Chapter 48 - Are you sure...

March 2005...

"I also wanted to say something".

Kyle turned around to see Savannah's face. He didn't expect her to reply. He didn't even know why he spoke to her. He saw her presenting and didn't know what to think of her, she turned out to be so different from what he imagined.

She was still holding his hand and he wondered why, she probably also thought the same thing because she awkwardly let go of his hand.

"You also did a good job". Savannah said before she rushed out the door. Kyle stood by the door frame, confused. Why did it seem as though she wanted to say something else? He didn't understand why Savannah acted so strangely.

Without thinking too much of it, he walked out the classroom and made his way to the canteen. He looked around a bit and when he spotted Derrick seated on a bench at the far back.

He was about to go meet him when he saw Savannah. She was seated on the bench right in front of the bench Derrick was seated on. Why did he have this odd feeling whenever he was around her? Could Derrick have been right, was he really interested in her? No, no, no, Kyle shook those thoughts away and approached the bench Derrick was seated on.

Derrick noticed his presence and placed his juice box on the table. "Finally you're here, I've been waiting for so long".

"I'm only 10 minutes late, you don't have to be dramatic". Kyle said as he sat on the bench. Derrick rolled his eyes before taking his juice box from the table.

Kyle opened his lunch box but wasn't able to eat. It was like as if his hunger had just vanished. He put his sandwich back on his lunchbox before closing it. His mind kept reminding him of the little chat he had with Savannah. Of course he couldn't call that a chat but that was seriously one of the first few times he had spoken to Savannah.

His thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a snap. "What are you thinking off? You haven't touched your food. Is there something I need to know?" Derrick was the only person he could share his thoughts with. But was it really necessary to tell him about what had happened?

"No it's just that, Savannah said something to me. She said I did well in our presentation. But I feel like she wanted to say something else". Kyle finally let out his thoughts, though he still thought it wasn't necessary to tell him.

"What makes you feel so?" Derrick asked as he took another sip from his juice box. Derrick was the first person that spoke to Kyle when he just resumed. Kyle was able to tell him everything that was bothering him but today felt different.

"She hesitated before finally speaking. But anyways why's that important, it was just a short conversation". Kyle said before he finally took a bite from his sandwich. He wasn't really hungry but knew he would regret not eating it.

"This is seriously the first time you two are talking. I can't believe you're finally making progress".

Kyle ignored him and just continued eating. He knew it would be a bad idea to tell him. But anyways why did it matter? It's not like as if she was anything important to him.

He finished his sandwich and washed it down with a gulp of water. The urge to turn around and look at her was something he wanted to ignore but couldn't. He breathed a sigh and decided to look at her. His heart almost sank down to his stomach when their eyes met, her big brown eyes immediately looked away when she saw him. He too also looked away trying to avoid this sickening feeling he got whenever he saw those eyes. He had never felt this way for anyone before. Ever.

.....

The school day ran fast, and soon the bell rang, indicating the end of the school day. All the students rushed out of the class including Kyle.

He packed his bag and made his way out to the playground. Derrick went home pretty early leaving him alone in the playground.

Usually, he didn't really socialise with anyone except for Derrick. And if not for the both of them pairing up for a group project early last year, he wouldn't have socialized with him either.

He walked over to the school soccer field and sat on the bleachers. He did play sports often but never really cared to watch people play. Though he was seated right Infront of the field, he wasn't really concentrated much on the people there. He wasn't even paying attention to anything at all.

He turned to look at Savannah. She was standing by the swing next to Christine. He could never understand her properly. She was always calm and mostly silent and the only person she'd talk to was Christine, kind of like how he'd only talk to Derrick . But how could he be sure that she was truly like that, maybe she only gave everyone that impression of her because she was new.

Suddenly the sound of a car horn interrupted his thoughts. He got up from where he was seated and went to go have a look. Of course. His driver sat facing the staring wheel of the car.

He didn't hate his house. In fact, he preferred being at home to going out. He just hated the fact that he was going to be alone, as always. It's not like he could talk to the chef or maids all day.

He got into the car and shut the door. He was in a bad mood. He just hated the idea of his parents constantly leaving him alone to fend for himself. There was no argument about it since he couldn't change their minds.

The ride home was silent. He was mostly on his phone starring at the screen with nothing else to do. He didn't want to see the happy pedestrians with their kids while on his way to a miserable building.

The car came to a sudden halt and without question, Kyle stepped out of the car and closed the door. He walked into the building and went straight up to his room. Avoiding everyone else, he didn't know whether to be happy, sad or confused. He shut the door to his room and almost immediately, picked a random shirt and trousers before rushing into the bathroom.

He walked out a few minutes later and jumped on his bed. He would have done homework or something more important but was caught off guard by sudden thought's of her.

It was she was just all he could think of. He wanted to end this but didn't know how to, he didn't even know the cause of it. He would have asked Derrick for advice but just didn't want to take the risk of him taunting him day by day about his 'love story'. So he did the only thing he thought could help.

He immediately reached out for his backpack and brought out a random note book. He flipped through it and tore out a random page. If anything, he's heard that writing down your thoughts could help stabilise them.

He walked over to his study desk and placed the paper on his desk. Drawing. He couldn't risk letting anyone else read his thoughts about some random girl so maybe if he drew her instead, he could have a good excuse.

He drew a side profile of her while she said her speech Infront of the class. That's maybe the only picture of her he had in his mind that won't go away.

After he was done, he dusted off the eraser sheddings and looked at it carefully. Maybe it didn't look much like her but it did have her features. Maybe he should even give her a nickname, one that matched her personality. Rose. Pretty on the outside but if you're not careful, could prick your finger.
