Chapter 2 - A new life

2019, Fort Bragg, home of the airborne and special operation Force.

A man that went as first lieutenant William Kensy sat on a green cotton chair along with several other people,

The man that went as William had no extraordinary facial features that could make a woman cry out handsome, but he wasn't the average joe. His rather good-looking face was roughed up from the many battles he took part in. His dark eyes were void of any emotion. Or was it simply his lack of sleep that gave him a gloomy atmosphere? It was hard to tell.

But considering that he barely got any rest from his previous operation, it was clear that he was just tired.

Though William still tried his best to be on his toes. He began pressing down on any visible folds on his green camo uniform.

Right now, he was waiting to get called in to be judged for the actions he took in his recent operation.

"Army, First Lieutenant William Kensy." A feminine voice was projected through the intercom.

William stood up, took a deep breath, and let it all out. He couldn't help but be a bit nervous.

He grabbed ahold of the doorknob and walked inside a room.

Inside there were five people, four men and one woman. They were all dressed the same as William, but their shoulders' stripes indicated the ranks' differences. The man in the middle was William's CO(Commanding officer), shown by his stripes.

William gently closed the door behind him and walked toward the middle of the room, in front of the desk the five were seated at.

His boots gently stomped on the ground in a dead silent room, with the only other sound being paper flipped.

Once William was in front of the CO, he raised his right hand to salute the CO.

"At ease, first lieutenant." Said the CO in, which Willam finally relaxed.

"Thank you, sir."

"19:52 was the time when you were given the order to withdraw your troops along with the civilians, yet you refused to obey any orders causing the death of two U.S soldiers and three civilians."

"With all due respect, sir, but my troops were in no condition to withdraw, not with the heavy suppressive fire by the Taliban." William tried to give a reason, but the CO did not want to hear anything.

"That is not all, first lieutenant." The CO continued on with his statement. "One of your soldiers was found high on the scene. That is enough for me to make my decision. You will leave the army with a dishonorable discharge and will receive no benefits from the army. You are dismissed."

No words came out of William's mouth. Instead, he stood there with his teeth gritted.

He wanted to burst out and smash the CO's face, but with the thought of going to jail, William was able to calm himself down.

William then turned around and left the room with heavy steps.

...

Walking out of the building, William began to reminisce about his past in the army.

Serving in the army as a special operator, he was deployed to Afghanistan for sixteen months, nine months in Iraq, and nine months in Iran.

"All that for this bullshit..." William cursed under his breath. After all, he could only blame himself for the actions he took in Afghanistan.

'What if he had listed to the order his superior gave and withdrawn as told?'

This was the thought that had been circulating in his mind.

'Maybe it didn't have to turn out like this...'

No, although two of his close subordinates died in action, he was able to save the rest. This was the fact that the CO had overlooked.

The CO was most likely forced to dishonorably discharge William since if he left William to go scot-free, then the CO was bound to receive significant backlash from the media and the family of the deceased.

"But which motherfucker was high in the middle of a gunfight?" William mumbled as his eyebrowed twitched from anger.

At this bus stop, William let some of his anger out by smashing the glass advertisement at the bus stop. It made a huge mess, but William didn't care.

Geeik!

Soon a public transport bus pulled alongside the bus stop William was in.

The doors opened for William, and the driver looked at William weirdly.

Small bits of broken glass were scattered across the ground, and then there was William with bloodied knuckles.

The bus driver wasn't Sherlock Holmes, but he was sure William broke the glass.

But without any care for the bus driver's side eye, William played his fee with his bloodied hand and sat in the far back of the bus.

When the bus began rolling, William took out his phone and began ordering a one-way ticket to Los Angles, California. It was his hometown and where his home and wife were.

Though, as of right now, William was heading to the only place he knew of.

The bus stopped and opened its doors for William.

Before he could leave the state, there was just one thing that he had to do.

William walked a bit after he got off the bus and arrived at a fancy bar.

The moment he entered, William was hit by the cool air conditioning and melodic music. Fortunately, it was still high noon, so almost no people were present.

Upon noticing William, a man from the far back of the bar raised his hand to catch William's attention.

William smiled and walked over to the man.

"What's up, brother." The man spoke as the two dapped each other up.

This was Leon, William's closest companion on the battlefield.

"Not good." William sighed as she sat beside Leon, then asked. "Where's Micky?"

"Turns out his left leg was torn more than we thought.' Leon spoke, and William nodded. He didn't have anything to say to Leon.

"Something light," William said to the bartender.

It was Leon who then spoke. "So?" He said as if he was waiting for an answer.

'Fucking CO wanted me out." William sighed deeply and received the liqueur from the bartender.

"Haaa... that dickless fucker..." Leon also sighed while scratching his head. "Well, anyway, you should take care of yourself."

"Yea." William nodded his head. "You take care of yourself too.''

"Don't worry. I'll come for a visit soon." Lean grinned, and William smirked in response.

"Long live the brotherhood." They both raised a toast to each other.
