Lost hope with all humanity, was what Kousei Kira, a student from Tokyo Art High School, felt. The 16-year-old student with slightly curly but neat and pitch-black hair mumbled with blank and empty eyes like he was already fed up with all of the things that he had been through in his life. He, who was sitting in the middle of the back of the class, had already known that he was not the main protagonist, notwithstanding his own life, since he had his viewpoint that the protagonist was the one who always sits in the corner of the class just like in the anime-
But...
He knew that he didn't live in the anime world because everything in the anime should be heaven-like for someone like him, a beautiful and perfect world to live in. He became more and more convinced that he was just living a boring and disgusting life after seeing the other students in the class laughing. No. They didn't laugh at him, but a female student sat next to him.
Kousei Kira, or the person usually called by the nickname Kira, glanced at a girl standing while she was introducing herself because it was their first day of high school. Hearing all the laughs, Kira changed his expression, and not only that, but he also gritted his teeth, a sign that he was so annoyed by the behavior of the other students in his class who were laughing at the girl next to him. A moment later, because Kira got even more annoyed, he clenched his fist like he was about to punch someone or something within his sight.
But, what made him annoyed, frustrated, and angry like this?
'Eh? Isn't that just a joke?' One hundred and fifty percent, that would be the words that would come out from the heartless students if asked why they were laughing at that girl.
Because...
"I want to be an Idol! Remember the name, Hoshi Suta!" said the girl who was standing next to Kira introducing herself proudly.
Kira knew, maybe the other students were laughing at how proudly, happily, and childish she introduced herself by her saying that she wants to be an Idol. But was that really it? Or they were actually laughing at how silly and funny her dream actually was? But nonetheless, both of the cases were stupid to Kira, because he had been thinking that it was a character assassination, something that is not different from a killer.
They just met each other, all of the students in the class, and also the girl named Hoshi Suta, but they were already laughing at her as if nothing. Wasn't that disrespectful? Or was that just a bad thought from him? What if they had actually already met each other? But still, for him, it was still toxic. Toxic friendship and relationship, that was just like a dream destroyer or killer, someone who didn't do physical assassinations but the mind of someone's heart.
However, Kira's eyes, which were fixed on the girl with blue silky hair, widened as if his eyes were about to pop out. It was because...
The girl was smiling.
'She just got laughed at, but instead, she smiled? They laughed at you, though. Not with you! You can tell by their laugh!' he thought.
And that was exactly when Kira was fixated on her. The eyes that shone as if there were stars in them, the wide-stretched smile, and the blue silky hair which was parted a little because of how cheerful Suta's movement was, looked beautiful and wonderful in Kira's sight.
"Thanks, everyone!" She then ended her introduction and was sitting on her seat once again. But until she placed her body on the seat, Kira was looking and kept looking at the smiling girl even though her turn was already over. The thought kept coming to Kira's mind. His mind was now filled with the presumption why she smiled and even thanked the other students who laughed at her. Thanks? For what? Their attention? Or because they laughed at her so it can make her even fired up? Without him realizing it, his time was wasted thinking about all of the presumptions which came one by one in his mind.
"Next," The teacher called Kira who was still buried in his thoughts.
But not long after the call, his thoughts were stopped by the sudden glance and the pure-looking stare from Hoshi Suta. Kira awoke from his thought after the Girl, Suta, covered her mouth with her left hand and whispered to Kira who was sitting next to Suta,
"Um... Sorry for bothering you and your little daydream, but Tanabe-sensei has been calling you for a while," she said.
"Snap!" Kira then turned his head and looked toward the teacher who was waiting for him with annoyance drawn on his face. Not to mention, Tanabe-sensei showed how annoyed he was by tapping the floor with his foot and crossing his arms in front of his chest making Kira feel more pressure come out of him,
"W-Wait, a minute." He looks like a little kid who is lost in the middle of the town, with him glancing his eyes left and right.
"Um, now is your turn to introduce yourself," whispered Suta trying to help him.
Kira then stood straight with a stiff expression written all over his face. He was so embarrassed, it was visible from his face that was all red due to the blood vessels dilating from the reaction to his embarrassment.
All the students in the class once again laughed, but this one was different. Kira didn't feel humiliated or offended by their playful laughter since it was a small mistake for his clumsiness. Slightly embarrassed, he introduced himself without anything special coming out of his words. He did it normally because he thought that he shouldn't make himself even cringier than he already was.
After introducing himself, the teacher already gave permission for Kira to sit and he heard something coming out from his left side as he was about to sit. It was a laugh, Kira knew that. But the one thing that made Kira curious and slightly confused was, it was Suta who did the little cute laugh. Kira glanced toward her and it was true that he found Suta closing her mouth with her little hand while giggling.
But whether it was Suta or not, what was happening within his sight was not important to him, and that is why Kira ignored her and looked at the teacher in front of the class again as if he wanted to pay attention to the teacher. Even though he did that so he can forget everything that happened to him.
'Forget what happened? Well, sooner or later they will forget everything. That is definitely what will happen. But still, that embarrassing moment will remain in my thoughts every single day.' Kira thought.
But at least, not for everyone else. Dark past was less embarrassing if there was nobody else who remembered what happened but the one who did it, and it was shown in what just happened to Kira. Kira spent time in school normally without getting embarrassed because nobody was trying to pick a conversation with him or even mock him for the embarrassing incident.
"Forget it," Kira prepared to go home.
