Michael's eyes glowed a crimson red, a sign that he was activating his new ability. Uriel meanwhile was meditating on the ground while waiting for him to finish.
"Finally! You actually did it, even though it took you long enough." Said Uriel who was happy that he succeeded on devouring his first ability.
"You should stop using those eyes for now, you don't have much mana and if you run out of mana you'll pass out."
Michael listened to Uriel and his eyes turned back into a deep clear blue color.
"Are you able to recall any of Alicia's memories?" Michael asked
"Yes, everything from the moment she was five years of age. Why? Do you want me to tell you about all her secrets?" Asked Uriel with a sly smile on her face.
"I need to know where that beginner's rift is located. Now that I know how to devour, we should get started and not waste any more time playing games." Said Michael with a dead look of seriousness.
"Fine human, it's a forty minute walk to an area close to the hospital that we just left." Are you sure you want to go back?"
"Uriel, I said let's stop wasting time and go."
After tasting the first bit of power and finally using his ability, he's feeling anxious to do more.
"Also, how do the rifts work?" Asked Michael as he realized he was jumping ahead of himself without all the information.
"Rifts are a world collision basically, they are two worlds merging and if left unchecked the monsters in those rifts will be allowed to enter this world. Entering the rifts allow you to enter their world instead, and every world is different. Monsters range from dragons to slimes, and monster in there has a core, once you kill them you can devour the energy in the core to become stronger."
"Is that what they mean by resources? Also how do they manage the ownership of these rifts since they're precious resources?" Michael was confused about this development since he's used to power struggles up close.
"The ruling powers of this world fight using strength and politics per the usual. The only difference is the threat of a world calamity, they are SS Ranked world rifts that require the strongest of this world to band together. So because of that, wars over resources are restricted to A Ranks and below. S Ranks can only battle one on one and even then they require the approval of both countries involved."
"That's a pretty logical approach, there must be shadow wars still though." Said Michael with certainty.
"Of course, but as long as they are within reason then everything is acceptable. We're approaching the rift now human."
After walking upon the area, they see a large blue portal sitting on top of a grey platform. Many security guards in standard uniforms are walking around patrolling and a large line of teenagers waiting to enter. There's a guard checking something from every individual before they enter. Michael rummages through his pockets for an id but only finds a necklace attached to a pendant with two thunderbolts and a flame in the middle.
"Do you have any ideas on how to get in, I don't think I have whatever it is they are looking for."
"Heh, let me show you a little trick human." Said Uriel as she began to cast light magic causing light particles to cover her and Michael. They both turn invisible as the light particles cover them completely.
"Now this is impressive, let's hurry." Said Michael who was wowed by Uriel's display.
They both walk towards the portal and enter quickly before anyone notices them.
