"Hello, I'm sorry, we must have switched phones when we bumped into each other, I'm audrey!", Audrey said over the phone. "Ohh, no wonder!, for once, I'm glad my phone doesn't have a password, I'm Amber!", Amber said replying her.
" Do you think you have time for a quick meet up so we can exchange the phones?", Audrey said, really hoping that she was less busy. "Yeah, I think so too", " forgive me if I seem like I'm rushing you but I really need to check on my notifications!", Audrey said, antsy to see if her salary from the supermarket had been deposited to her bank account.
"Ohh, that's fine by me!". The whole thing was settled amicably like it should and the ladies agreed on a meeting place and time, looking for the other person wasn't a problem, as Audrey confirmed she had seen a clear picture of Amber's face that morning.
The ladies conversed and exchanged phones before going on their separate ways. Audrey didn't want to look rude, but immediately Amber left for her restaurant, she quickly checked her notifications to see that the salary had been deposited to her bank account.
She sighed thinking about how small the salary was compared to the amount of work the staff did on a daily basis. Earlier, she had applied for the job to look for a way to support her mother, just so her mother wouldn't even have to lift a finger.
But now, her mother was late and she was all alone, with bills to pay and a degree to acquire. " I really need to change this job!", Audrey said almost in a whisper as she left the restaurant she and Amber agreed to meet.
She got through the day filling the empty shelves with their replacements, she got back to the restaurant in a rather unsettled mood. Prisca dropped the plate on the table right in front of the customer, offering her work smile before walking towards Audrey.
"What happened Audrey, is anything the problem?!", Prisca asked concerned, " ohh hi, how's work been?", "don't even try it, and work has been going great", Prisca said. Audrey was very grateful that she could count on Prisca and her mother Lizzy, they always gave her the support she needed, she knew she couldn't trade that, and she was more than willing to pay their kindness to the best of her abilities.
" Your Friend, the one who tells us about jobs, you said his name the other time…", Audrey drawled waiting for Prisca to answer her question, "Nico!", " yes Nico, could you help me tell him if he could find a job which pays well and doesnt need a degree!?".
"Why, what happened, is anything going on at the supermarket?", Prisca asked concerned about her friend's wellbeing, " no, it's not that, it's just that, I really need this change of job, I need to start paying good money when it comes to those bills. Plus, I didn't want to say it before because I didn't want to seem ungrateful, but I need to find a job that pays big money, and it might seem like I'm using you, like I'm not appreciative!".
"Ohh prisca, I'm glad you're the type of person who talks about how they're feeling, if not I'll be totally shocked if you took me by surprise…", she paused sitting beside Audrey before she continued, " we understand Audrey, me and my mom, we know you were gonna have to leave sooner or later, but we're happy for you. We can still see each other, cause you stay with us now, you've officially become my sister, family!", Prisca said wrapping Audrey in a hug. However, they were shocked hearing Lizzy behind them, "yes, family!", before joining their hug.
" Now!", Lizzy said as they stood up straight, "you both work for me, so get moving!!", Lizy snapped, before the girls ran off to attend to the customers.
Audrey was glad that Prisca and her mother Lizzy accepted her with open arms, even if she had nothing but her love and presence to offer.
Mrs Walton finally broke into hysterical laughter after she thought she came up with the perfect solution to get her son to forgive her and to get him to go on the date with the beautiful lady she met at the book club.
She immediately called Craig and inquired about Lucas's schedule, she tried as much as possible to ask in a none challant tone, asking questions and giving suggestions like, "will he be very busy today?", "does he even have an open window to have lunch or early dinner?", " my poor boy, make sure he has enough time to rest", ", don't stuff his schedule with work!".
After getting the information she needed, she started bringing her plan to fruition, she needed to act fast because she was sure Lucas wasn't coming home that day, he was only going to send Craig home and stay at the office.
She cooked lunch for him, garnishing the whole thing with love and half hearted regret, when she was done, she packed the food and went back upstairs to get changed.
Mrs Walton walked into the building, confident and removing the stray strand from her face, she looked at her reflection on the marble tiles that adorned the beautiful reception of the headquarters of Walton Globals. Nalia didn't look like she aged, she wasn't wearing ceremonial outfits like most middle aged women who were rich, instead, she dressed in a high waisted jeans, sneakers and a short sleeved tank top.
She didn't even look like she was Lucas's mother, instead she could pass as his elder sister. Just like Lucas, she wore the doimneering aura beautifully, every employee at Warren Globals weren't oblivious to who she was, they didn't even dare stop her.
She took the private elevator up till the last floor, catwalking out of the elevator after she heard the ding, indicating that she was at her destination. Handbag in one hand and the lunch box in the other hand, Nalia took the turn and surprised the staff on the whole floor.
