Chapter 16
Theo Pov:
After hearing what he just said we were stunned, especially after seeing the place. How in the world did three kids my age and younger survive in monster infested territory. And not only that but inside a dungeon, below freezing, for over a year.
"Everyone, get over here and rank up!," The knight commander called out wanting to do rollcall. He had wanted to make sure everyone was accounted for.
"What about us, sir?," I asked since we were not part of the formation at all. We had joined without permission and just tended to sit by the Commander. But this was a critical time so we needed to get into formation as well.
"You three line up right there, I'll start roll call now. Captains, count your men and give me the tally. I want to know if anyone is injured at all!," The Commander boomed.
"We have one person missing sir, it is Reynolds," A captain called.
However before anyone could call out Reynolds called out saying. "Sorry, I had to go get my sword!," He had run after them and had barely kept up.
"Understood, then everyone is accounted for. Set up camp and I'll go talk to the kids," The commander said, but before he could go Henry stopped him.
"Sir, you might want to be careful, you saw what they did. Also from what we have heard so far, I would assume that they were from Jones. Ask if their last name is, Boshu, if so then they are who I think they are, if not, forget it," Henry said to which the captain looked shocked, but then he quickly fixed his expression. Just what did Henry mean.
As the Commander walked off to where the kids were I Question Henry. "What did you mean, by them being from Jones and their last name being Boshu?," He looks at me shocked for some reason before waving for me to follow. He heads over to the side of the cave with Hannah and sits down.
"I am surprised you didn't know about it, but your father had us monitoring Jones every now and then. The family name Boshu popped up as being enemies to the Kingdom of Jones. They were hunted down, but most just wanted the parents gone. The reason being is their children were geniuses. The going knowledge is that the parents took the kids as hostages. But if they were ever rescued, why did they not return to Jones. Maybe it was because the state had set it up since they did not like the family. But another reason why we were able to find it so well, was because their father was an Earl. He did do crimes against their state, but that was for others safety. He made a deal with us to supply us with information, in exchange for rescuing his children when needed. I think those kids, are the children of that Earl. Of course I wasn't supposed to know about this, but I tend to listen in on my fathers meetings," Henry tells me and his sister who seems to not have known as well.
But if he were a spy for us, then why did I not know about it, I mean I am the next king. But before I could think any more the Commander came over to us. It seemed that he had returned from talking to the kids. "What's the verdict?," I ask him.
"I confirmed that their last name was Boshu, that means that their nobles. Now that makes this a bit difficult due to their status of a nation we are not that friendly with. I said that the reward for rescuing us would be decided by you, Theo. An technically we have to help them due to that deal with their parents. I just cannot believe that, they, are the children of that man," The commander say as he starts to grumble as he goes to the other knights.
"Well, I better go talk to them and decide how we can thank them. In all honesty, I want them to come back with us, but I cannot make nobles of a neighboring nation do that. Even if they trespassed or not as this is unclaimed territory, I really don't know what to do," I complain to my friends who think it over.
"How about this, you get them the Basilisk Antivenom for saving us. And you bring them back with us since the king, or margrave, need to thank them for saving us," Hannah says giving me the best possible solution in this situation. We need to being them back as it is not safe for kids here. We need to reward them for saving our lives, more than once. An we need to know whether they are friend or foe, and what better than a king and margrave to figure it out.
"Ok, then I will go talk to them," I tell them as I start walking over to where the kids are in a separate room. As I do Reynolds comes over and joins me, seemingly not wanting me to go alone. We continue into the room to see, Jake resting on the bed, Emma beside him crying, and Hunter reading. As we come in Hunter looks up and walks over.
"Follow me," He says leading us to a different room, most likely to let Emma be. Once we get in he gestures us to sit next to a campfire. Looking around, that is all that is in here and it has a vent to the top of the glacier. We sit and he sits opposite of us as he starts the campfire while asking. "What do you want to talk about," In a depressed tone.
"Compensation, or an agreement for saving me," I start and state the case.
