Chapter 31 - Switching Jobs

"It's not funny, she keeps setting me up on dates and I don't like it!", Lucas said storming out of the main building and heading towards the car, Craig who was three steps behind him couldn't help but shiver because he knew he was guilty. All of a sudden, Lucas turned towards him and said, " and you!!", Lucas pointed towards Craig, "shouldn't you confront me first before doing any of such?!?!".

The alarm bells in Craig's head went off, and now he was very sure the boss was pissed, 'I I tried t to tell ma madam that you you won't like the idea sir, but she wasn't having it!". Lucas heard his assistant out, and instantly he knew Craig was helpless when it came to his mother's domineering aura.

" Fine, cancel it out of my schedule, we have loads of work to do today!", Lucas said, his tone going back to the expressionless and aloof one. "Yes sir!!", Craig exclaimed knowing he was off the hook for now.

They left the mansion, leaving Amber to deal with Mrs. Walton's Fury, " why did you say anything!!?", Mrs. Walton asked her daughter who pretended to be sorry, but she was very sure she didn't feel one ounce of remorse.

"Come on, Amber, it took your mother a long time to settle this date, do you want your brother to grow old unmarried?", Amber's grandmother asked with a patient tone, a contrast to her mother who was presently fuming. " promise you won't do that again!", Mrs. Walton snapped, "Fine mom, I promise!", Amber said feeling the gravity of the situation.

" Also, no night outs for you for the next two weeks, also when you're going out don't take any of the cars, take the bus!", Mrs. Walton said, finding the right punishment. "Mom!", Amber screamed as she stood up from the couch.

Mrs. Walton didn't even pay attention, as she went up the stairs to brainstorm what to do about her son.

Audrey had moved into Prisca's house appreciating the gesture and how they made her feel welcome, Lizzy, Prisca's mother made dinner extra special. Of course, Prisca And Audrey did the dishes and cleaned the kitchen.

Finally, before the girls went to bed, Prisca gave Audrey a key, " here you go, Audrey!", Prisca called out as Audrey was removing some things from her box. "What's this for?", Audrey asked confused, " that's the key to the main door", Prisca said leaning on the door frame, "but I'll only be here temporarily, you don't need to do this ". " we don't need to, but we want to, it's a gesture to make you feel at home Audrey", just then, Audrey tried arguing, "no, go to sleep Audrey, we have work tomorrow!!".

Audrey sighed in defeat, she smiled at the cuteness of the keychain, it was a miniature resemblance of a chocolate ice cream and the cone. She raised her head to take in the design of the room, 'good!', Audrey thought in her head just seeing that there was a bathroom, a private one. A cupboard, a bed, and the extra space she needed.

She arranged the boxes beside the wall, concluding that she'd properly settle in during the weekend. So, she just took a pair of night clothes and her bathroom necessities heading towards the bathroom. Afterward, Audrey prayed and went to sleep.

The next morning, Audrey came out all ready while Prisca and Lizzy were still in their pajamas, cooking breakfast when Audrey came out of her room all ready for the day. Unlike the mother and daughter duo who owned the restaurant, and could go at any time they liked, Audrey couldn't afford that, so she dashed out of their house after having a rushed breakfast.

Audrey boarded a bus, experiencing the frequent stops that the bus made on the way to her destination, the bus stopped again, this time at her stop, so she hurried to get down. She bumped into another lady on her way, she didn't have the time, but she stared at how beautiful the lady was.

She picked up a phone from the already mixed pair of phones on the floor, and hurriedly put it in her bag, heading towards the supermarket. The lady also did the same and boarded the bus.

Coincidentally, the lady she bumped into and switched phones with was Amber, Lucas's sister. Since she was banned from using her car for two weeks by her mother, she had no choice but to take the bus.

She boarded the bus in a hurry, on the way to her boutique, she wasn't quick to notice, but instead of picking up her phone, she picked up Audrey's phone due to the rush and the momentary distraction she experienced, she thought she saw Craig, her brother's assistant.

Amber got to her restaurant, breathing heavily, as she walked from the bus stop to her boutique. The boutique was a result of her hard work and determination, it had started as a college project, Lucas being a partner as he funded the whole thing when she needed capital.

The sales rep who saw the boss breathing as if she had run a marathon quickly went to get water, offering her the bottle. While the was drinking, she heard a notification pop up, she thought it was that of the sales rep who was in front of her so she shrugged it off, however, the phone rang and it was vibrating from her bag.

That wasn't her ringtone, it was definitely not her ringtone, she brought out the phone and noticed that it wasn't even hers, the phone rang again and it was her number calling the phone.

Audrey had gotten to the supermarket later, so she settled in and went to where she was stationed, it was kind of weird seeing the other workers smiling and staring at their phones. She suddenly remembered that it was the last week of the month, so she went to get her phone, 'ohh no!', Audrey thought seeing that she picked up the wrong phone. Fortunately, the phone was set to slide to open, so she quickly dialed her number on the phone.
