Chapter 13 - Starving is Foolishness

"Wha…"

"He…he…" Devin chuckled shaking his head in amusement as he went ahead to fully lean against the walls of the shed, glad to feel how solid the wall of the shed was, unlike the door.

{You heard me. For you to return home, you'll have to become King of this world}

"Well…I'm waiting,"

{For what} the voice instantly asked with a trace of confusion in it's tone.

"For whatever powers you're are about to bestow on me…," Devin responded with a slightly hopeful expression on his face.

For devin, he was sure that at that moment he would take whatever ability he was given without complaint.No matter how useless it was, Devin felt he was smart enough to make it work.

{Powers? There are no powers for you. How…how else would you be able to show that you deserve to be taken to your former world}

"Bullshit…" Devin yelled, going as far as to get on his feet the next moment, grabbing hold of the wall, when a dizzy spell fell on him, one that almost had him stumbling down to the ground.

"Then what powers do you have??" he went ahead to ask, with both his eyes closed even as he slowly lowered himself back to the ground, lying flat on his back this time around.

{Powers? None. I'm just here to…}

"Torment me and be utterly useless"

{I'm not useless I'm…}

"Also stupid?"

{Hey! What the hell is…}

"If you aren't then tell me of what use are you to me?" Devin asked meaning every word as he felt the beginning of a subtle headache streaming into his head.

{I Can…I can give you advice on the best paths to go}

A few moments of silence followed without Devin opening his mouth to say a word, when the voice in his head decided to continue, unable to hold back any longer.

{I'm here simply as a guide analyzing everyone of your actions to ensure that it leads you to the impossible go…I mean the obvious goal}

Even after the voice had spoken, Devin said nothing and simply laid on the ground with his eyes closed for a full minute before he finally opened his mouth and groaned.

"Well…I hope your advice can feed me. It not, you'll have to find yourself another head to live in,"

He managed to say out loud, even as he felt the constant pounding in his head, get louder and so much worse than before, while he did his best to ignore the hunger pangs in his belly.

But a few minutes had barely gone by in silence when a certain rich aroma pervaded the shed on every sides, teasing him in such a way that he already sat up even before h became fully aware of it.

{Food…thats definitely food. Hurry and go and eat. Dying is absolutely out of it}

"You can smell what I smell so does that mean if I feel pain you'll feel pain too?" Devin suddenly asked, temporarily ignoring the smell around him as thoughts of controlling the so called system in his head filled his mind instead.

{Food! Remember! If you die, I'll simply be assigned to another so it's up to you} the voice replied but if it had a heart, it would definitely be racing in fear.

Without having to be informed the second time, Devin got to his feet and made his way out of his shed, instantly heading in the direction of where the sweet aroma came from which just happened to be the main house.

With long strides, ignoring the fact that his body felt like it was about to break at any moment, Devin strolled right in, shocked to lay eyes on a medium sized table surrounded with five people who had various meat and vegetable dishes in front of them.

He said not a single word as yells and screams were directed at him as he simply made his way to the table grabbing the first plate he could reach along with a spoon.

In seconds, he worked it down, no longer caring about his image as long as he could satisfy his food starved body.

"Mother!" One of the the younger of the two young men at the table yelled.

"He's insane…" The older of the young men commented with a look of disgust on his face.

"GET HIM AWAY FROM ME!" A young lady screamed at the top of her lungs scrambling to Hoatin's side like a wounded puppy the moment Devin raced to her side of the table and began to wolf down whatever he could.

Devin had never eaten so quickly in his life as he wolfed down whatever he could in the little time he knew he had, especially when the screams surrounding him became much louder than before.

"Jin…JIN! What the hell do you think you're doing?" he heard the thundering voice of his uncle, one he sharply ignored ad he simply moved to one of the meat dishes on the table, doing his best to tear into it and savor every inch of it.

Devin continued to eat and only moved away when he suddenly felt a dark shadow hover above his head, only managing to barely avoid the iron ladle that attacked his head.

"Heu…Thaf wough hurtrr." he managed to get out even as he continued to hurriedly swallow the contents in his mouth, replacing it the moment it was gone.

Devin was completely away of his uncouth his actions were but having realizes that the family he lived with we're twice as bad with his uncle's wife being intent on starving him, Devjn saw no reason not to act just as bad.

Moreover, the former owner of the body probably worked his ass off, and still got nothing so he might as well snatch back all the things he earned.

Moreover, seeing the three children who obviously belonged to his uncle and his wife, looking all healthy and well fed with no traces of extreme poverty on their bodies compared to him, somehow managed to piss him off even more.

He made sure to swallow before opening his mouth to speak again.

"I have no intentions of allowing myself to continue to starve while y'all continue to get fatter…I'm talking to you," he said making sure to look at the young woman seated at the table, enjoy the shocked and aghast expression that appeared on her face when she heard his words.

"GET OUT THIS SECOND!" Waina, his uncle's wife screamed the next second, trembling from head to toe in a way that showed that she was about to completely explode out of anger.

Devin wasn'y at all scared of her but that didn't mean that he also wanted to stay and test the already tested boundaries of the hollaring mad woman.

The next second, he bent down over the table and managed to pack as many bowls full of food as he could carry without it falling off. He also made sure to prioritize the ones with meat.

The moment his hands were packed full, he walked out of the house, not even bordering to properly close the door behind him as he made his way back to his lonely shed.

{Do you really think that's wise. You live in their house}

"Allowing myself to starve without doing anything about it, would be really foolish," Devin responded, walking quickly and entering his shed.

In a split moment, he sat on the ground placing the plates in front of him and began to devore it one after the other, with the full knowledge that the small moment of peace he had to eat was too about to end.
