February 2010...
As soon as Savannah walked through the class doors, she felt as if all eyes were on her.
The class was filled with students chatting and laughing from every corner. One would think the school was always like this, but at the back of her mind, Savannah knew just how strict this school could be.
With a notebook and some writing materials in hand, Savannah scanned the room in search of an empty seat. She finds one at the back of the class next to a girl who looked oddly familiar.
She couldn't see her face because she was looking the other way, but she knew she had seen those daisy earrings and ponytail somewhere before. She walked to the seat and kept her book and stationaries before sitting down. The girl sitting next to her turned to see who it was and Savannah immediately met eyes with no one else but Christine.
" Oh hey, what a coincidence that we're in the same class". Christine said as the girl she was talking to asserted her focus to Savannah.
Slowly, everyone in the class starts to notice Savannah. Savannah's nervousness began to rise. She never liked being the center of attention, especially in a situation like this.
She looked around the class just to see everyone looking back at her. She liked the fact that she was in the same class as someone she atleast knew her name. It would be a great starting point for her.
"New student. What could your name be?" A boy with short dark hair and green eyes said. He was sitting on the seat Infront of Christine and looked a bit attractive as he smiled warmly at Savannah.
" Savannah". Savannah said softly. She tried her best to look unfazed and calm but deep inside she was panicking.
"Pretty name for a pretty girl". Another boy said but this time Savannah couldn't see his face because he was behind a group of students standing next to her. She looked in the direction of where the voice came from when the group moved away to reveal a boy seated comfortable on the table of the last row of seats.
The class was arranged in a way that there were 4 rows and 4 columns. Savannah was seated at the last row in the third column.
The boy was tall, with black messy hair and had hazel brown eyes. He looked rowdy and somewhat like the usual bad guys in Hollywood movies.
"Why are all of you guys crowded around her? Give her some space". A girl said. She was seating by Savannah's left and had students crowded around her table. She was quite pretty and had short black hair and glasses on.
"Let's all introduce ourselves". Christine said as she got up from where she sat and walked to the front of the class.
"I'll go first", the boy who spoke first said as he got up from his seat, "I'm Alex".
"And I'm Amelia". The girl who's seated next to her said as she stood next to Savannah.
"Nice meeting you, I'm Derek". Another guy who was seated Infront of her said as he got up and extended his hand. Savannah shook his hand before he sat down.
"I'm Rachel and these are Hannah and Amanda". The three of them approached Savannah from the crowd, each smiling warmly. With all this attention, Savannah suddenly felt welcomed into this new environment. All of them each introduced themselves to Savannah. Just by knowing their names and by the way they told her, Savannah could tell the way they behave in class.
Suddenly, Savannah saw that boy again, the same one that called her pretty. He was seated on his seat and didn't pay any attention to what was going on in the class. He didn't even introduce himself. Savannah was about to ask Christine about him when the teacher walked in.
She looked quite nice and seemed like the type of person that could change her attitude in the blink of an eye. She wore a white shirt with black jeans and a black blazer. Her brown hair was let down and she glasses where pushed to the bridge of her nose.
"Good morning Mrs Harris". The class all stood up and said in unison.
" Okay class, you can all have your seat". Mrs Harris said as everyone sat down. " I believe you've all met the new student?" Mrs Harris said as everyone turned to look at Savannah.
"Come to the front of the class and tell us a little bit about yourself". Mr's Harris said as Savannah got up from where she sat and approached her. She stood next to Mr's Harris and didn't say anything for a while.
She took a silent deep breath before saying, "My name is Savannah Hilton", she started before looking up to see the class and her eyes met with the strange boy seated at the edge of the class, "I'm twelve years old and just recently moved to South Carolina. Before moving here, I used to love in North Carolina but then..." She scanned the classroom before continuing, "we moved here a week ago and have settled well. Thank you". Savannah said.
" Okay, that's very nice Savannah. Does anyone have any questions?" Mr's Harris said as she put her hand on Savannah's shoulder. For a while the whole class was quite before Christine shot her hand up.
" Go ahead Christine". Mrs Harris once she noticed that Christine's hand was up.
"Why did you move here than?" Christine said as Savannah scanned through the classroom again.
She held her skirt tight, trying to hide how anxious she was. She looked over at the boy again and as expected, he was also looking in her direction. There was something about him that didn't feel right.
"We moved here because my mom got a job offer here". Savannah said as she looked around to see if another person wanted to ask a question.
She was about to go back to her seat when she saw the boy's hand was up.
"Go on Kyle ". Mrs Harris said once she saw Kyle's hand was up.
So that's what his name is, Savannah thought to herself. But why didn't he introduce himself to her?
"Why did you choose this school instead of a public school since you're new here?" Kyle said as he stared intensely at her. Savannah wasn't expecting such a question and didn't prepare for an answer.
"We didn't know many schools here and this was the closest to our apartment". Savannah lied. She knew this wasn't the closest school to their apartment but she couldn't think of anything else to say.
"Any more questions?" Mrs Harris asked bit no-one rose their hand so she let Savannah go back to her seat.
"Okay then. Let me also introduce myself", Mrs Harris started as Savannah took her seat." My name is Mrs Harris and I'm the math teacher for the junior class. One thing you should know about me, that probably everyone else knows about me, is that I don't like it when my instructions are disobeyed. Being a new student, I think you should note that for later". Mr's Harris said before she started writing on the board.
"Everyone should take out their notebooks and start writing ". Mrs Harris said as everyone took out their notebooks and writing materials.
Savannah took a quick glance at Kyle. He was playing with his pen and payed no attention to her. Savannah could already tell that something was off about him...
