March 2005...
As soon as the bell rang, signalling the end of the school day, all the students made their way out of the class. Savannah stayed back with Christine to help her pack her books.
After a while of silence, Christine finally spoke, "why did you ask Kyle to join our group. I thought you hated him?" Christine said as she put her notebook and pencil case inside her bag.
"What do you mean by that?" Savannah who was standing by the door frame said before making her way towards Christine.
"You keep talking about him and making it look like he's the villain. So I just thought that maybe you hated him". Christine said as she got up from where she sat and threw her bag over her shoulder.
"Well you're wrong. I don't hate him, I just..." Savannah started but trailed off as soon as she saw Christine's smirk, "maybe he's a bit odd, but I don't hate him". Savannah said as she walked towards the door frame. To Savannah, Kyle was just someone she saw differently.
"Okay fine, but you'll have to discuss the project with him", Christine said as she walked towards the door frame, "shall we go?" Christine asked once she was next to Savannah.
"Yeah". Savannah said before they both left the class. Maybe Savannah didn't want to mention it to Christine but she felt a bit scared of Kyle. Maybe not to an extent but he made her feel uncomfortable. Or maybe was it something else...
The duo made their way outside. They were about to go to the playground when Savannah met Kyle. He was with Derek and the two were talking. Savannah decided to wait a while for Derek to go before approaching him.
Derek and Kyle spoke for a while before Kyle heard a car horn. He looked at the direction it came from and noticed his dad's car.
"My driver's here, we'd talk later". Kyle said before he began making his way towards the car.
"Bye then!" Derek said, loud enough for Kyle to hear.
...
"So you don't have any pets?" Christine asked as she sat on the swing.
"No but..." Savannah trailed off when she saw Kyle walking towards the school exit, "wait right here, I'll be back". Savannah said as she rushed towards him. He was a bit far from her so he didn't notice her running towards him.
By the time Savannah managed to reach where he was, he turned around causing Savannah to fall into his arms.
Kyle was quick enough to catch her causing them to both end up in an awkward position. Savannah felt her heart beat faster every second upon seeing him up closely. The two of them stayed that way for what seemed like forever, that was until Kyle pulled her up to her feet.
"What is it?" Kyle said almost immediately after their separation.
For a while Savannah felt numb and couldn't hear what Kyle said. She just stood there staring at his beautiful brown eyes and luscious silky black hair.
"Hello?" Kyle said again waving his hand Infront of her trying to get her attention as the driver horned the car in the background.
"Oh, what did you say?" Savannah said, coming back to reality.
"Why did you run towards me like a crazy person?" Kyle said.
"Oh, actually I wanted to ask what part of the project you're doing". Savannah said trying hard not to stutter. Why does she have to keep embarrassing herself Infront of him? Why does he just make an effect on her?
"Alex and I are working on the written presentation. You and Christine are doing the speech". Kyle said before walking away. He didn't even wait for Savannah's reply.
After some time of watching his car drive past, Savannah finally went back to meet Christine.
"So, nice fall wasn't it". Christine said, beaming with smiles as she got off the swing.
"You don't have to mock me about it". Savannah said looking down at the fake grass.
"Okay fine, but that looked soooo romantic". Christine said as she put her hands on Savannah's shoulder.
"Yeah". Was Savannah's short reply to what Christine said.
"What's wrong and what did he say?" Christine said as she walked closer to Savannah.
Savannah sighed before sitting on the swing. "He said that him and Alex would work on the written presentation while you and I would practice our speech. I don't know who he is to be bossing us around". Savannah said as she took a few steps back on her swing.
"Well, he isn't wrong". Christine said as she walked towards the swing next to Savannah and sat on it.
"What do you mean?" Savannah asked as she turned to look at her.
"I mean, this way it'd be easier for us to work on it". Christine said and almost immediately, the sound of a car horn was heard. "Well, I guess this is goodbye". Christine said as Savannah stood up from the swing and took her bag.
"Bye!" Savannah waved at Christine before making her way towards the car.
....
As soon as Amanda pushed open the door, Savannah rushed inside. She rushed to the room and as soon as she got inside , she shut the door behind her.
Kicking off her shoes and dropping her bag next to the door, she walked towards the duvet bed and sat on it. She removed her socks and tie before removing the rubber band in her hair and laying flat on the duvet bed. She felt exhausted and all she wanted to do was sleep but she knew she had work to do. She sluggishly got up from bed and took some clothes out of her closet and made her way to the bathroom.
After a few minutes , she walked out of the bathroom, took her phone from her purse and made her way to the living room. Both Amanda and Adam were already seated on the mat, talking.
Savannah sat with but was more concentrated on her phone rather than the conversation happening right in front of her. She was more focused on telling Debbie what happened in school.
"Hey Debbie. Hope you're not too busy". Savannah texted as she waited patiently for a reply. She was about to keep her phone when she saw a notification.
"I'm not, what happened?".
"It all started earlier today..."
"Just get to the point".
"I fell and Kyle caught me". For a while there was no response. That was until Debbie's text popped on the screen.
"What! Tell me everything in detail".
"So... We were assigned a project in school and Kyle was part of my group. Christine asked me to ask him about his part in the project, so, when I saw him alone, I rushed to meet him and then slipped and fell into his arms".
"Wow, how romantic ".
"You talk just like Christine . Okay, I have to go, there's a lot of homework to get done".
"Bye then".
"Bye". Savannah texted before making her way back to the room. Over the past few days, Savannah and Debbie's conversation's have gotten shorter and their bond, softer.
Savannah brought her bag close to the duvet bed and took out her notebooks and writing materials. She planned on spending the rest of her day studying for the presentation but for some reason, she could barely write anything on her book. Her mind was so distracted and focused on only one topic. Kyle. This time it wasn't just because of the fall, it wasn't just because of how intimidating he was to her. This time it was about him, as a person. She never for once sat down to think about him, about his personality.
This feeling she felt, the way she behaved, all these things change whenever she's around him, maybe he's just unique? Maybe it's just his personality, she'll never know, maybe he's continue to be a mystery in her eyes.
