To Devin, there was obviously nothing on him, nothing apart from the craziness that suddenly seemed to descend on him.
"If you want to die so badly….don't you dare drag me alone .."
As quickly as he could, he tossed his tab in his hand
to the side and jerked forward to grab the steering wheel and prevent the car from spiraling right off the road and into the thick forests that were on either side of the road.
"What the hell's wrong with you….at least take your goddamn leg off the accelerator," Devin yelled in a loud voice swearing from that meant one to personally hire each and every one of his drivers from then one, right after he fired this one the moment he confirmed that it was safe.
"Get it off me…get it off me. I can feel it digging into my brain…" Devin heard Roland scream, and a single look at his driver, as he tried to control the steering wheel, was enough to tell him that Roland was a lost cause.
His eyeballs were a mess as they dangled from their sockets and Devin was convinced that with the way he kept on slamming his head against the glass, he had seconds left to leave.
For Devin, his only saving grace was the fact that the road was still practically empty, which meant that he could still hold on for a while .
"Get your feet off the accelerator…" he hollered again but even as he did, a certain coldness settled in his mind as he calculated the life of an almost dead man against his own.
A split second later, the decision was made when he spotted a truck heading towards them on the other lane.
With the irrational behavior of the crazy person who still had his legs on the accelerator, Devin couldn't risk it.
As quickly as he could, he moved to unlock the driver's door prepared to push his still-twitching driver out of the car when he suddenly heard him speak.
"{AB has been nourished and upgraded…one more required to attain completion}"
"You can continue muttering in the land of the dead…it's a pity that I won't be able to hear more of it…" Devin muttered to himself, completely ignoring every word, as he snapped open the door and undid the belt on his driver.
There was no sadness or guilt on his face.
His worth in the world compared to that of his driver was like that of the sun to the life of a single worthless ant.
But just as he pushed the driver's body sideways with all his strength while doing his best to maintain control of the car, he suddenly felt something drill itself in through his left ear and into his head.
"Wha…WHAT…"
"{Allow me to take control of your body…}"
The moment he heard these words he instantly panicked, picturing his future being like that of his driver who suddenly turned into a crazy person or worse, having something take complete control of his supreme body.
For a second…even as a loud buzz drilled into his head, he was shocked to discover that his control over the car was perfect and wasn't at all hindered, even as he slowly realized that his mind was being eroded by something.
It almost felt like everything that made him who he was, was slipping away.
At that moment, his focus on that singular moment which could be his last became even more intricate than before.
The driver whose body was slipping out of the car, the steering wheel which was the only thing he found he could control, and the truck which was just about to peacefully pass beside the car.
Devin cherished his life but more than that he suddenly discovered that he only cherished it because it was his.
In the blink of an eye, he swerved the car, hard and fast enough to ensure that even if he were to swerve it back in the next second it would be impossible for him to evade the huge truck heading his way.
"I can't even smile like I want to…" Devin thought as he felt himself lose control of the steering wheel feeling it swerve back the next second but not fast enough to avoid
collusion with the truck he crashed into.
The pain was extricating but as he felt his body being smashed and torn apart.
"Now...You can have whatever's left," Devin chuckled…spluttering blood everywhere even as he felt the control he had over his body back to the way it was, even though he could no longer move it, knowing that almost every part of it had already been squashed.
These were Devin's last thoughts, as the thick smell of blood pervaded the air around him and he struggled to keep his eyes open, knowing that the moment he closed them, would be the last moment alive.
Even with his eyes open, he couldn't make out anything but the pain that coursed through his body right before, he was shocked to see a strange panel suddenly appear right in front of him.

By then Devin's eyes had long closed, and his world and senses completely darkened.
