Chapter 10 - Jealousy Blooms

Quinn goes into Nathan's office only to find the two chatting and laughing, eating their lunch.

Staring at them gave her slight stinks of pain and jealousy. She always loved and admired Nathan, trying her best to make him see her.

There has never been a day he took her out for lunch or even invited her over for lunch in his office but here he was, doing it with Zara.

She blinks a couple of times, eyes glued to Nathan, still in disbelief. She so much wants to scream her lungs out, telling Zara to back off but she can't, no while Nathan is staring at her with such a gaze

"Sorry, didn't know you were busy" Quinn quickly apologizes, lowering her head as she tries to mask away the unpleasant look on her face.

"A knock would have been appreciated, "Nathan said, finding her behaviour not all good.

"I will do better next time," Quinn said and handed him the file.

Nathan didn't bother getting the file from her, she placed it on the desk.

She had nothing more to do, her gaze meeting with Zara's. Her stomach boils inside, and with a deep breath, she walks away.

Zara looks a little bit confused, the stare she received from Quinn was as though they have been quarrelling for a long time. She couldn't tell why.

"Are you ok?"Nathan asked, breaking the silence. He stares at her with so much concern,

"Yes, I am" Zara quickly brushed away the feeling and smiled at him.

"As I was saying, that's how far I can go for my company" he concludes on what they were discussing.

"I'm glad I get to work alongside you, sir," Zara said," you've always been my role model"

Nathan laughs, indeed he is happy he is her role model. Like who on earth won't like that?

"Do you always put on lavender?" He asked all of a sudden, ``I mean, I know you love it but I notice you always make sure to wear a piece every time," he said thoughtfully.

"Well, yes I do... It's always a nice colour, isn't it?" Zara beams, smiling.

"yes, of course," Nathan couldn't help but agree not like he was pretending but her smile alone was enough to melt his heart into two

After their lunch, Zara thanked him and excuses herself to proceed with her work. On her way to her office, she saw Quinn standing facing her with her back.

She didn't intend to walk up to her but the thought of Quinn going through a lot made her approach Quinn.

"Are you alright?" She asked, concern laced in her voice.

Quinn turns to her, faking a smile."Yes, anything?" she asked.

"Not at all," Zara said," thought of checking up on you because you didn't look well earlier in boss Nathan's office" she quickly explains.

"Oh, that!"Quinn chuckles," Don't mind me, I tend to have mood swings sometimes" she flashes her a fake smile

"Sorry!"Zara apologizes as if being at fault.

Quinn quickly brush it away, she doesn't need any form of sympathy or concern from her

"It's nothing" she straightened her dress, "I better start going now, I'm sure you've got some workloads to handle," she said and left.

"Yeah sure, see you, "Zara said over her voice. she wasn't completely convinced she was alright.

But come to think of it, if she doesn't want to tell her her problem then why worry about it? Everyone has their battles to fight and maybe she is fighting hers.

With that, Zara walks away. She should start working on herself and stop worrying about people.

Quinn on the other hand walks into her office and slams the door with so much force that the door comes colliding with the wall giving out a loud bang sound.

She was angry, very angry because Zara got the chance to spend some time with Nathan while she never gets any.

The most she could have to be by his side is when he wants to talk about work and it hurts.

Right now, Quinn feels like crying, but more to that, she feels like strangling a soul, ripping its body parts.

"What if they were having just a casual discussion and nothing serious? What if I'm just taking things too hard and personally?" She thought to herself, pulling on her already messy hair.

With this thought, she tries calming herself down believing they were just chatting on simple matters, and decided to have lunch together.

With a sigh, she slumps into her task chair. She massages her forehead, trying to relax her tense nerves.

The day went by with Zara working, and just when she glanced at her wristwatch, she realized it was closing time.

She picks in the water and gulps down, quenching her taste.

David walks in with a knock, taking a seat before her.

"Done for the day?"Zara asked, eyes glued to her laptop screen.

"You didn't show up for lunch" David complains instead of answering her questions.

Zara's hands that were busily typing on her keyboard froze, " sorry, Boss Nathan invited me for lunch" she said

"Where?"David asked.

"In his office," She said, David nodded, the Look on his face could not be described.

David was neither angry nor sad knowing Nathan can never fall for anyone. That he is sure of.

"Done for the day?"David asked, changing the topic

"Almost, I need to round up with this" Zara's hands smartly type on the keyboard.

"Need my help?"David asked, "I can help if you want," he offered.

Zara smiles, "no thanks, I can handle this," she said but her fingers never stop working.

After a while, she breathes out heavily, feeling accomplished. She closed her laptop and quickly got her things in place.

They walk out of the office to his car, He drove her home.

Zara waves goodbye and goes inside. David didn't leave, he stayed there processing everything that had happened within a short period of time.

Ever since she met Zara, he's noticed the changes in him. He turns out to be a more perfect gentleman, to be so concerned and worried over her.

More worried, he couldn't get himself to stop thinking about her.

"Does that mean I am in love?" He thought, shaking his head in denial.

There's no way David can ever be in love, not even in his second life.

So much as David is a social and fun guy, he is a big flirt. Going into every skirt that passes by but this feeling, he's never had it... It's all new and strange to him.

He didn't know he was there until Zara walked out with two bags of trash, only to find his car still standing in the same spot.

She throws her dirty into the big dirty green trash can, move towards his car and knock on the window

"Are you ok? I noticed you haven't gone yet" Zara said feeling concerned,

David smiles at the realization he's been a lost curse," I am good thanks" his gaze travels down her perfectly fine figure.

She was dressed in pale blue jeans with a lavender t-shirt.

"You look beautiful in jeans, "David compliments.

Zara smiles at him, "thanks" she pushes her hair behind her ears, "see you tomorrow" she waves.

With a smile, David kicked off.
