As she drove home, Bella couldn't help but feel like luck was on her side. Although she was somewhat disturbed by the fact that Kylie cared so much about Reef that she immediately decided to fly to New York. On the other hand, she was relieved that she didn't have to struggle to persuade Kylie to come, as per her agreement with Nathan. Now, all she had to do was arrange how Kylie would meet Nathan as if by accident. She would discuss it with Nathan. However, this time she had to get home quickly to prepare Reef's lunch. Her top priority was Reef.
When she arrived at the apartment, Bella saw that Reef was already awake in his room. He was sitting in front of the window overlooking the highway with a view of the skyscrapers and humans along the road, swarming like ants. Reef turned his head when Bella entered. His face seemed calmer, and he gave Bella a fleeting smile.
"You're home," he said. A statement, not a question.
