Chapter 2 - Two

"How are you alive?" he had an astonished look the same as the person next to him. I didn't also know how I was alive.

"Where is this place?" I asked if maybe they could help me get in touch with home.

"I thought you killed her" she whispered in his ears softly however I still caught her words.

"I thought so too" the strange feeling in my gut made me uncomfortable. I picked myself up from the grass. I needed to get away from them.

"You guys don't want to help me I will go away" he blocked my path and I raised an eyebrow at him. I watched his eyes twitch, then she suddenly went for my back with another knife. My body moved out of the way dodging her hit. she almost crashed into her partner with the knife. I was shocked by how fast my body moved. I didn't wait for them to come at me before I ran.

I heard muffled whispers up ahead. I ran in that direction.

"I know I hit one of them, they crawled through these parts"drawn in by the voice I caught nearby I Increased my pace as they kept up with me. I went in the direction I heard people and soon they stopped following. Slowing down to a jog.

My heart beat in my throat, and I felt an overjoyed relief wash through me seeing their lead torches moving around. Without thinking I rushed towards them waving back at them after seeing their bright torches and hound dogs in chains sniffing the ground.

"I am over here, thank God you found me. I was so shocked to wake up and find myself in the middle of nowhere." I said, breathing heavily, having run so hard. I wanted to get back home. Everything here creeped me out.

They stopped staring at me while their dog barked continuously at me. I looked between all of them. They looked like hunters with their gear hanging on their torsos.

"Do you know the way back to New York?" I asked, but their confused gaze remained.

Then one of them pulled up their gun pointing it at me. I put my hands in the air, shocked by his reaction. Anxious about the guns being pointed at me. I rambled,

"If it's the blood you're looking at, it's my blood. I was kidnapped and injured. I need to get to the hospital to get checked" I explained as I glanced at their faces

Then I raised my shirt to reveal the wound under my belly. I pointed to my belly where a stabbed wound was meant to be. However, no wound was in sight.

I poked my belly over and over again to make sure I wasn't seeing things. I was sure I just pulled out a dagger from there.

Now I was going to look crazy to them. "Look I'm telling the truth I was…"

Bang

My eyes bulged in shock, looking at the hole it had created in my shirt into my left shoulder. They just shot me.

You could see the smoke come out from his revolver. He placed another bullet into the gun, cocking it.

"I was aiming for the neck." said the man with a thin moustache and scruffy look, wearing a black coat and a black cap. He aimed it at me yet again.

I glanced to where I had flung the knife seeing it was still there on the grass. My vision started to blur into shades. I stumbled seeing the ground coming closer to my face. I could see their feet approach me. The echoing sounds of the dogs barking faded into silence.

I woke up later wrapped in silver chains on my hands and feet. The chains felt very uncomfortable and hot around my skin.

Their muffled voices echoed beside me. They all sat around the campfire. I wriggled myself into a sitting position. It wasn't a dream.

I heard other muffled whimpers beside me and I saw other people chained the same way I was.

"I thought I escaped my captors but now this was way worse" I mumbled to myself.

The same man with the thin moustache walked towards us with a crooked smile playing on his lips. I couldn't help but scoff at him. He glanced in my direction.

"Did you say something beast?" he said with a scornful look as he approached my side. He bent down to my face.

"Be careful they could bite your face off. " another one of them said to him. And he just laughed.

"What could she do." He puffed his cigar in my face and I choked, coughing repeatedly. I spat in his face. That serves him right.

"You want to be stubborn ehh" he grunted, wiping his face. He took the edge of his lit cigar and pressed it into the wound on my shoulder. The place he had shot me. For some unknown reason, it was still there. It didn't heal up magically like the stab to my stomach. I groaned, gritting my teeth in pain.

I didn't need anyone to tell me that these were bad people. With blood dripping from my shoulder I ignored the aggravating pain. It felt like it was burning into my skin.

He dragged me by the hair. "I had thought to burn you along with everyone else at the stake. However, since you are so eager to meet your end quickly. It would be my pleasure" he threw me near the fire they had set. The others laughed at my ridiculed state.

I was scared, regretting why I had aggravated him. And by the looks of it, no one would know where we are.

He carried his revolver from where it lay. Cocking it and aiming it at my forehead. I bowed my head, closing my eyes tightly.

Someone, please help me. I prayed desperately.

Bang

I heard the gunshot, however, my head remained Intact. Then the man with the moustache fell to the ground. A hole had gone through his head. I gasped seeing his lifeless body at my feet. The others were alert looking for the intruders.

"Some has released those beasts," they said,

"They must have come back for their kind"

"Get those damn beasts before they get away," they shouted and chaos erupted everywhere. It was all happening so fast. The others had been set free while I sat near the campfire still chained up.

Something sparkled at the corner of my eye, the keys. It lay on the floor just inches away from where I sat close to the dead body. While the men ran about fighting with some unknown people I took the opportunity to take the keys.

With the key in my grasp, I struggled with the key in my mouth to open the lock in my hands. While keeping an eye out for anyone who noticed me freeing myself.

Bark bark

The hound dogs barked while being chained. The clicking sound of the chains unlocking, "thank God," I said in relief.

My hands were free and next were my feet. I ran away amidst this chaos, and then accidentally bumped into one of them.

"Where do you think you are going, you cursed beasts" he grabbed me by the arm dragging me back to the camp. I didn't know why they were calling us beasts. However, I didn't want to get killed. I struggled relentlessly against him.

"Leave me alone." I hit him with my weak punches. One of the people who had come to save us grabbed him by the head, ripping his arm away from his body.

I fell to the ground shocked. My mouth gaped open. He had long black hair, but that was all I saw before I fled away from him.
