Derek immediately understood the situation and nodded.
He opened the door but Susan stared at him for a while before getting in.
He also got in and turned on the engine. His mind wasn't so clear but knowing that Susan still trusted him, even just a little bit, he was able to clear his mind for a while.
The drive was long, silent and depressing. Susan kept to herself with her gaze outside the window while Derek kept his eyes on the road but also kept watch on Susan to make sure she was okay.
They finally arrived at her house. Derek took off his seatbelt and made to open the door when Susan spoke up for the first time since they started out.
"I don't want my family to know that something's wrong." She said and turned to him.
"I won't say anything!" He said but she shook her head.
