The next morning...
William opened his eyes to a bright room and basked in the rays of the morning sunshine.
While realizing what had happened last night, the corners of his mouth lifted. He didn't expect Hannah to be so eager to bear his child.
Talking about Hannah, she didn't seem to be in bed.
'Ah, that's right, she went to work.' William sighed while rubbing his eyes. After last night's cuddling session, he remembered Hannah saying she had to clock in at her hospital since she was a nurse.
But now the problem was that William needed something to do. Since he was off the military, he was now unemployed. But, unfortunately, finding a job wasn't going to be easy.
'I guess today can be my day off.' So William figured since this was his first day without constant danger on the front lines.
And as of right now, there was something he wanted to have.
That was guns.
Of course, there was a reason for this.
Although William was out of the military, he didn't want his skills to rust. He felt it was a waste if he let his skills rot.
But just before he was about to get dressed to leave the house, William brought his hands over his head in a distressed manner.
"Dishonarly discharged aren't able to purchase guns," William mumbled with a sigh.
Though there was a single handgun with two rounds of ammo, that gun was stashed away in a safe in his room meant for emergencies.
William would probably need to return to the gun sooner or later.
William then began to think of things to keep himself company.
Then William remembered that he had a pickup truck in the back garage, collecting dust. But the thing was that it needed serious maintenance.
So he decided to spend the day replacing his pickup truck.
William got dressed to head towards the garage.
Clank! Clank Clank!
The garage door opened loudly, followed by a cloud of dust that assaulted William.
"Damn..." William squinted his eyes and fanned the dust away from his face with his hand.
After waiting for a moment for the dust to subside, William began circulating the automobile, inspecting every nook and cranny of the truck.
Wiliam soon concluded that he only needed new brake fluid, engine oil, car battery, and gasoline.
The closest automotive store was close enough to go on foot. And William had most of the tools at home to conduct a quick fix.
William took only a short time to arrive at the store to buy everything he needed, though bringing all the stuff back home was a bit heavy.
Back at home, William began his work almost immediately since he knew it would take some time before he could get this done. He wanted to be finished before Hannah came home.
Twelve hours later...
Inside his house, William was seen lazing off, switching through different channels out of pure boredom. He finished repairing his truck two hours ago. It took longer than expected because of problems that kept popping up in the truck.
Hannah was supposed to come home an hour ago, but she still wasn't home.
William tried contacting her multiple times, but she didn't pick up, same with the hospital she worked in.
He even cooked a simple meal for her, but since Hannah wasn't coming home, William ate it himself.
It was 7:00 pm, so it was already dark out despite it being summer
William yawned while flipping through the TV channels, hoping to find something good. He was comfortably snuggled up in a blanket. William had to say for himself he could stay like this forever.
It was then that William flipped to the news channel. He was about to skip over it, but a single frame caught his attention.
'A zombie outbreak?' It was written all over the red banner of the news channel.
"Breaking news, Canada is up in an uproar. Currently, thousands of cases of violent outbursts from humans are being reported on the streets of Canada." The news lady spoke. "Videos that have been uploaded onto the web show what to be depicted as a zombie, but this could be a very well-organized prank by a large group. Everything is still being determined... huh?"
William watched, surprised to see a man walk up to the news to whisper something into her ear. Usually, they do this stuff after they cut the live feed.
The more the news lady listed to a man whispering into her ear, the more distorted her face became.
"Again...? I'm not sure I heard you right..." The news lady muttered as she got up from her seat. She couldn't believe what she had just heard.
The man again leaned into the new's lady's ear.
"Yes... yes..." As if all her deepest worries were confirmed, she sat back down with a darkened expression.
The news lady began talking to the citizens of the united states once again.
"I have just received word that the president of the united states of America declared a state of emergency. Folks, this is not a joke anymore. It is real. Zombies, as you have seen in countless movies, are purging the streets of Canada, and the signs of infection are undetermined. Airports have been shut down along with the ports, and it is advised for everyone to stay indoors. The national guards were have been sent to the border of Canada and...
William clutched his head as it went numb. Zombies? Was such a thing really happening?
Willam then quickly switched to the other news channels.
"State of emergency."
"Stay indoors."
"""Zombies."""
It was hard to believe such things as zombies would become a thing, but Willam was forced to accept his new reality.
It wasn't just Canada and the United States of America that were in turmoil.
Yet not everyone reacted the same to such news.
Some were ecstatic about the news, as they had been waiting for a zombie outbreak to happen.
Some felt relatively confident in surviving.
And others with the only thought of survival.
