He gazed at me with a serious expression on his face. Who is he? Also where am I? The corners of my eyes caught something shiny and I noticed the lavishly decorated room, it was large compared to the size of my whole apartment.
"Where is this place?" My jaw dropped in awe.
"You have yet to answer me." He was still on about that. " Who was the person you talked about so fondly in my embrace?" He asked curiously. Taking a closer look at him. He had a gorgeous, chiselled face and bronze smooth skin with striking silver eyes. Was he a Greek god or something?
"My dog" I answered flatly, "Where am I?" I asked again.
He relaxed into the sheet, leaning his elbow and then plopping his face on his palm. I had a clear view of his torso. And man it was gorgeous.
"In my chambers" he stated in a duh tone.
"No," I mentally slapped myself. " I meant, where is here? Which country is this? I know I am in your room." I explained like I was talking to a toddler with a small ounce of frustration in my voice.
"This is the western pack." He gestured with his hands.
"Western park…?" I looked at him to check if he was joking with me. But his face was serious. "Do you know how I can get back to New York?".
He raised an eyebrow confused."Is that the name of your pack?" I tilted my head at his statement. Then he continued. " You must be a rogue. No wonder I haven't seen you before." What was he talking about? Nothing made sense.
I breathed a sigh, clearing out the built-up frustration. "We are having a clear misunderstanding here. How do you not know where New York is" It was ridiculous.
"You are the one confused because I don't understand how a runt like you got here alive. Unless you live in the northeastern pack." He suggested.
Something in me snapped, and I stood up from the bed. "you know what?" Taking my leave out of the door. "I had enough of this nonsense. Someone had to be playing a practical joke here. And I am not going to fall for it." I ranted,
"And where do you think you are going?" he asked, his voice bombing with authority.
"I am going back home and I am tired of all this bullshit" I flung open the door only to be met with the backs of two huge men. They towered over my 5'6 frame. I looked like an ant next to them. I gently closed the door back, at a loss for words.
"What are they?," I said looking at him, my face had gone pale with shock. "Are those humans?" I was aghast at what I saw.
"No, they are werewolves" he answered, Yeah figured how could…. Wait what did he say? I looked back at him.
"Did you say werewolves?" I asked maybe I misheard.
He looked at me like I was the crazy one. "Yes, did I stutter?" He jumped off his bed, flexing his torso. I couldn't help but stare. Yup, he must be a Greek God.
I snapped, shaking my head clear of any unwanted thoughts "can I get a map?" I asked
He threw me a quizzical look but reluctantly went to his drawer. From the drawer, he brought a worn-out folded map. Dropping it onto a table he spread it out nicely. Turning to me, he raised an eyebrow.
"Are you going to look at it from over there?" I blinked repeatedly, snapping out of my daze. What was wrong with me?
"O-oh.. yeah" I went over to his side, looking at the map from an awkward angle. There was a large distance between us making me ache my neck to look over at the paper. He wasn't saying anything so I looked at him.
"What.." I asked, but he shook his head, closing the distance between us. He leaned down next to me. I froze feeling his body heat emanating from him.
He tapped the paper pointing out, "This is where you are, the western pack" his deep voice vibrated next to my ear. I tried to concentrate on what he said.
"Why do you call it a pack?" I still thought the whole werewolf thing was a charade. And they would pop out of nowhere and tell me it was a fat joke.
"We are wolves and divided into different packs." He started in an obvious tone, then furrowed his eyebrows together visibly confused by my question.
I have to accept one of us has to be the mentally deranged person here. I am sure it isn't me.
"You are one strange runt." He mentioned it to me. Come to think of it, he has been calling me a runt and saying things like rogues since the moment I woke up in here.
"The name is Raven, not runt and I am not a werewolf. Stop all these jokes." I said with a sharp and direct tone. His eyes widened a bit at me. However, I continued, pointing to the map. "And this isn't even a real map, every terrain is surrounded by mostly trees," I said in a raised voice.
His voice came out softer than before. Eyes filled with concern. He touched my shoulder. I looked at his hand then at his face. Instead of being frightened I got excited as he came closer to my face.
Then he said,"Did you lose your memory?" The words came like a rock crashing down on my head. Yup he is crazy. I could not reason with a crazy person.
"I need to leave." I could figure out my location on my own.
He went to close up the map, putting it away, as he said, "I am afraid I cannot let you leave so easily. We have to completely annul this bond unless we can get marked by accident and I don't want that"
For a moment, his words stabbed through my chest leaving a dull ache. Why was I reacting this way? It quickly vanished as soon as it came.
"I just need to go" my voice croaked, as I forced words out it was like I was on the verge of tears. This is weird.
My eyes darted around the room, stopping on the window panel open. It let in the soft flow of the evening breeze into the room blowing gently on the white pale curtains.
I had an idea.
"I never got your name," I said with a frozen smile. Taking a step closer to him. He watched me sceptically, "Lucan, " he said in a flat tone.
"A pretty name for a handsome man like you" I reached out to his face, tracing my fingers along his cheek. He flinched at first then relaxed into my touch.
He gripped my palm, "what are you doing" his voice turned dark and husky, and his silver eyes blazed brightly at me. I felt warm.
He wasn't prepared when I struck him with a lamp I had picked up.
I bolted for the window, not looking back, I jumped down to the bed of grass below. I was barefooted and the damp soil felt moist between my toes. I ran through the little garden of tidied bushes into the lit streets with people.
Footsteps splashed in the distance, and their shadows cast on the walls. We made eye contact and I bolted for the gates. "She's there, catch her." He pointed, shouting in a commanding tone to the others.
The tall gates stood high above me. There was no way I could climb this. I pranced about anxiously looking for a way out.
They finally reached the gates, seeing me halfway across climbing the gate. Lucan stepped forward, "You are taking this too far," he shouted to me. I swung my legs over the gate holding on tightly so as not to fall over.
"So long you crazy bastard" I saluted jumping over, the adrenaline rush bubbled through my vein. I felt so energetic. I turned around to run only to crash into a brick wall. I stumbled on my feet backwards. "What the hell" I cursed under my breath.
I opened my eyes to see his dark figure leering down at me. I gulped in fear looking back at the gate and where he stood. The other men were still there but here he stood right in front of me.
"How..when-" I gaped.
He dropped his arms to his side walking towards me. I stepped away unconsciously, " you will come with me even if I have to drag you back myself." his voice boomed with authority.
He grabbed my elbow tightly, dragging me back to the gates which had opened ajar. I adamantly struggle against his iron grip hitting his rock-hard biceps.
"Leave me alone you bastard" he ignored my cries. Picking me up on his shoulder. I wriggled on his back.
"This is kidnapping" I screamed,
In a flat tone, he said "Then I am obviously your kidnapper". He had a strong grip around my waist keeping me in place.
I flayed on his shoulder. He noticed I wasn't struggling anymore. "Do you surrender?" he asked.
"Yes," I breathed exhausted from my hopeless struggle to escape his grasp.
He dropped me to my feet. And I dressed properly making darts run around him. A growl escaped his lips. It was low and raspy but I heard it.
"Did you just growl?" I said in disbelief.
"What if I changed into a wolf, will you still carry on with your craziness?"
I pouted, "I am not crazy and you happen to be the one taking this joke too far" I scoffed at him. "There's no way you could turn…," my words fumbled into a slur as my jaw dropped. What the hell?
I watched in a daze as his form grew large and fur grew in place of his skin. In place of the man before me stood the black wolf from the woods.
My knees buckled weakly and I fell to the ground as they couldn't hold my body up. Fear clutched my throat. It was delayed but the second I came back to my consciousness I screamed racing away from the black monster behind.
The words echoed from behind me, sending panic through me as I ran.
"Catch her," his familiar deep voice said
They weren't going to take me that easily I thought, kicking him in his members. He crouched low letting go of me. And I ran away from the building.
His hands ran across his long jet-black hair as his guards departed into town to catch his runaway mate.
