It had already become a norm for Lucas and his employees to work very hard each weekday, go home late and arrive early the following day. It was a bad habit, but Lucas made sure there were bonuses, paid leaves, awards, and fat paychecks to commend their hard work.
Martin was in another state overseeing a seminar organized for interns at their other branch. It wasn't that there was no manager to oversee the event, but it was important to let the interns know how important the seminar was to them.
However, the seminar had come to an end, and it was now time for Martin to return home. Lucas was the happiest of all, partly because his brother was returning home, and because he could pass the documents to someone whose signature also held the power to affirm documents.
Lucas couldn't go to their private hangar to fetch his brother, his mother on the other hand was more than willing to do the job. His flight was to land at eleven in the morning, and Nalia was already at the hangar by ten fifty.
The plane finally landed, and the doors were opened by one of their private hostesses, there Martin was, climbing down majestically, a smile forming on his face because of how his mother dressed, in his opinion, she looked like she was still single, even in her fifties.
Nalia beamed seeing her son after two long weeks, she missed him because he was the only one who willingly wanted to spend time with her, without being distracted by their business or a work email, not even her daughter who could do girly things with her wanted to spend time with her.
When Martin came closer, he wrapped his mother in a tight hug. Nalia was amazed at how tall her boys grew when they hit puberty, and it was because of their father, the love of her life, he was long dead now, but she still couldn't being herself to love again
She returned the hug with the same vigor, even if he was two heads taller than her. "I missed you mom!", Martin said bending a little so his mother could kiss his head, " I missed you too my love, so how was it?", she asked concerned for her son.
"It was okay!", Martin said closing the door behind him, leaning against the headboard when his mother removed her bag from her lap, he quickly rested his head in his mother's lap needing the little rest he could get after the hours on the plane. " You're so tired honey, are you still going to report to the office?", Nalia asked worried about her son.
Martin didn't say anything, all he did was humm in approval. His sleep was cut shot when he reached the office, he went to the last floor and his mother went to his sister's boutique to snatch Amber away for some girl time.
Martin was met with the secretaries on the top floor, which was expected, but what he never got used to was the female ones raking his body like he was some candy, undressing him just with their eyes!
Even if he was tired, he rushed to his brother's office, sighing loudly after he closed the door. "Big man, I missed you!!", Lucas said, standing up to give his brother a big hug, Martin returned the hug, saying, " your secretaries are weird though, don't they look at you the same way?", "ohh they very much do, but I just ignore them, you should too!", "I better take your advice, if not I'll be scared to even walk the halls!".
Lucas laughed hysterically in response, Martin continued, "that flight drained me, bro, I didn't even sleep the night before, so is it okay if I used your private room?", " yeah man, go ahead!", Lucas said going back to his work.
Nightfall came sooner than expected, Martin finally woke up after hours of sleep, having snacks in the meantime and reporting the events at the seminar to his brother. The two finally went home earlier because Nalia called, and nagged her boys to get home early.
Lucas, Martin, and Craig left the office earlier than usual, shocking the secretaries on the top floor, they celebrated quietly after they took their leave because they finally had the opportunity to go home early.
They got home in time for dinner, where their grandma, mother, and sister had started to set the plates and arrange the table ready for dinner.
"Take your seats guys!", Nalia said pointing towards the chairs after receiving cheek kisses from the guys, including Craig. " Ohhh, this tastes so good!", Martin exclaimed after taking a bite, "I really missed your cooking mom!", " Why, aren't there Michelin star chefs to cook for you?", "There are… it's just that your cooking has a unique taste, and I prefer that unique taste!", " aww thank you my love!", Nalia said to her son In appreciation.
The clanking of the cutleries hitting the plates seemed to be the only sound being made at the moment, the silence persisted and Lucas knew something was up… again.
Nalia finally said something after getting a signal from her mother, She cleared her throat to get her son's attention, but Lucas continued eating like he didn't hear the sound his mother just made. "Lucas dear!", Nalia started in a sweet tone, the siblings instantly knowing she was up to something.
" yes mom!", Lucas answered sarcastically still facing the food, taking it in smaller bits, what he thought would be able to stall the conversation. "The other day that I came by to the office to talk about the lady from the book club, you promised me you'll go, so what happened?", Nalia asked already forgetting that she was in the middle of dinner.
'So this was why she insisted to come home early!', " I promised to go if I had time, but my schedule was packed so I couldn't go!", Lucas said. Martin decided to come to the rescue, what he was about to say being the beginning of another chapter of Lucas's life…
