April 2005...
It's been a few weeks since Savannah resumed school. Let's just say since Savannah did that presentation. At first she thought she'd get a D or maybe a C but her group ended up getting a B. She wasn't expecting an A, especially since Mr Williams said Amelia's team was the best.
But anyways, all Savannah could think off was her birthday that was in just a week! Savannah was never the type to get excited over celebrations but this time she'd be turning 13, and for the longest time, Savannah always imagined how amazing life would be when she finally becomes a teenager.
She put the rest of her books in her locker before making her way to class. All she wanted to do was tell Christine about her birthday even though there was a chance she wasn't celebrating it, or at least with someone other than her mom and Adam. She took a deep breath and walked into class.
Even after 5 weeks of being in this school, the class still looks the same every time she walked in. She was starting to get used to this place and the people.
Spotting that long black ponytail, Savannah approached her desk and sets her things on her table.
Christine notices her presence and quickly turns around to see her.
"Oh hey, what's up". Christine says as she moves her chair closer to Savannah.
"Nothing much really. Everything's kind of been the same". Savannah said as she removed her notebook from her bag.
"Anyways, do you mind if I copy some notes from your Spanish book?" Christine asked after a moment of silence between the two.
"Yeah sure, why not?" Savannah said before looking through her backpack for her Spanish notebook and giving it to Christine. For a moment Savannah thought whether it was necessary for her to tell Christine about her birthday since they won't even get to see each other on that day because it was a weekend, but Savannah won't mind if Christine bought a gift for her birthday. Yet still it won't make any difference anyways.
"Uhm, actually...." Savannah was cut short by their English teacher Mr Jonathan. The whole class got up to greet him before he signalled them to sit down. Maybe it would be best if they spoke during lunch, then that way they won't get in trouble for talking during class.
The class went on in the same usual format. Mr Jonathan would be explaining a topic, then Amelia or sometimes Rachel would raise their hands up to ask a question. He would praise them for their good performance. On rare occasions he tells us that we're going to be having a pop quiz or test the next class and then gives us homework before walking out.
The other two classes before lunch follow the same format as well except that sometimes the teachers pet change depending on the topic and sometimes the teachers just walk in and give us a pop quiz right there. Either way, Savannah was more exhausted today than other days so didn't show much signs of participation during class and was dying to tell Christine about the plans she has for her birthday during lunch.
As soon as the clock struck 12, most of the students start packing their books without waiting for the bell to ring or for the teacher to give us an assignment. And as always, Mr Harrison didn't bother to leave once the bell rung and just turned to face the board and started writing on it. And as always, everyone's annoyed except for that one student Janette that walks out of the class without even caring ( obviously got detention for that). She was more like the only goth in middle school.
Mr Harrison finally drops the chalk on the table and of he goes. No one bothered to write the assignment except for Amelia, Rachel, Kyle, Christine and Savannah. The assignment was long as always but Savannah won't want to regret not doing it.
By that time about 10 minutes was gone from lunch. The five of them quickly stuff their books in their backpacks before rushing out of the classroom.
Savannah and Christine quickly rush to their bench before anyone could take it.
"I don't understand why he keeps taking out from our break, like, isn't it his too?" Christine finally spoke after the two of them had settled down.
"It's seriously so annoying". Savannah said as she took a bite from her sandwich.
"Uhm, today, during class, you wanted to say something..." Christine trails off, allowing Savannah to finish her sentence. She looks at Savannah, a bit concerned.
"It was actually about my birthday. It's next week Saturday". Savannah says as she continues to look down at her food. She wanted to see Christine's reaction but didn't have to when she heard her reply.
"Seriously? Well don't worry, I'm going to give you a gift in advance". Christine said as Savannah lifted her head to look at Christine. The smile on her face was evident that she's already planned what to give Savannah as a birthday gift.
....
Lunch ended quite early. Both Savannah and Christine packed their lunch boxes before heading out the door. Savannah couldn't help but groan at the thought of her next subject, Spanish. She didn't hate the subject, she just knew that she wasn't going to ever fully learn the language.
The two of them were on their way to class when, BAM!
Savannah bumped into someone or maybe something. She took a few steps back without looking at what or who she'd bumped into.
After rubbing her head for a while, she looked up just to see no one else but Kyle standing a few feet Infront of her. She looked around for Christine just to see her walking into class without her. For a second she felt upset but then remembered the tall boy standing Infront of her. He seemed to be staring at her.
"I'm, sorry". He quietly said before walking away. Savannah didn't know why but her heart was racing. She didn't know why she was suddenly so nervous even though Kyle had already left.
Without thinking too much of it, Savannah quickly rushed to her class which she was already late to.
...
Time went by fast and soon it was the end of the school day. Savannah couldn't help but search for those hazel brown eyes. She couldn't help but glance at him once every few minutes. He didn't seem to notice, infact, sometimes they had eye contact and it made butterflies form in her stomach.
Kyle. He reminded her off a certain emotion in which she was fond of. Sadness. His eyes seemed to tell a story in which words couldn't describe. He reminded her of someone that constantly wore a mask that hid his true feelings. He reminded her of a masked boy. Maybe that's why she felt the need to give this nickname. She wanted to know more about him. More about his childhood and background. But will have to wait till the future.
So long masked boy
