Chapter 2 - Two Elephants

Hours passed swiftly and quickly even the said time for his break passed and it was 1, the supposed time for his meeting with the CEO of AQI- Sephra.

Sitting on his high chair with both of his hands folded in front of him in a relaxed manner, he waited watching the seconds on the clock on his table tick by.

Five minutes passed and he wasn't at all surprised to see no signs or traces of Sephra anywhere knowing that even though he was the one in need, showing respect by being punctual was not something he knew to do.

It was I:10 when he finally heard a knock on his door, watching Gaen step in as he opened the door for someone coming right behind him.

He barely glanced at Devin before he hurriedly moved back and closed the door behind him the moment he left the office.

The last thing Gaen wanted to do was be in the room when the two lions began to fight.

A older man in a suit that looked just as expensive as the one Devin wore, strode into the room and walked closer to where Devin sat in a way that might make anyone assume that the office actually belonged to him.

The hair on his head was slightly grey but it didn't at all reduce the good old looks that seemed to be permanently engraved to his face from his younger days.

"Your office looks the same as ever…" Sephra commented just before he got to Devin's table even as Devin continued to sit on his seat without showing any intention of getting up to greet him like cutsey demanded.

If he couldn't be bothered to come on time then I sure as hell can't be bothered to get off my seat, Devin thought to himself, with his gaze fixed on Sephra

"Who knows…If you came ten minutes earlier and on time you might see it in a completely different light," Devin replied, as he comfortably leaned back in his seat with a light smile on his face that in no way reached his eyes.

Sephra also had the same exact accommodating smile on his face as he settled right into the chair opposite Devin without seeing a need to ask for permission.

"To what do I owe the pleasure of your company?" Devin innocently asked, beyond delighted to see a flash of anger appear on Sephra's cool and calm face.

"Devin! Are we really going to dance around the problem?" He asked, his face back to its formerly calm state as he even went as far as to pull a bigger smile out of his ass.

"What problem?" Devin asked with a slightly confused expression on his face, one that grated even more on Sephra's already frayed nerves.

Gritting his teeth and clasping his hands tightly in his laps to keep his composure, Sephra dived right into it.

"The drug. The drug Devin. It's going to take a more than we budgets and we're already losing investors. Apart from that if the shares of the company fall any lower than it has already it might actually crash and go bankrupt," Sephra explained in full only for his eyes to suddenly turn bloodshot like that of a crazy person when he heard Devin's response to his many words.

"I know. But how exactly is that my problem?" Devin asked, restraining the urge to chuckle knowing that, it was bound to send Sephra right off the tethering edge.

"IT'S YOUR PROBLEM! You have shares in my company, the same way I have shares in yours. Are you really going to let such a great company die just like that. This drug could be what would change the lives of millions. It might even be the solution to being mortal…" Sephra fired back as Devin leaned further back into his chair, placing his left elbow on the arm of the chair and resting his head on it in a completely relaxed fashion, as he stared at Sephra, as his desperation began to gradually seep out.

"If this drug makes it through phase one of testing, you'll also gain the glory for it, since it's something that you first…"

"Let's assume for a second that I'm on your side…" Devin suddenly interrupted stunning Sephra a little since he wasn't someone that was used to being interrupted.

"What's the current status of the drug as we speak? I need the truth…" Devin asked in a deathly serious tone even as he chuckled in his heart wanting to hear nothing more than the details of the misfortune of his enemy.

Devin even went as far as to lean forward, placing his hands in front of him on the table, with a profound expression on his face one that showed that his entire attention was completely fixed on Sephra.

A few seconds of silence passed as neither side opened their mouth to speak until Sephra finally gave in and also leaned forward in a conspiratory tone and began to speak in a slightly lowered tone.

"Honestly, the drug already has the ability to take control of a human body…"

"While they're dead?" Devin asked in a low whisper with a slightly shocked but still largely serious expression on his face.

"No…" Sephra sighed, his eyes drooping slightly in a way that showed his disappointment in it even as he continued speaking.

"...While they're alive,"

"Aaah…" Devin sighed in a heavy tone, moving his head slightly to look down at his table with both hands folded under his chin doing his best to hide the mirth in his eyes, going as far as to lick his lips once before fully raising his head back up.

Devin fixed his gaze firmly on Sephra and went ahead to ask him in a question in the most serious tone he could muster at that exact moment.

"Hmmm…A drug that controls people while they're alive. That is definitely what most people would call a parasite or better still a virus…"

Sephra was still nodding his head listening to Devin speak with a sad expression on his face which was why it took a while for Devin's next words to register in his mind.

"...For the good of the nation and the world, I believe the faster your company runs down and goes bankrupt the better the world would be. The horror of such a useless drug company going ahead to create such a monstrosity when they should be saving lives…"

"Yes, ye…" but he had only began to agree with his mind slightly distracted when he instantly flew into a rage when Devin's words fully registered in his mind.

"YOU DARE!" His voice thundering through the entire office as Devin even went as far as to raise his hands to block his eyes with an expression of full on mockery on his face, as he dropped them and leaned forward with a big smile on his face.

"I can't wait for the DSC to come knocking on your doors for a glance at your virus turned drug. I imagine they'll be in for a surprise and guess who'll be here helping them with whatever help them need…yeah you got it. ME!" Devin announces getting on his feet as he said so.

He walked out from behind the table until he came to stand right in front of Sephra who had swollen full with anger and was on the edge of bursting.

"Your time is over Old man. Cash in your losses now and I'm sure you'll still have enough money to enjoy the rest of your presumably short mortal life," Devin said to him with both hands placed calmly in his pant pocket as he looked at Sephra with a travel of pity in his eyes.

"It's foolishness to trace immortality this soon but who knows, maybe in 50 years when I'm around your age, I'll succeed where you have failed," Devin said and he would have said more if not that Sephra suddenly stopped glaring at him and simply turned around and walked out of office.

"I expected a little bit more shooting and drama though…"Devin sighed in slight dissatisfaction only to hear the door of his office slam shut in an outrageously loud manner, one he was sure would have scared his extremely shy secretary half to death.

"Not bad…Not bad…" Devin smirked in extreme delight as he rested his body on his table, staring at his door for a few seconds while taking in his newfound victory.

"I hope the rest of my days are as interesting as this one," He sighed before returning back to his seat, knowing that he was bound to have more work in stock for him seeing as how he would continue to be the number one pharmaceutical company with no close competitors in sight.
