November 2010...
After the session with Savannah was done, Katherine led Savannah out of the house before closing the door behind her. Every single word Savannah says about her childhood makes it look like life viewed from her point of view would be.... different.
Katherine went back to her room and sat on her bed. She thought things through and decided to cancel her plans for the day. She planned on visiting her cousin that just moved to the US a week ago, but after considering things, she decided to just call instead. Maybe it would be better if she did something more important...
She rushed to the stairs, ignoring everything in her way before pushing open her room door. She took her phone from her bed and immediately dialed Nathan's number. Katherine had a strong feeling that Adam knew something that nobody else did. He probably knew something that was related to Savannah's illness. But one thing that Katherine didn't understand was why Adam didn't tell anybody if he knew something so important. And another thing is, if Savannah was the one that killed Patricia then what Nathan was true, Savannah might be the killer that the police have been looking for.
The phone rung for a while before Nathan finally answered. "Hello? Is your session with Savannah over?" Nathan asked with a low voice before coughing loudly over the phone. It sounded like as though Nathan was sick.
"Hello? What's wrong you sound sick". Katherine said in one breath as she sat down on her bed.
"No, no, it's nothing I, *ahchool!*". Nathan sneezed over the phone.
"Look, you're clearly sick, don't worry, I'm coming over now". Katherine said as she quickly got up and slipped her sandals on.
"No don't worry, just tell me why you called". Nathan said before blowing his nose with a tissue.
Katherine took a deep breath before walking back to her bed." Okay, today while Savannah and I were in the middle of her session. I noticed something really odd. I asked her questions about her brother and it seems to me like as if he knew about Savannah's mental health problems before he died but decided to not tell anyone". Katherine said as she walked around her room.
"You're right about that, but, did she tell you anything that proves why he didn't tell anyone about his thoughts?" Nathan asked, his voice still low.
"No, not really, but I think it might be because of Savannah. Maybe he didn't want her to know that he thinks she's ill". Katherine said before finally sitting on her her sudy desk.
"You're right", Nathan said before gulping down a glass of water, "so, do you have any news on what might be the cause of Savannah's blackouts?" Nathan asked. Katherine didn't know how to answer this question. She didn't know what the true cause of Savannah's blackouts was.
"I'm not sure but I think Savannah might be suffering from Dissocient Identity Disorder. But to clear my doubts, I might need to know more about Savannah's childhood. Then maybe contact my colleagues". Katherine said as she fiddled with the pen on the table.
"Okay. But call me once you get more news about her condition". Nathan said before he cut the call. Katherine carefully placed her phone on her desk before making her way out of the room.
With all Katherine has learnt about Savannah, she could come up with one logical conclusion. Savannah has witnessed a few deaths among the people she knows well. She also seems like someone that grew up in a very tough environment. This all could have caused a lot of stress on her which could be the reason for her brain to cut of those thoughts and develop an alternative coping mechanism through a second personality. But even though this is the reason for her disorder, Katherine wasn't fully sure whether this was the main reason since she knew little about Savannah's childhood.
Katherine walked around for a while trying to calm her thoughts but to no avail. She went back to her room to see her phone ringing. She ran towards it and almost immediately grabbed it from the table just in time before the call cut. It was Christopher, her cousin.
"I thought you said you were coming over, what happened?" Chris said over the phone and it was evident that he was annoyed.
"Okay I'm sorry, it's just-" Katherine couldn't finish her sentence because Chris cut her short.
"I've been waiting for an hour. Why didn't you tell me you weren't coming?" Chris asked, sounding a lot more furious than before.
"I was a bit-"
"I even made your favourite dish". Chris screamed through the phone.
"Can you let me speak!?", Katherine screamed back before a wave of silence fell on both sides of the call, Katherine took a deep breath before continuing,"I wanted to call you about not coming but then decided to call Nathan".
"What happened, is something wrong?" Chris said a bit more panicked than usual.
"No, actually, it's about one of my patients, not really a big deal". Katherine said before walking towards her bed.
"Oh okay. So are you going to come visit soon?"
"Yeah maybe next weekend, I'm not sure", Katherine said as she slowly sat down on the bed, "so , I'll call you soon?"
"Okay, bye". Chris said before he cut the call. Katherine switched her phone off before placing it on the bed. She had an idea! She took her phone, grabbed her purse and rushed downstairs.
"Hey, is it cool if I come over?" Katherine texted before sending the text. One of her colleagues, Josh, was a senior at the Seniver Memorial Psychiatric hospital the both of them worked at. He knew more about patients suffering with DID than she did.
"Yeah but why so sudden?" Josh asked as Katherine rushed out of the front door.
"It's about one of my patients... I'll tell you more once I get there". Katherine sent the text before she hopped inside her car. She placed her purse on the seat next to hers before starting the engine.
"Okay, I'll be expecting you". Katherine read the text before placing her phone next to her purse.
Katherine hadn't been to Josh's house in over a month but from what she could remember, his house was just about 15 minutes away. She started the car and the journey began.
It didn't take long for Katherine to arrive at Josh's house. Blue bungalow with a white gate, no. 14. The house looked exactly the same as it did the last time she visited him. She stepped out of the car and took her purse and phone out from the seat. She turned on her phone and sent a text to Josh informing him about her arrival .
She stood there waiting for what seemed like forever before she heard a clicking sound and then the gate swung open as Josh stepped out from the gate. He was taller now and had grown a slight beard.
"Come in". Josh said as he welcomed Katherine inside. Katherine couldn't stop herself from looking around and was surprised that so little had changed over the past few years.
He pushed open the front door and led Katherine to the living room. His house looked quite cozy and small. Wooden furniture and knitted throw pillows made everything blend with the environment.
"So", Josh said as he sat on the couch opposite from hers," what was so important about this patient". Josh continued.
"Oh", Katherine said placed her purse on the center table,"well, this lady, I think she might be suffering from DID". Katherine said, all in one breath as she stared intensely at him.
"Wait, just, start everything from the beginning. Where did it all start?" Josh asked as he moved a bit forward in his seat.
Katherine took a deep breath,"a few weeks ago, Nathan, my friend, told me about his girlfriend's health, he suggested that I look into the matter and inform him about her current condition. We've had a few sessions. She told me that she witnessed a few murders and doesn't remember how it happened. I don't know for certain but it seems to me like she could be suffering from DID". Katherine narrated the summary of what happened. She felt a bit lighter after telling him about her thoughts .
Josh didn't say anything for a while but just sat there thinking. After some time, he lifted his head and said,"you're right", Josh started as Katherine diverted her attention back to him,"there is a possibility that she might be suffering from DID, but, did she mention anything about growing up in a stressful or tragic environment ". Josh asked before slouching back on the couch.
"Not really. She didn't really mention anything about her childhood". Katherine replied as she slowly took her purse from the table.
"Well you can't really judge based on her present experiences. She might just have depersonalisation or dissocient amnesia but you can't say for sure if she has DID without knowing about her past", Josh said before Katherine's phone started ringing, Katherine quickly took her phone to check who was calling, "do you need to answer that?" Josh asked when he saw how Katherine anxiously tried to put her phone in her purse.
"No it's okay", Katherine said as she stood up from where she sat, "my mom's calling and she won't be happy if I stay out for too long, but anyways, thank you for your time ".
"Don't worry", Josh said as he too also stood up, "I hope you got the answer you wanted". Josh said as he led Katherine out of the house.
