Chapter 8 - Name

The bright rays of a star spread across the face of a sleeping boy.

The boy lay on his side in a fetal position, calmness reigned over his eyes as he slept peacefully.

If only such peace could be eternal.

Alas such a thing was not possible as the boy's eyes trembled, slowly blossoming and allowing light to enter them.

He rose from the ground, no more than 1 second later sadness took over him. He remembered his memories and felt a multitude of emotions, but his depression was short lived as he looked into the beautiful blue sky.

"No use crying over the past, one can only move on or be swept away with time."

An old man appeared in his mind as this sentence was repeated. The boy closed his eyes took one large breath in and exhaled, his eyes reopened, this time filled with conviction.

"To move on I need to shed what little I hold from the past, seeing how my soul is unnamed I guess it moved on before me huh"

The boy stared into the sky as he fell into deep thought.

Οὖτις

The name appeared in his head, unfortunately he didn't understand how to read it and so stood stumped until

< Congratulations you have named your soul: Οὖτις(Outis) >

'what?'

Before he could take anything back the name was set in stone and the boy now named Outis could do nothing.

"That's an odd name…"

Sigh

"Oh well"

The boy ignored his name, although strange this was only the name of his soul and so he could technically name himself something else.

"Inventory I gotta check the other rewards"

"Ok? But what is divinity?"

The boy sighed one final time before he decided to leave the matter be. After all he could learn later, for the time being he should get to civilization and figure out just were exactly he is.

Looking into the sky one final time the boy walked in the direction opposite in which the sun was heading. If his memory wasn't playing tricks on him he should be going east… right?

Why east? Well no reason In particular or at least no obvious reason he simply went east speaking nothing more.

Walking for what seemed to be at least an hour the sun had gone down further, though still visible signs of it's inevitable setting were clear.

'bad… this is bad, I haven't eaten if forever and now I'm really starving'

The boy whined in displeasure, night was soon to come and with it would come heavy danger. His predicament would have been a messy one if not for the striking luck the boy received.

Not 2 minutes after realizing the situation he was in the boy stumbled across what seemed like a road, stretching from north to south.

"North I'll go north"

Looking both ways before choosing one to go in the boy followed the empty road, with every minute he began to doubt his own decision. What if civilization was closer in the other direction?

Night crept slowly but steadily, it didn't take long before the giant flame set and the smaller ones took over the sky.

A sense of extreme unease swept over the boys body, he felt as if he was standing before the giant again, except this time the sense of fear didn't come from a thing but rather the lack of things.

The darkness together with the eery silence of the night left fear in his heart.

"Wait… silence? Shouldn't there be like crickets or something?"

He stopped dead in his tracks the hair all over his body rose as if sensing the predator that stalked near.

The boy's eyes expanded as his instinct took over.

He looked around wearily, looking over every strange shadow a multitude of times, almost expecting one of them to lunge at him.

One minute passed then 5, soon enough 10 had gone by and yet nothing occurred.

About 5 minutes later the sounds of all the nearby insects could be heard again, the predator feeling that once loomed over disappeared and everything returned to normal.

However the previous incident had freaked the boy out too much as he no longer walked and rather ran at full speed down the dirt road.
