Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

Lucielle knew that killing this man was too much for what he had said to her. She was obviously not the type of person who would just kill anyone who spoke ill of her family, but in addition to the 3 years of abuse Lucielle suffered from him, Lucielle also wanted to test if she would be able to receive Exp for killing humans, since inside the Gate she didn't kill anyone. The only thing she had done was trying to burn their corpses to level her skill. Her lips twitched in excitement as, after the the man was reduced to ashes, a familiar window appeared floating in front of Lucielle which read: <4 exp received>

Seeing that she would also receive experience from killing humans was a very pleasant surprise, as it would not be a waste of energy to fight with other Slayers. This Slayer earned her more than triple the exp that she would have received if she had killed a F rank monster. If she was a less moral person she'd think of killing other humans for easy exp but even then it wouldn't be a sustainable plan, since eventually the news that she was a serial killer would spread, and she would then most likely be arrested by the government.

In the world they lived in, where the strong were valued and the weak were despised, people killing each other was not abnormal. As long as there was a valid reason for it, killing one another would not be considered a crime. This system clearly favored powerful people, with extensive networks of contacts, but in a case like Lucielle's where there were cameras around with several recordings of her always having been beaten up and violated by these men. Her attack, if someone decided to call the police or go to court, would obviously be considered a case of self defense, so Lucielle didn't mind sacrificing this man for the sake of her experiment.

She had never taken any of these recordings to the police because she knew her aunt was influential enough to sway the police in their town, and that her evidence would be "misplaced." But now that a death had occurred, if more important people were to investigate and see the recordings of what was happening here, her aunt would not be able to escape with just a warning. Having thought of all these things, Lucielle especially did not mind killing the man since as angry as her aunt was, she knew it would not be worth it for her to pursue this subject any longer.

When the notification window disappeared from in front of Lucielle, she shifted her eyes to James the secretary's direction and looked at him with a frosty stare, her small smile still escaped the corner of her lips as she thought of the future that once seemed so bleak - now she was becoming more enlightened of all the possibilities these powers would be opening for her.

"Y-you bitch! Why did you kill him?!?" James, who had taken a deep breath to steady his nerves, looked at Lucielle again with a furious expression that alternated between her and the charred ashes on the floor.

"He's already attacked me so much, I was thinking I should finally repay him in kind with the accrued interest rate. Don't you think that's more than reasonable James?" Lucielle responded as if she were explaining the most obvious thing in the world to him.

"Did he attack you? He was just speaking when you drew your knife and used... your power... SINCE WHEN DID YOU HAVE A POWER?!" James started speaking in an indignant tone, but in the middle of the sentence he realized that there was something wrong with what just happened in front of him.

In all these years he had never seen Lucielle use her power, so much so that he was sure that her power really was her good looks, but now seeing her use such a powerful power to burn a rank E Slayer to ashes... this was certainly not a normal power.

Looking at the ashes on the ground, the other thugs who had been following James as a security guard began to wonder if they could kill a rank E Slayer with their powers at such a high speed as well. Their powers were varied but one of them had a fire affinity as well but even they doubted they could kill that man nearly as quickly. It would have taken him at least three minutes to kill the man with his ability but that would have required the dead man to stay still without retaliating which obviously wouldn't happen. "This kid has the strength of at least an intermediate rank E..." The man murmured and James, being next to him, heard.

He did not doubt the man's words since he himself was a rank E Slayer, so of course he knew how to measure whether the strength of another Slayer was close to his own. It just made him surprised again and he looked at Lucielle, re-evaluating her once again.

"Ha? I've had a power since I was 16. Isn't it common knowledge that the age when people receive their powers is at 16? Did you flunk out of school or do you live under a rock? Now I think our conversation ends here. I already paid what is due for this week. So you should be going before another accident happens. Also rest assured I'll be able to pay next week as well." Lucielle stepped around the group before passing through the front gate and turning back to the group as she closed the gate and locked it.

James had never seen her act like this before and it worried him greatly as all the things they'd done to her over the years flickered through his mind. 'I need to tell the boss about this. I can't come back here without stronger backup. Who knows what she's capable of now? She might go crazy and just starting killing us all for revenge!' James thought worriedly. "Okay, don't forget to get the money for next week. Don't think what happened today will be repeated again. You better behave." he said, trying to keep an authoritative demeanor. But when he saw the frosty stare Lucielle was giving him and the slight hint of killing intent that had begun to leak out from her once more. James broke out in a cold sweat and finally beat a retreat with the rest of the thugs following behind him.

Her face slipped back into its usual apathetic expression as they finally disappeared from her sight. 'Don't worry. I'm going to make you pay for what you did to me with interest, same as aunty. Just as you wanted to exploit my mother and made her so desperate to the point of having a infarction, I will also make you feel this despair, if not greater than what she did. It may not be today; it may not be tomorrow; but one day I will make you pay for all the suffering you put this family through." Lucielle said in a low voice to herself as she watched a luxury car pull away and drive off around a corner.

'I can't let myself get an overinflated sense of ego just because I've attained power. There are plenty of people that are much stronger than me. I also don't want my aunt to put her guard up too much lest she bring in something I can't handle.' Turning around Lucielle looked at the house she grew up in. The large lawn was overgrown and untended, nothing like the luxurious lawn that the house had once had. She walked down the path to the front door before unlocking it and stepping inside.

Entering the house, the feeling of loneliness hit her when she looked at that once great place and saw nothing alive around her. 'Don't worry about that. If I hadn't learned this much in all my Gate dives over the years I wouldn't even be here.'

Wandering into her bedroom Lucielle began to strip out of her sewer drenched clothing and tossing them into a laundry basket. Her nose wrinkled as she finally took notice of how bad she reeked. 'Gods be praised I stink.' She closed the bathroom door and turned on the bathtub which rapidly filled with water before slipping inside the tub. Glancing at the time on the wall clock, she estimated Brian should be breaking into her home right about now.

While waiting for the pervert to arrive she took the time to think about her life and what she could do with all the money she will eventually be earning. 'So many doors will open up for me. Especially once I get stronger.' She had sunk down till the tip of her chin dipped into the water as she began to wash herself. As she did so she felt a gaze peering down upon her as the grime and sludge washed off her petite form.

Opening her eyes, Lucielle stared at where she could faintly see the outline of Brian through the steam. "About time you showed up. I was beginning to think you weren't coming." Lucielle nonchalantly lobbed a small ball of Hellfire at the invisible Brian, whos eyes widened in surprise as the ball of flame crashed into his face.

"AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" His screams of agony echoed throughout the tiny bathroom. As he curled into the fetal position, Brian deeply regretted following through with this plan of his. He should have left well enough alone after seeing what she had done to the mutated Gate boss.

'Mithrial I suppose the reason both this sicko and the other thug burned so quickly was because of their sins were so great?' Lucielle continued to bathe as she watched Brian swiftly be reduced to ashes on the bathroom floor.

"Alright I figured as much but I wanted to be certain." Lucielle detached the removable fountain head and used it to wash Brians ashes down the drain in the floor. " I want to experiment more with this power but I think we've had enough excitement for the day. Though I suppose I should look at that weapon box and the rest of the systems functions."

Finishing her bath, Lucielle wrapped herself in a towel before walking back into her bedroom. While her home may have made her feel the acuteness of loneliness it was without a doubt comfortable to rest and relax in. Now that she was fully relaxed in her bed, Lucielle took the opportunity to see what this strange and miraculous system could provide her.

Who knows? There may be a possibility for me to make some side money from this system." Lucielle thought hopefully as she looked at the window that opened before her.
