Zara walks out of Quinn's office with a file in her hands as she flips through the pages with a frown.
"Where the fuck is that paper!"She curses under her breath, tired of everything.
She was so lost in her thoughts that she accidentally bumps into someone, and the files fall to the floor, flying all over the place.
"Sorry, gosh! Zara, you are such a mess" she quickly apologizes for picking up the papers.
"It's ok, and you ain't a mess"David spoke out, handing the papers to her. "David" he introduced stretching out his hand for a shake
Zara smiles awkwardly, she can't believe she just insulted herself. "Jahzara, but you can call me Zara, for short" she takes his hands, flashing him a kind smile
David's gaze lingers on her face, then it moves down her body, " new here?"He asked all of a sudden.
"Uh-huh, it hasn't been up to a week if I'm not mistaken," she explains, closing the file she was arranging.
"You?"She returned the question, meeting his gaze.
"No," David responded.
She frowns, "but, I've never seen you around," she said frankly. Ever since she came here and was given the job of a manager, she has never met him, not even coincidentally except now.
David's smile widens, "yup, that's 'cause I've not been available for some time now" he explains, "have been busy with an international project"
Zara nods in understanding," I see!"She smiles," bet to take my leave, got tons of work waiting for me to attend to"
Zara was about to leave when David stopped her, "I can help if you don't mind" he offers.
"Don't you have work?"Zara asked with a slightly raised brow. She's certain he has, though she will greatly appreciate his help
"I'm a free guy" David spread his arms wide open, laughing.
Zara couldn't help but laugh, he seems easy and fun to talk with. She's sure they make a great team, if only there'll be such
"Fine then"Zara accept, making her way to her office
A smile spreads on David's, he watches her walk away. She was dressed in a black trouser suit with lavender sleeves.
"How long have you been working for this company?"Zara asked, meeting David's gaze on her
"What!?" she asked with a frown, she wasn't blind to have seen the way he was looking at her
David smiles meekly, crashing on his behind the neck, "nothing!" He denies
Zara laughs at how innocent he looks right now, ears red as if being caught stealing."it can't be nothing, tell me" she smug on his arms, stunning David
They just met each other not long but the way she was being all casual and friendly, David was confused if she was indeed a stranger to her or they might have known each other even though it doesn't ring a bell
"You are beautiful!"David said, taking Zara by surprise as she stares at him, frozen with only her eyelashes blinking
David chuckles, finding her even cuter, "what now? I'm saying my mind here, being real and honest" he explains
Zara didn't utter a word, she was speechless.
"Don't tell me I am the first to tell you this"David teases.
Zara nervously laughed away her stress," nope... Not at all" she assures
"Really!" he raise a brow, "why the look as if being exposed?" he asked
Zara didn't know why she reacted that way. It wasn't the first time someone is complimenting her but it felt so weird getting it from him
"Maybe it's the way he said it" she murmurs to herself, trying to find an explanation to her strange yet uncomfortable feeling
"I wasn't expecting you to say that!"She said," don't get me wrong, I didn't say it's a bad thing but it felt somehow unexpected coming from you" she further explains
"Hmm, it's ok"David mutters thoughtfully," you better get used to it, I don't stop at teasing beauty's like you" he chuckles.
Even though their discussion seemed to have ended, David couldn't get himself from looking away. Her black skin made her even more unique, her pointed nose and beautiful face were as though God created her with the most expensive soil.
David has never been a fan of black ladies, he's met so many but none caught his eye until now, staring at Zara was like staring at love.
"Indeed, black is beautiful" he pouts those words unconsciously, believing in the saying.
"huh?"Zara asked, staring at him. She heard him say something but can't tell what he said
"thought you were asking me something about the company?"David was quick to come up with something
"was I?"Zara seem to have forgotten her question, her brow twist as she tries to think harder
"Yes, you were," David affirmed with a nod."Something about how long I've been working for Nathan."He wasn't scared to call the boss by his name, not even a bit.
"I was never here" Zara hastens her steps into her office.
David couldn't tell why she reacted that way, he follows her behind, "why?" he asked closing the door behind him
Zara breathed out heavily, "why would you do that?" She couldn't understand why he did such a thing, with no iota of fear
David's line on his forehead deepens, "do what? "he asked
"Call Boss Nathan by his name with no Boss or Sir or something of the sort," she asked, blinking confusedly.
David's laughter resonated in the room, Zara frowns, arms crossed over her chest. She doesn't understand why he suddenly start laughing, it's no fun at all
"I'm I that funny or you are taking me to a laughing stock?" she raise a brow, mouth twitch to the side
David couldn't help but laugh more, she looks so cute yet feisty. Like a little tigress exposed to the wild
"No, pardon me" he coughs, "you are neither of them, the fault is me" he struggles in between his laughter, "I lack sense of humor" he laughs more, but in his belly not daring to let out a sound
"Better!"Zara shoot him one more glance, taking her seat
David takes his seat, leaning, he's tired from too much laughter. "Ok, I and Boss Nathan are friends, I've known him for a long time now... We ain't only friends but buddies" the sound is a little bit prideful, saying this.
"Is that why you call him by his name?"Zara asked even though she knew the answer to it.
"Yes, and only me is giving that right" he winks at her."talking about how long I've been working for him," he touch on his hairless chin thoughtfully, "I can't be precise but I've been working for him for as long as I can remember "
"Wow! Nice," Zara said and started flipping through the papers in the file, rearranging them in order.
"I don't understand how the company can be in a deficit yet the sales and project seem to be going well"Zara grumbles, staring at the paper in her hands.
"Let me have a look, "David demands.
Zara hands him the paper, rubbing it on her forehead. She's been trying so hard to work on it but nothing was going.
The more she tries, the harder it becomes.
"Not all the company's sales have been recorded, check through again" David hands her the paper.
She goes through it carefully, only then did she see the error, "gosh! Why didn't I see this?" she cries, happily.
"'cause you needed me to help you out"David jokes.
"Guess you are right, thanks"Zara was super happy. What she found hard to solve, David solved as if it were nothing. That only means he's good at what he does but come to think of it, "why didn't they choose him for the manager post?" Zara thought, staring at the smiling face of David.
