Chapter 22 - Protect With Your Life

Holden assists me, and helps me sit on the couch. He makes sure I'm comfortable before he heads for the door. On pulling it open, I'm not surprised but still I'm a little dazed.

Standing in front of Holden, from where I peeked; was a bull man you could say. He was taller than Holden by far; if he were to enter the house he would need to lower his head.

He had the horns of a bull and obviously he was muscular. He had eyes which looked like they were sculpted from pure molten gold.

And a greyish green skin color, and a nose which looked like the snout of a pig or a cow... I didn't know.

I just stared and didn't say a word.

"Do I know you by any chance?" I ask softly.

"no, you don't." It says. Jack floats over to where I'm sitting, while Holden approaches us both after shutting the door.

"what brings you here then?" I ask, putting in as much harshness as I could.

"You are the only one that can save us all." he says, voice solemn.

Oh no, not with the riddles again. I've had enough of them.

I open my mouth to speak but Holden intervenes before I can.

"speak plainly would you? Its been a long day." He says coldly. I blink, and for a moment; I don't recognize him.

"My apologies young masters." He adds with a bow.

I nearly roll my eyes.

"I have been sent here by Lady Caitlin to take you to safety." Guest says, as he lifts his head.

"excuse me?" I ask, obviously sure I hadn't heard him right.

"I'm afraid, what's coming is greater than you can handle for now, my Lady." He adds, looking down at Jax to give him a hand.

"What's coming?" I hear Jax ask, and could have sworn Holden tensed at my side.

"Trigon." He says with such graveness, I feared he would wake the dead.

Holden gets up abruptly. "she hasn't completely healed yet." he opposes.

"Its for her safety." Jax defends, I just stare at both of them completely fazed by what was going on.

"If we move now, I don't know if she'd be able to take the stress..." Holden starts but Guest interrupts.

"Just let me fulfill my duty young master. And I assure you that I shall protect; with my life." He says with sincerity.

"No!" Holden explodes. Jax tries to calm him down.

"Just try to understand the situation, if we don't move... I fear she may die." Jax says, and Holden pauses with dread in his eyes. There's a very terrible silence in the room.

"I won't." I say, with certainty in my voice. Causing all attention to drift back to me. After all, I am the reason for this fight.

I get up with a groan.

"be careful." Holden says, rushing to my side. I grit my teeth in pain as I finally stand with his help.

"Thank you." I say to him.

"Who is Trigon?" I asked, turning my attention back to Guest.

Suddenly, the foundations of the house shakes and we all fall to the ground at the great impact. Except Guest.

Black smoke seeps in through the space beneath the door, and soon there's a massive explosion. Holden shields me from the impact, but I could tell he was pretty weak from it to.

I cough, as I wave my hand frantically to clear the smoke. It was draining me of the little energy I had left.

"You okay?" I hear Holden ask, as he coughs beside me.

"I think so," I say, grabbing his hand as the smoke clears. He lifts me to my feet.

"you?" I ask, looking up at him. "Yeah." Came his reply.

"oh no," I hear Jax mutter as he floats to my side.

I turn to the door, and for the terror I see I have no words.

"I am." A deep voice answers which echoes through the walls of the house.

"You're a monster." I rasp, staring at him.

"you sure girl?" He asks, "think again." he finishes. And in his grasp, at his mercy was a Lady whose facial features looked familiar.

"mother?" Holden says, with dread in his voice.

"mother..." I whisper, as Trigon's evil laughter fills the room.

"Let go of my mother!" Holden yells, not leaving my side.

Trigon turns to him with a deadly stare. "You challenging me boy?" Trigon asks.

"Not a challenge, a warning." He says, voice grave. And I could have sworn his countenance was slowly changing.

The lady shakes her head in tears. Her eyes were of the same color as Holden's and her hair brown like his. It was like as though she was restraining him from doing something he'd regret.

"protect with your life." she says, breath shaky. I could tell it was about me, though she didn't specify.

"enough of the talk woman! I think it's time I shut you up." He says, clutching her throat tighter as she turns blue and fades to dust. With pain and tears in her eyes.

"NO!!!" Holden yelled, arms outstretched towards her fading image.

Trigon's eyes light up with glee. A very deadly one.

"Now, who's next?" He asks, and everyone shrinks back. Including me.
