Chapter 3 - Sleep - The Bridal Bedding Set

Although some people play video games to pass the time, whereas others play games to experience the thrill of success, Han Fei plays video games to relieve tension, but he now feels even more anxious.

After putting down the broom, Han Fei looked around as the low light in the ceiling was flickering. The atmosphere was no longer warm like home.

He approached the refrigerator cautiously. The freezer was unopened by the old lady. Possibly something is in the freezer.

It seems impossible to stuff an intact body in such a small freezer, does it mean ...

Han Fei inhaled deeply and carefully opened the freezer. It was jam-packed with several puffy black plastic bags.

Han Fei had seen a similar scene in horror movies, but watching it on TV and experiencing it were two completely different things!

Han Fei was terrified he might find something in the freezer compartment, like a human head or leg.

He clenched his cheeks and used his fingernails to puncture the bag. There were only some frozen hard fish and poultry in the black plastic bag.

The scene was not like any 18+ horror movies as he imagined. Han Fei hurriedly closed the refrigerator before the return of the old granny.

"What are you doing?"

The old, raspy voice sounded behind him, and Han Fei could feel a chill rush up his spine and to his head.

How is it that this old woman could walk without making any noise?

Han Fei turned around and picked up the broom that was lying on the ground. He was an actor, after all, so he swiftly controlled his facial expression, "I wanted to help you with the cleaning. Due to the abnormally long power outage, some water leaked under the refrigerator. The cooling system in the refrigerator is defective."

Since the beginning, the old woman's expression has remained almost unchanged. She was friendly and polite. Now, though, if people look at her face more frequently, they will get an unexplainable chill, as if she only had one expression on her face.

"Granny, I've been living alone for a long time. It was the first time that I felt a touch of familial warmth with you, so I value this feeling." He immediately started to tidy up, Han Fei stated, "In the future, we'll be neighbors; if you need anything, just come to me."

Whether or not the old lady had a body hidden in their home, Han Fei at least acted like a simpleton. What if the old lady murders him if he probes into their affairs? This was a game after all. He needs to be careful.

The old woman's body was not strong enough, so Han Fei cleaned the living room seriously, " Take a good rest. I won't bother you."

The old lady said nothing and turned towards the bedroom.

After tidying up the room, that mechanical voice in his mind reappeared, "Player 0000, please pay attention! Meng Shi was pleased with your energetic performance. Meng Shi friendship plus five, a harmonious neighborhood is the first step to a perfect life."

At the same time, the old woman walked up to Han Fei, "I had intended to tell this to you during dinner, and now you probably have no mood to eat in my house. You are a good boy and a good neighbor. You'd better listen to my advice. Don't be too greedy with your money. Move out as soon as possible. There was an incident in the house where you're living."

"What happened?"

"Don't ask so many questions. Just remember, when you go back to sleep at night, make sure to lock the bathroom door."

The old woman was tired. She didn't talk to Han Fei anymore and went into the kitchen alone.

Soon, the sounds of pots and dishes with a strong smell of meat emanated from the kitchen. Han Fei did not dare to stay any longer. He quickly left the old couple's house.

After walking out of the room, his heart dropped in horror.

"It seems that something is amiss in this game."

Earlier, Han Fei did not find a body in the granny's freezer, but he recalled a specific detail.

When he initially got to their house, the fuse was burned.

There was nothing wrong with the quality of the fuse. The fuse usually blows if the load is heavy.

There were only a few appliances in the couple's home. Electric lights, a TV, and a refrigerator in total, which he discovered as he was cleaning.

These appliances were not powerful enough to blow a fuse, so there must be other appliances in their house.

"Chenchen's bedroom was also locked. Why did the elderly couple keep the child locked in the room? Did he catch them doing something? Is there a hidden refrigerator in that room?"

Han Fei's negative feelings got even worse as a result of this thought. Looking along the gloomy corridor of the apartment, he experienced a sudden shivering.

From the residence in front of the old woman's home, it appears like someone is keeping an eye on him.

Why does the corridor of this building feel eerie?

Han Fei quickly run towards his house without looking here and there, took out a large set of keys, and clumsily tried to open the main door.

Panting heavily, Han Fei ran back to his house and stared at the shabby and chilly living room "Could it be that I'm too stressed out? It's a Resident Evil-inspired healing game."

Han Fei poured a glass of water and continued to explore his home. The words of his neighbor echoed in his ears like a curse.

"There was an incident in the house. Lock the bathroom door at night when you sleep ..."

Han Fei began to scan around again. The room is very shabby and full of dust. The most strange thing about this house is that every window has thick closed curtains.

He came to the window and lifted a corner of the curtain.

The window was sealed by a wooden board. Looking out through the gap in the board, the city was pitch-black.

The world of this game covered by darkness was so big that one could not see anything.

"Didn't it say it has visually appealing gameplay? Relaxing music? Where is it now?"

As Han Fei pulled the curtains closed, he thought that the comments on the internet about this game were a bit partial. Despite being a therapeutic game, it has many horrifying elements.

"Is it because I'm not playing it the right way?"

From the sound quality, visual effects, and interaction with naturalness itself, this game was far superior to any game Han Fei had played before, but how so? Han Fei now feels that this game is a bit too real.

After sitting on the sofa, Han Fei closed his eyes. An attribute panel and a task panel appeared in his mind.

After he helped the old couple with the fuse, the mission system triggered. A voice in his brain informed him that completing the newbie mission would speed up his understanding of everything in this world.

As Han Fei considered this, his face became dull as he clicked on the task panel and examined the three newbie tasks.

Newbie task one: take a shower

Newbie task two: watch TV

Newbie task three: sleep

The newbie tasks in this game are abnormally "basic" lacking any needless explanations, and consisting entirely of everyday chores.

"Why don't we start with sleeping? I'm pretty good at sleeping."

Han Fei did not choose a random pick; instead, he considered the old woman's prior advice to lock the bathroom door when sleeping at night. He reasoned that this advice would probably be the key to understanding this world.

Han Fei felt it was safer to sleep than to choose blindly by himself.

"I choose newbie task three - sleep." The mission started the instant this thought came into Han Fei's head. The cold robotic voice appeared again.

"Player No. 0000 accepts a G Grade Beginner's Level Mission: sleep!"

"Mission description: after a busy day, you lay down on your bed with a tired body."

"Mission requirements: Please turn off all the lights in the house. Lay down on the main bedroom bed within five minutes. No matter what happens, you cannot leave the bed for three hours."

"Is it that simple?" Han Fei made sure he hadn't missed the mission information as he got up and entered the bedroom.

A full set of crimson bedding, including pillows, blankets, and sheets, was carelessly tossed upon the dusty double bed.

"It is so red. Could it be a bridal bedding set?"

Han Fei frowned as he made the bed. He moved towards the door to follow the old man's advice and lock it. He noticed a problem.

The door of the bathroom in this house can only be locked from the inside, it can't be locked at all from the outside.

To be on the safe side, he went back into the kitchen and picked up the kitchen knife on the counter: "Would it be weird to sleep with a kitchen knife in a healing game? The first thing you should do is to take care of yourself."

The five minutes were almost about to be over. He turned off all the lights in the house.

After giving it some thought, Han Fei jammed the bathroom door by inserting the mop crosswise on the door handle. He moved the shoe cabinet in front of the bathroom entrance.

"It should do the same work as a lock on the door, right?"

He laid down on the bed holding the kitchen knife.
