Hospital, 1 week later..,
"Are you sure you want to be discharged now? You're still injured!"
Tatang Ramon asked carefully, even though the child's internal injuries from the incident was mostly already healed and scratches and only some light wounds left on her body.
He still insisted worriedly, persuading the girl in front of him to stay for a few days.
"No need. Anne is still waiting for me", Yani briefly replied.
Hearing the mention of the name 'Anne', his eyes full of wrinkles visibly flashed slightly before going back to normal.
He looked at the child's blank expression carefully, hoping to find something but was disappointed to find nothing, just numbness. His gaze looking at her was complicated.
In the end, he sighed internally and gave up. His gaze replaced with kindness and pity for the child.
"Alright, alright, I won't insist. But couldn't you at least consider the offer. It would surely benefit you long-term."
Yani who was observing the old man upfront instantly noticed his change.
Although this old doctor truly cared for her, she knew that he was hiding a lot of things from her. Not just him, almost everyone she knew was hiding from her, more like they were afraid of her or something.
And about 'Anne', she noticed this long ago but once she mentioned her friend's name, their tone would change and somehow they would become wary.
Ignoring Tatang Ramon's pitying gaze, Yani replied, assuring the worried old man.
"I will consider it. Stop worrying."
Feeling assured, Tatang Ramon stopped speaking knowing that the child would be safe and choosing to help Yani pack her things.
Yani heaved a sigh of relief seeing that the old man finally stopped nagging in her ears and focused on packing her stuff.
Tatang Ramon accompanied her to the entrance of the hospital, bidding farewell.
Still worried, and for the umpteenth time, the old man warned,
"Be careful!"
He waited until Yani's back figure was out of his sights and sighed ruefully as he remembered something about the child's past.
Just thinking about it made him sweat coldly in fear and trepidation. It was truly frightening.
He sometimes even wondered if Yani was really his old friend's child.
Tatang Ramon shook his head, throwing away his thoughts to the back of his mind and forcing his old brain to forget the things about her or he might as well just suffer.
_._._._
After bidding goodbye to Tatang Ramon, Yani didn't go home directly.
Yani walk along the side of the road, sorting out the bits and pieces of blurry memories in her head that suddenly appeared on her mind at the moment of the car incident.
Yani was puzzled by this as she could be sure this was not her own memory. Even though most of it were blurry, she was certain.
She knew herself well. Well enough to say that her life was full of obsessions.
The version of her in that blurry memory was determined and strong, stronger than her in any aspects and abilities.
Able to let go of any obsessions and can make her weaknesses her strength. Far from someone like her, full of denials.
Lowering her head, she smiled despondently.
Not knowing how long it took, she arrived.
A graceful and petite figure could be seen walking out of a dark corner of the alley with a backpack on her back.
She looked at the old-looking traditional house that looked abandoned across the street just in front. Longing and sadness evident in her usually cold eyes.
Stopping at the gate of the house. Yani reached out her hand and was about to push open the rusty gates when she suddenly paused.
Her hands stopped. Her eyes full of complicated emotions that she herself couldn't explain.
Taking a deep breath, Yani reached for the keys on her backpack, unlocking the gate's doors.
Yani smiled sweetly as the doors opened, making the usually blank and numb expression on her face instantly brighten up like the sun.
However, one could see in her eyes that she was not really happy like what her expression shows on the surface.
It was instead full of sadness and loneliness that could possibly drawn people in despair.
"Mama..!"
A slightly plumped woman wearing apron who just came out of the kitchen greeted Yani as she went inside the house.
When the plump woman saw Yani, she immediately bombarded her with questions. Worriedly making sure Yani was alright while anxiously asking.
"Yani, why are you only here now so late at night!?"
"We were worried about you!--"
Before she could continue talking, out of nowhere, she felt a sudden hug, temporarily making her stop due to the sudden development.
She looked at her only daughter warmly in surprise, grateful that she saw her safe and sound in her arms.
".. Mama...!", Yani murmured softly in her mother's arms, hugging her tightly.
Wanita let her be, thinking it was rare for her daughter to act so sweetly in front of her.
While Yani was engrossed in her mother's embrace, a booming sound so loud interrupted them.
"Where's Yani? Did you finally remember you had a home, ehhh?!"
Glancing at the back of her mother, Yani saw her father coming out of the room beside the kitchen, looking so intimidating.
When he saw Yani, he immediately interrogated her like a suspect in prison, inspecting her so seriously with his eyes like she had done something evil worthy of investigation.
