Chapter 10 - A Guilt Trip

"Urgh…" he groaned in pain, as he laid on the floor only to open his mouth and begin to spill out explicit sounds of annoyance and rage.

"You're definitely going to Jail for harassment. I'll make sure you spend your life there. How could…someone call the police! What kind of joke is this…!" He yelled while looking around at the same time, hoping that someone would explain how someone would dare lay their hands on him.

{I would keep calm if I was you…it would be really bad for the both of us if you suddenly died. At least take note of the current state of your body}

The sudden shock of suddenly hearing a strange condescending voice in his head jarred him and made him stop screaming his head off as he indeed tried to take note of the current state of the body he was in.

Meanwhile, Master Wang still seemed as annoyed as ever at Devin's yelling and swearing.

"He's indeed crazy. I'll have to beat some sense into him and maybe allow him to spend a few days in…"

Before he was done, the man that seemed intent on pleading on Devin's behalf fell on his knees, bowing low until his head touched the floor, completely stunning Devin even more than he already was after looking down at the callused hands that he could swear wasn't his.

"He's but a stupid child. I beg for leniency. This whole incident his his fault and we have delayed you enough…" He begged and finally, this act seemed to soothe the ego of the plump Mr Wang as he nodded his head, and called back his guards whom he had almost ordered to give Devin a second beating.

In a few seconds, he had jumped back into his carriage and he was gone, while Devin struggled to get up amidst pitiful stares of the crowd that had gathered around, and we were slowly leaving while murmuring aloud to themselves.

"Fool! How stupid can he be?"

"Anymore and he would have died or worse have to spend the rest of his life in jail…"

"Who does he think he is? He can barely make enough to eat and had to be helped by Han, who's also doing his best to take care of his family"

"What the hell's happening?" Devin thought to himself with his face wretched in confusion as he looked around at the dirty clothes he wore and those of the people around him.

It was obvious that he was currently in a period time, unlike the technological world he lived which made it difficult to figure out if someone was playing a joke on him or if he had indeed been sent back to a different time.

"The last thing I remember is being taken over…moreover, what was that voice in my head…" Devin wondered to himself as he stood on the road completely ignorant of whatever else was going on around him.

"Are you just going to stand there, Ah Jin? We have work to do…" Devin suddenly heard a voice say from beside him, looking over to see that it was the man who had pleaded on his behalf.

Just as Devin was about to open his mouth to ask who he was and where they were, the man interrupted and continued speaking.

"Let's go…the farm is still far. Moreover, I still need to bandage the wound on your head. I would have taken you to the healer but it doesn't seem that serious," said the man right before he continued walking away without waiting for him any longer, with a slightly angry tone in his voice.

"You should have known better than to open your mouth and speak to him like that no matter how much it hurts. He's a noble and we're commoners. If he executes you on the street, absolutely nothing would happen," he continued to say as he walked and Devin hurriedly followed him, seeing as how no one else but him seemed to care about him.

At first, seeing that he had no idea what was going on Devin's first instinct was to try and figure it out little by little, but the more he heard the man talk about nobles and commoners, the more his heart raced in his chest as it quickly became clear as he looked around and breathed in the poverty stricken air that filled the environment around him.

'This is a completely different world'

Simply walking in the coarse clothes he wore was almost unbearable.

"Would you believe me if I told you that I completely do not know who you are, who I am, and where this is…" he asked, pausing a little to see the tall man walking in front of him freeze and look at him with a suspicious expression on his face, one that showed that he thought Devin was joking.

"I'm serious. The moment I got off from the ground after being hit, I don't even recall how the accident happened.." Devin confessed knowing that the accident was the perfect excuse for his present situation he was in, and the quicker he realized what was going on the better.

The moment he was done speaking, he watched the man who had previously out some space between them, suddenly walk back closer to him until they were barely inches away from each other, which was when he noticed how much shorter he was, compared to how he was supposed to be.

"Ah, Jin…are you trying to say you don't know who I am?" The man asked in a slightly colder tone than Devin would have liked but all he could do was gently shake his head with a sincere expression in his face to convey how serious he was.

The man nodded in response with a beautiful smile on his face.

"Well, if it's only your memories you have problems with, I can fill in the gaps,"

There was no single thread of concern on his face when he said it, and from the impatient way his feet kept on tapping on the ground, Devin could tell that he also couldn't wait to continue moving.

"You're my nephew and I'm your cousin. Your parents are dead and you work for me, in exchange I feed you, cloth you, and give you a roof over your head,"

He continued speaking with a grumpy expression on his face. Devin simply watched and listened, paying attention to every one of his actions even more than his words.

"So you can imagine how pissed I was when you couldn't move fast enough to get out of the carriage's way. I understand that you helped me a little but you're a young man. You could have moved faster,"

'So…the previous owner of this body actually did such a dumb thing,'

"Not to mention you going as far as to banter with such a man. Do you know how rich he is? He could order for your death and that of our family in seconds,"

The tone of his voice increased with each word that came out of his mouth even as Devin simply continued to watch with a mostly blank expression on his face, not bordering to do much else.

'Not included in the family…"

His mind wandered slightly even as he took note of things he needed to do.

"Look…it's a good thing that it's over. You'll continue to follow me to the farm as usual and nothing will change,"

"I don't get paid at all? What if I need money for things?"

Devin finally opened his mouth to ask with a slightly confused look on his face, unable to understand how someone could simply be okay with such basic things.

But he had merely asked when he watched his uncle erupt in anger for the first time since he began speaking with him.

"How dare you! Do you know for how many years I had to take care of you without you giving me anything in return? Now, it's your turn to pay back and you're asking for money. How much work do you even do for me!"

At that point, the people around were starting to part more attention to him, but still, it was obvious that he didn't care.

"After all I've done for you…did I ask for anything in return? I treat you like one of my own sons. Do they ask me for salary?"

His voice cracked a little, as it seemed like he was on the verge of tears.

'Not bad…I could have done better but still, his skills are not bad. It's easy to see how the former owner probably worked his ass out for free but I'm sorry to disappoint you dear uncle but I'm different,"

"I'm sorry uncle…please. Can we just go home?"

Devin pleaded in a low voice, bowing his head a little in the way he envisioned the former owner called 'Jin' probably did it.

"Hun…" he huffed, turning around the next instant. He began walking away at an extremely fast pace, and Devin struggled to keep up.

Looking down at himself, as he followed quickly behind, he noticed how bony his limbs were and even then he could feel a dull pain in his stomach, one that was obviously because he was a few steps away from starvation.

Still, Devin followed. He felt extremely weak and knew next to nothing about the town he was walking through, not to mention the people.

Even he had to admit that he acted rashly a few minutes ago, and his state could have ended up much worse than it currently was. Something that would have been terrible, seeing how there were no signs of even a well-tarred road, expecting to see an hospital would be a pipe dream.

Dying from festering wounds all over again wouldn't be such a good way to go. Moreover, he had no intention of dying again.

'I just have to figure out how to get as much as I can from this dear uncle of mine,
