I look behind us through the two-way screen to see three SUVs tailing directly behind us, one in the middle and two on either sides, all spread out on the vast road as they advanced at a steady pace, not even bothering to conceal their presence.
"Who are they?" I ask in bewilderment, who had the courage to target Zach Lee in broad daylight!
"No one you should be concerned about, you're safe, that's all that matters" he answers dismissively and although I want to argue, I choose not to. But I really can't sit still with the three cars behind us, with the level of confidence they're exuding, they probably have something planned out for us along this route.
And I was right, up ahead, two other cars were parked across the road, effectively blocking it. Zach sighed and pulled open the doors handle, stepping out of the car.
The windows were raised so I couldn't hear whatever it is they were saying, no guns were raised as I had imagined earlier and Zach soon returned to the car.
Our route changed, the cars still tailing behind us and the other two remained in front of us, directing us and Zach just stared on quietly.
I want to ask questions, but his face at the moment is so cold and distant. My anxiety flaring up the farther we get from the city. Soon we were covered by trees from left to right, the path continued and we stopped in front of a huge gate.
The security stepped out of their office post, nodded at one of the people in the first car and opened the gate.
The mansion behind the gate was breathtaking, to think that someone would build something as beautiful as this in the middle of nowhere, but I like the idea, surrounded by trees and away from the hustle and bustle of the city, it reminded me of my grandfather. He always hated the city and so he keeps randomly buying beach houses in different islands and cabins in the forests.
"Mr Lee, Mojo awaits your arrival" a man in a butler's uniform says to Zach as we stepped out of the car. He shows us into the house and I am left speechless by the decor. Everything screamed wealth and elegance. We were guided towards the staircase which led to a long hallway that was supposedly on the first floor.
"You're awfully quiet, I bet you have a million questions floating around in your pretty little brain" Zach says beside me, a hint of amusement in his tone.
"That's not a way to speak to you wife Zachary" I almost laughed at the way his face darkened when I called his full name.
"I will speak as I wish Mrs Lee" he replies and I felt my heart skip a beat. That name sounded so foreign but I know deep down that I love my new title.
I'm trying really hard not to fall for my newly married husband, but it's getting really hard as I'm already half way there.
The butler knocked on the oak door and a faint 'come in' floated from behind the door.
The doors were pushed open and I immediately sighted a little girl seated on an old man's lap. She was painting something that looked like a buritto on his face, it was such a beautiful scene and I almost felt bad that we were going to break up their little moment, but then the old man started to look awfully familiar....
"Grandpa?"
"Little Z?"
