Audrey clutched her purse even harder due to her nervousness, it was a new start for her, and she had no idea what to expect. The elevator dinged open on the twenty-fifth floor, the key card in her right arm and her sling bag hung on her left shoulder, Audrey stepped out of the elevator.
She moved deeper into the department, it was one whole floor, and it was very big, she met a lady stationed at a cubicle the moment she turned. The department was still not as occupied with the usual number of staff as it was still very early in the morning.
The click of Audrey's heels caught the attention of the receptionist, "hey, you must be Audrey smith, welcome!", " good morning, I'm Audrey smith, the director's assistant!", Audrey said finally thinking that she got to the right department.
"So, my name is Sasha, and welcome to the investment department", Sasha paused before she walked out of her cubicle," come with me, I'm going to take you to the investments director, you met him last time, he handled the interview", "speaking of which, you were the lady calling us one by one!", Audrey suddenly remembered, stopping in her tracks and asking the question.
" If the interview was held on the ground floor, then why isn't his office there?", Audrey asked confused. "Yeah, we don't have that much space to hold the number of people who applied for the job, which you luckily got… good for you!", Sasha said finally stopping in front of an office.
" This is Mr. Cohen's office, come with me!", Sasha said before knocking, the ladies entered when they heard an approval to enter. "Good morning Mr. Cohen, she's here!", Sasha said stepping in and plastering her professional smile on her face.
" Thank you, Sasha, you can go now!", Mr. Dalton said. Audrey counted the seconds that passed, nervous and ecstatic that she was officially a staff of the Walton Globals. Mr. Cohen finished reading through the papers and he closed the papers and looked directly into Audrey's eyes.
Thinking it was some kind of test, she looked back at him, like it was some kind of staring contest, Mr. Cohen smiled after a few seconds and said, "I feel it, we're going to get along just fine!!, take a seat, Audrey!", " Thank you sir!", Audrey said taking the chair closest to her.
"Do you know why I picked you amongst seventy-five people?", Mr. Cohen asked resting his back on his seat, expecting an answer from Audrey. " Because of my awards?", Audrey asked unsurely. "No!!", Mr. Cohen snapped before he continued, " I heard your story, Audrey, I checked your C.V, although you have gone through so much, you still chose to stand up again, like a Pheonix rising from the ashes. You'll be my assistant from today onwards!", Mr. Cohen said sitting back up and bringing out a laptop from his drawer.
Audrey was elated that the man understood her, it was something she hoped she had with her boss, now that she had it, she would make sure she worked harder. She gladly collected the laptop with a smile on her face, "Thank you, sir, I'll try my very best not to disappoint you, sir!".
" Good then!!, your cubicle is just outside, you can design it to your liking, also we have a monthly meeting with the CEO in two hours, I hope you can take the minutes of a meeting?", Mr. Cohen asked, "yes sir!!", Audrey answered.
" If you have any questions, meet Sasha!", Mr. Cohen said, Audrey left his office after giving him a thumbs up. The staff in the investments department knew that Mr. Cohen was getting an assistant that day, so it meant they couldn't just go straight into his office. They submitted files, complaints, and suggestions to Audrey, which she was to submit to Mr. Cohen, after welcoming her to the company.
Mr. Cohen came out of his office in exactly two hours, He smiled briefly at what Audrey had done to the cubicle. The place was slightly big, almost like a small office but without the walls, she had cleaned it up, her laptop was stationed, and even if it was minimalistic, it was still nice.
"Miss Smith, are you ready?", Mr. Cohen asked, " yes sir!", Audrey stood up taking her phone, her key card hung on her neck, her notepad, and a pen from the bunch Sasha had given her earlier. Together, they went to one of the elevators, the elevator contained people from the other departments. Audrey who was new had no idea who they were so she stood beside Mr. Cohen as he talked to who she guessed were the other directors.
"She must be your new assistant!", a voice suddenly said during their conversation, " yes, yes, she is, Audrey say something…", Mr. Cohen said. "Good morning everybody! I'm Audrey!", Audrey said, confident. Her tone and the way she carried herself caught the attention of the young director at the back.
He stared at Audrey throughout the ride, one thing he concluded was, that she was beautiful, too bad she couldn't flaunt her beauty, she wasn't even wearing makeup and she looked that good. Audrey was busy taking deep breaths and staring at the numbers on the elevator that changed after passing each floor.
When it got to the fortieth floor and it was still counting, Audrey slanted her head to the side, wondering just how many floors there were. She mouthed a silent wow the first time when the elevator dinged at the fiftieth floor, she mouthed the second silent wow when she saw how beautifully decorated the fiftieth floor was.
There were a bunch of secretaries on the first floor, the marble tiles looked Sparkly, Audrey trod carefully, in an attempt not to stain the floors. Mr. Cohen shook his head in amusement, Audrey looked like she was seeing candy, he gave her some time to look around before they headed to the conference room.
The third silent wow escaped Audrey's lips when she entered the conference room. Now she knew why the headquarters looked so big from the outside, it was even bigger on the inside, the conference room was bigger than what she thought, it could even contain at least five staff from each department,
" wait till you see conference room A!", Mr. Cohen said basking in her amusement.
