In the moment of solace she'd found hidden in a dusty corner of the mansion overlooked by the maids and the usual inhabitants Ari had fallen fast asleep. Curled up against the door with the comfort of Rooster who snored at her feet. Her dreams had been filled with ghosts and memories that seemed a lifetime ago. All of it bittersweet in its remembrance only when reality dragged her back. It was with a booming clap of thunder that rattled the windows–threatening to burst the glass from the panes–that she awoke.
Hazel eyes wide in the darkness from the sudden start. Rain pelted loudly against the old house while wind whistled a shrieking tune through little gaps. Lightning flashed in spurts temporarily lighting everything around her. Ari rubbed at her sore neck before petting her fur baby. "I haven't seen a storm this bad in awhile."
