-The dark blue sky shining down the moonlight that night was beautiful. The cold breeze and the sound of the traffic even made me forget for a moment why I was up there. And it was at that exact moment when I decided to end it… I was one step away, from finishing everything, from… escaping, but she was there
-Kai! Stop it!
I gasped and snapped back to reality and for a brief moment I even thought she saved my life
-You can't give up just yet! Come on hold on for a little longer, im sure things are going to be alright! This shouldn't be how everything should end!
But it had to. I was already up there, there was no turning back now. But then.
-*Hugs* If you really want to finish everything here and now then do it, but just so you know I'm willing to put my life on the line if it means saving yours.
I didn't understood her then, we were only class mates, we weren't even close friends, I even thought for a second there that she was only bluffing and that she was only trying to make me get off the edge of the building but then… she just got closer and closer to the point she was fully behind me.
I could feel the weight of her words sinking into my heart. Her genuine concern and willingness to sacrifice herself for me struck a chord deep within me. The tears streaming down her face mirrored the turmoil I felt inside. In that moment, I realized that there was someone who cared, someone who saw beyond the surface, someone who believed in me.
As her arms wrapped around me in a tight embrace, a surge of conflicting emotions rushed through my veins. The grip of despair that had consumed me moments ago began to loosen, gradually replaced by a flicker of hope. It was as if her presence alone had ignited a glimmer of light in the darkest corners of my soul.
She spoke softly, her voice trembling with raw emotion.
- I may not fully understand what you're going through, but I can't stand by and watch you suffer alone. You don't have to face this darkness on your own. We can find a way out together, step by step, no matter how long it takes.
Her words resonated within me, piercing through the haze of my despair.
I took a deep breath, my trembling hands gradually steadying. The feeling of wanting to jump off dissipated immediately.
I decided I couldn't forgive myself if I made her cry again so I stepped off the edge and turn back to her. As we hugged we both started crying.
*Sobbing* come on now, we can sleep at my place tonight it's closer from here
I said fine and we were off.
While walking I wondered, what would have happened if it weren't for her? There was only one answer to that question and I knew it, and she knew it too.
Walking down the street I realise how everything looks sweeter, as if life itself was looking less gray the longer we walked, I've never seen such colours before on these streets, it was a wonderful experience…
However, our respite was short-lived. In the midst of our shared silence, a chilling sensation crept up my spine, causing me to tense. Without warning, a stranger appeared before us, their eyes filled with malice. In their hand gleamed a glinting knife, poised for harm.
Instinctively, I pushed her behind me, shielding her from the impending danger. Time seemed to slow as I braced myself for what was to come. I couldn't let anything happen to her, not after she had saved me from the brink of despair.
The stranger lunged forward, their intentions clear. With a surge of adrenaline, I moved to intercept the attack, my actions driven by a newfound determination to protect the one who had shown me the meaning of hope.
The knife cut through the air, but in that split second, I managed to redirect the trajectory of the blade away from her vulnerable form. Pain seared through my body as the knife found its mark, piercing deep into my lung. I gasped, feeling the warmth of my own blood staining my clothes as I felt the blade pierce through, pain coursed through my body, but I managed to stay on my feet. The stranger, satisfied with his accomplishment, turned and disappeared into the night, leaving us alone in the quiet street.
I looked at her, my vision growing hazy, and mustered a weak smile. "Don't... worry," I managed to whisper, my voice barely audible. "I will be alright."
She knelt beside me, her hands trembling as she tried to stem the flow of blood. Tears streamed down her face as she realized the gravity of the situation. "No, no, this can't be happening," she cried, her voice filled with desperation.
I reached out and gently brushed away her tears, mustering what little strength I had left.
"I guess it just had to happen tonight huh?" I said with a smile on my face, "Hey now, promise me you will try your best to live your best life, for me?" I did however only said that just so that she doesn't go and do something stupid after seeing a useless man like myself die saving her
-No please! Kai don't leave me please this cannot be happening, not like this! Not now!
"Im… sorry… " I say with my last breath
*Crying* "No, no, no, NO! Please! Kai! Wake up! Kai!!!
