Chapter 29 - Moving in with Prisca

Prisca was oblivious to the fact that the hospital debt was far more than she imagined. While Audrey's mother was still alive, the doctor felt pity for them, because Georgia had the cancer but not enough money to treat it, so he arranged a contract which the hospital agreed.

The contract stated that Georgia would still be able to get the chemotherapy shots, as long as she signed the contract stating that the duo would pay whenever they get the money. Unfortunately, Goergia didn't get better, and she died unexpectedly, leaving Audrey to work her ass off to pay the debt.

Audrey couldn't control how things happened, all she came up with to solve the problem at hand was to take one step at a time, she was no robot, and the only way to get out of her problems is facing them.

The first and the most prioritized was a new place to go, the eviction notice gave them a month to pack their things and leave, the second being the hospital bills and finally the third was how she was going to finish college, or start all over again. Just thinking about that part, she felt a little sting, she was this close to getting her degree, but all of a sudden plans changed.

She wasn't going to blame anyone though, it had already happened and there was nothing she could do than to move on.

'Her pay so far had been great!, Audrey thought slamming the door behind her, They had just come back from their 'fun day out', as Prisca had termed, and she saw the eviction notice again. 'If I could just find a nice one room apartment, I'll be okay. The things in here might be too much, I might need to start selling some things!'.

With the thought in mind, Audrey headed to her parents room, Audrey was too sentimental to let go, maybe that was one of the things that weighed down on her healing process.

Most nights which didn't go well for her, she would come to their bed and snuggle under the duvet, at the same time reminiscing the good moments they spent before her parents demise. 'What a pity…!', Audrey thought, 'the world missed out on their kindness!'.

This time, she wasn't going to reminisce and go back without getting any work done, she was going to pack the things she could sell in there, 'her parents would want her happy!', Audrey chanted over and over again till she got everything she could sell. She took it to the thrift shop near her and she was surprised at how much she got just selling some things.

She gathered the money and added it to what she planned to pay her new apartment with. Audrey searched when she was off duty, her computer and even weekends when she was less busy, but unfortunately for her, she couldn't get the right place.

All the places she saw were just not it, it was either the price was too high, compared to the small space,or the place had a lot of leaks, or it was too far from where she worked, or the environment didnt have enough security, Audrey was a beautiful young female, she knew it, she didn't want to get raped in the dead of the night when she returned from work alone.

The pressure was getting worse as it was already a week to the deadline, most people had already moved out, giving Audrey a harder time, thinking about how her luggage was going to be tossed on the streets like some piece of trash.

Audrey went to work that day with a gloomy expression, she was grateful that she didn't work at the cashier's, because she was sure she was going to chase the customers away with her facial expression.

She tried to believe in the silver lining, even if it looked like her things was going to be tossed on the streets. She did her work fine, managing to complete the first half of her day. Just when she walked out, a notification which she had set up to inform her if there was a house opening suddenly popped up.

She smiled, finally thinking that her anticipated house was finally going to be her own, on her way to the address she had seen, she giddily checked out all the things she needed to do mentally. Her things were packed and her payment won't even be delayed.

She alghted the taxi, checking the time, she didn't want to waste unnecessary time, so she went straight into the building, the man she was supposed to meet stood there waiting for her. The man introduced himself as Mr Gonzalez, he showed her the elevator and they both went in.

Audrey who needed the apartment paid attention to the numbers blinking as they ascended the floors. The elevator finally dinged open and they went to her apartment, Mr Gonzalez opened the door and walked in plastering a sinister smile on his face, unfortunately Audrey was unable to see that.

Audrey walked in appreciating the design of the apartment, savouring the floor to ceiling window in the living room, when all of a sudden, she felt Mr Gonzalez stroking her arms, out of defense, she turned and slapped him hard on the cheek.

"What the fuck are you trying to do?!", Audrey shrieked, " I didn't expect you to be so beautiful,Mrs Audrey!", he said with his voice which sounded disgusting to Audrey at the moment, "you must be out of your mind!", " why don't we have fun","you must be kidding me!", Audrey said inching towards the door, she reached the knob and turned it, running for her life.

"Miss Audrey wait a minute!", Mr. Gonzalez said, running towards her, unfortunately, he slipped when he was about to take a turn, this gave Audrey enough time to enter the elevator, " fucking pervert, he almost raped me, ahh shit, what am i going to do, the deadline is in two freaking days", Audrey reminisced as she was alone in the elevator.

She looked at the time again to see she still had some minutes before she checked in at the restaurant. She reached there right on time, breathing heavily, prisca and her mother asked what was wrong, with Audrey narrating the whole thing for them. At the end of her story, Audrey was surprised to hear," why don't you come and stay with us, we have an extra room", Prisca said, "yeah, it'll be fun!", Prisca's mom supported the idea.

" thank you so much, this means so much to me!",  Audrey squealed in excitement as she hugged them both. It didn't take a long time to move her things along with prisca after they were both given the day off to move. Audrey had already sorted her things before hand so it was much easier, it was a bit sentimental leaving the house she grew up but, she had to move on, and this was the very first step.
