Chapter 41 - Plotting

The events of the meeting confused her, 'did he always smile at the employees at random?', Audrey asked herself as she packed her things, ready to leave the meeting room.

"Come on Audrey!", Mr Cohen said as he walked out of the conference room, Audrey followed closely behind, afraid of getting lost. Not like she could get lost, all she had to do was locate an elevator.

They descended to the floors in batches, as three elevators couldn't fit lots of directors. The elevator dinged again when they reached the twenty fifth floor, Audrey walked behind Mr Cohen as he walked towards his office.

Audrey slumped tiredly on her chair when she reached her cubicle, the meeting had taken hours, something unusual, which was tasking and relaxing at the same time.

The rest of the day went by just fine, Audrey getting to know things she wasn't aware of, places and conducts in the company she hadnt even heard of before.

During the break period of one hour,  Audrey had found that there wasn't a cafeteria in the building, she went outside to get a sandwich and soda. However, it wasn't to her liking so she concluded that she was going to pack her lunch from then on. After her food had digested, Audrey had asked Mr Cohen if she could take a minute tour of the company. Sasha had been kind enough to take her everywhere she needed to know.

During their tour, Sasha had encouraged her to work hard, " you see, the boss admired hard work?", "Which boss are you taking about, Mr Cohen?, or like the boss as in the president?", Audrey asked just to be sure.

Sasha laughed at audrey's question, " I mean the boss as in the president Audrey. There are consequences for one's actions, if you don't work as you're expected, you'll be reported to the big boss. Which means, your punishment will either be a demotion or sent to one of the branches".

Sasha continued after she thought she had given Aydrey enough time to take the information in, "The branch could be anywhere in the continent, so , it's best to do your work!".

The new piece of information had Audrey shook, she made a mental note to follow the rules and work hard.

Lucas had a smile plastered on his face for the rest of the day, he was sure that the meeting with Audrey had made his day. "Now I know why the other ladies don't catch my fancy, not even the slightest bit!", Lucas said in his office as he remembered the other ladies his brother had shown him.

Speaking of ladies, Nalia kept pestering him to bring his girlfriend home, the pressure was getting worse and he hadn't even found someone who fit his description. Luckily, they had been able to distract their mother for the time being, making her forget he even spoke of a girlfriend.

A thought suddenly popped in his head, 'why didn't I think about this before!', he thought before he called Craig to call his brother.

Martin walked in looking tired, " what happened man?, did you run a marathon or something?", Lucas asksd seeing the unusual expression on Martin's face. "Well, I didn't run a marathon, it's just that someone gave me loads of work, I suddenly have to review loads of presentations?", Martin said about to lose his temper.

" alright, am sorry, I just got distracted!", "distracted!, you never get distracted!", " well, I did, which brings me to the reason why i called you!", "so what's the reason?", " I have a solution to the girlfriend thing!", "what, really?, you finally chose out of all the ladies i sent you?", " nope, I didn't, they just…, they're not what I'm looking for!".

"Okay, so what's the solution", Martin asked, Lucas recounted everything to his brother, starting from the banquet to the file he saw, and finally the meeting that took place a couple minutes ago.

" So, basically, you want to give her the job cause you like her smile?", "well, that, and cause yeah, she needs the money", Lucas answered, Martin smiling provocatively at Lucas.

" it finally happened", Martin beamed, "what, what happened?", Lucas asked confused, " you finally have a crush, imagine that, the lady thawed the cold heart!", Martin exclaimed, Lucas's eyes boring holes into Martin's head.

One thing that Lucas finally realized from the situation was that he did have a crush on the lady, it was hard for someone like him to realize it because, he never had feelings on a romantic level for anybody.

He didn't deny what Martin said because he knew he spoke the truth, he reminisced the emotions he felt in the meeting room, they were foreign, but they were peaceful, and he wanted more.

Lucas tried to avoid saying anything that Martin could pick up and start teasing him with. "I still want to give her time to settle into the company before we drop the bomb!", Lucas said, " agreed!", Martin supported before he continued, "Now that we have an agreement, it means less work for me to do, i gotta go, I have work to do!", Martin said before he left the office.

Lucas walked towards the floor to ceiling window just behind his desk, the emotions he felt in the meeting room were to real to ignore, he was henpecked and he couldn't deny it. He never felt it before, but he was sure of one thing, the opportunity was coming his way, to feel the one thing he always thought he didn't need, he was going to grasp it, " you're mine Audrey!", Lucas said in his deep voice as he watched the scenery that laid in front of his eyes.

In general, the day was hectic and fun for Audrey. An experience she never had before, thrilling and exhausting at the same time. She left the office a few minutes after six in the evening, shutting down her computer and arranging her cubicle before she left. There was still time, so, she stopped by at the restaurant, She made sure to tell Prisca all about her day.

Prisca had her fill of the gist in between serving customers and lazing around for small talk, they headed home after a long day.
