All was quiet until the sound of rolling thunder was heard in the distance by William.
With the extensive amount of experience William had, he was able to figure out what it was almost immediately.
He rushed outside onto his front porch and looked into the night sky.
"An F-22 Raptor..." William muttered as his suspicions were right. But the sight of a fighter jet didn't surprise William. After all, he saw tons on the battlefield.
It was the fact the fighter jet and its wingman were low flying over a city. With this alone, William deduced that they were here due to the issued state emergency and the zombies.
The two jets were flying straight north toward Canada.
It was most likely because the United States of America didn't want the virus to spread to the states.
As the Jets flew closer to William, the pitch started to grow. A bone-jarring rumble as it soared past William.
After the jets moved away, William was hit by a sudden silence. He was left staring into the sky without any other thought.
'No, it's not the time for this! I have to get Hannah.' William thought this zombie virus was going to the states. Then he was going to need to protect Hannah. But couldn't do that if Hannah wasn't with him.
Just as William rushed to the back garage to get into his truck, the ground began to tremble as if a small earthquake was about to take place.
William again looked back up, and his heart dropped when he saw two balls of fire ablaze in the air.
A large commercial aircraft with both of its dual engines on fire rapidly lost altitude. As of right now, the aircraft was only about 2,000 feet into the air, slowly gliding down toward downtown.
If things were to continue at this rate, then the plane would inevitably crash into one of the skyscrapers in the city.
William stopped dwelling around and headed up the stairs and into his room. It was there when he crouched down his safe and started to punch in the pins.
Beep!
The safe blared as it opened. Inside was an American-made P320 loaded with a full magazine. Right beside the handgun were two additional magazines.
William grabbed the gun and stashed it inside his back pocket. His two additional magazines went inside his left pocket.
He then swiftly moved to the back garage and started the engine of his truck.
Stepping on the pedal, the wheels skidded across the ground before launching off like a rocket.
On the main road, many other cars were pulled over as they looked at the falling plane in shock and fear.
Because William was swerving around the many cars in a flamboyant manner, he received many curses, but he wasn't in any situation to care.
He was already going faster than 60 mph. On top of that, he was skillfully dodging cars and pedestrians as if they were only construction cones.
He looked up ahead into the sky, where a trail of black smoke was left behind. The plane was still in the air, but the next moment it wasn't.
Inside William's truck, everything was silent as the plane smashed into Wilshire Grand Center.
A massive explosion was seen, sending a cold sweat down William's ribs. The explosion only lasted for a second. What followed next was the burning of the jet fuel that cast dark smoke over the skies of downtown.
...
Thirteen hours before the plane crash at Wilshire Grand Center.
Hannah had just arrived at her shift at LA's biggest hospital located at the heart of downtown. It was a hospital only a mile away from Wilshire Grand Center.
The building had a total of eighteen floors, though Hannah was only stationed on floor eight. It was the children's section of Chemotherapy. Hannah was there to help the children recover from cancer.
But honestly speaking, she loved her job.
Compared to the other nurses that have to deal with crackheads, this role was heaven. Hannah was basically able to play with children and earn money.
Not to mention, because of this one cute child, Hannah loved her job even more.
"Hello, Ha Rin." Hannah cheerfully chirped while entering a room with a tray of soup and veggies
Inside the room played a young girl about the age of five. Her name was Lee Ha Rin, an east Asian from Korea.
Ha Rin's head was covered in a black bennie. Her cute black eyes blinked wonders, her tiny salmon-pink lips coupled with pale white skin.
Ha Rin's curious eyes goggled at the tray Hannah was holding. Her face exploded with cuteness even though her cheeks looked a bit malnourished.
Ha Rin was in the States while both her mother and father were in Korea, attending to their important matters. Well, at least that was the story. Ha Rin had only seen her parents only a couple of times when she was a tiny toddler. After that, she lived together with her Nanny, which her parents were paying for.
Hannah only had to hear a little of the story to catch on that Ha Rin's parents did not want to take custody of Ha Rin. She was abandoned by her parents.
Not to mention, Ha Rin had third-stage lung cancer at such a young age.
Hannah gave Ha Rin a sigh when she saw the condition she was in.
Although Ha Rin was going through chemotherapy to beat cancer, it also harmed her body in the process.
But fortunately, enough chemotherapy seemed to be a huge success for Ha Rin, as her doctor said this was the last time she needed chemotherapy. Ha Rin only needed to recover her lost weight and nutrients.
"Hello..." Ha Rin raised her hand to wave hello. Seeing Ha Rin wave her tiny hand, Hannah's heart melted.
"I brought you breakfast," Hannah spoke while placing the tray of food onto a nearby wooden table and helped Ha Rin sit upright from bed. Hannah then set a miniature table over Ha Rin's legs.
"It looks yummy..." Ha Rin drooled as Hannah placed the tray on the table. She then wasted no time and began eating.
But while eating, she abruptly stopped and looked up at Hannah as if she had forgotten something.
"Hmmm? Do you need something?" Hannah asked, noticing Ha Rin's expression.
"Thank you..." Ha Rin muttered with flushed cheeks.
"Oh my..." Hannah covered her mouth while giggling. "Who taught you that."
Because Ha Rin was raised by her Nanny, she became somewhat fluent in English. However, her level of fluency was that of an eight ear old. But because of this Ha Rin wasn't able to feel the affection a parent would give. Thus the lack of etiquette.
"Doctor said I should say thank you when I get food from Unnie." Ha Rin spoke. (Unnie: A way for a female to refer to their older sister or close female.)
'Ahhh... my heart.' Hannah muttered, feeling as if she could collapse from the cuteness.
Although it seemed like an exaggeration for Hannah, one could definitely admit that Ha Rin was very cute.
"Uh-huh." Hannah nodded her head. "That's very nice of you."
"Ehe." Ha Rin gave off a silly smile.
"Oh, by the way. I heard your Nanny is coming to pick you up today." Hannah brought up.
"Oh..." Ha Rin put on an expression that said she didn't want to be picked up.
"What you mean, oh, you're going to have to go back to school."
"Ehhh... I don't want to," Ha Rin cutely pouted while crossing her arms. "I want to stay in bed as long as I can!"
'Me too, Ha Rin. Me too...' Hannah sighed inwardly.
"Then enjoy it while you can. I'm going to come back after you finish eating."
"Okay!"
