Lucas, a young man of thirty year old was brooding over the amount of work he still had to do as he ran his big hands through his dark locks of hair. He was the president and the CEO of one of the biggest companies in the continent, W.G, which stood for Walton globals, the company had branches in every country and in every section which raked in money. Companies lined up to even have an opportunity to collaborate with them, not to talk of actuallyy being their partners, those who were partners were considered lucky, not just for the fame, but for the quota they received after successful sales.
Warren global wasn't a family heirloom passed on to every first son of each generation, Lucas's father wasn't even alive to begin with, rather it was the product of he and his brother, Martin. They had started from scratch, all with the aim of providing a be fitting future for their family, the company was stressful to handle, but it was worth it seeing how prestigious it had become.
It was tough on him growing up, he didn't have a father, and all the riches he had accumulated now was due to the toil he and his brother had to do was day and night. He was forced to grow up quickly, while most kids his age were playing video games and being babied by their parents, Lucas had to get his sibling up and about for the day, the experience was way more than it looked like and to him, the wealth he had finally accumulated seemed to be all that he needed.
Ever since then, he had been growing slowly but surely, surpassing the odds, proving the naysayers wrong and finally being the big dog, it took a while, but he was finally able to give Walton Globals the foothold on the continent. He wad literally everywhere, food production, textile industry, agriculture, real estate, investment, and every other thing he could think about to take in another set of billions.
Lucas continued his work till the dead of the night, making sure to scrutinize and finalize deals which needed his input. After hours of stressing his brain, Lucas stood up drained, but not slacking, even if the tardiness had crept into his bone, that was still no excuse to the gracious aura around him. Nonetheless, he put on his blazer and sauntered out of his office like the true President he was.
The President of Walton Globals had a bad habit of working till the dead of the night, it was expected as it was the work he had to do each day was far much more an ordinary person could imagine. His assistant, his security detail, some of the janitors and some of the secretaries on the top floor had to suffer the same fate as well, only leaving the office after the boss had gone home.
It was somehow unfair when they thought about how they barely get five hours of sleep, they had to always have coffee on stand by. Lucas left the building longer than usual, because he had to wrap up an e conference with an overseas client, he had to schedule that last because of the time difference.
After he finally left, the secretaries rushed home to get the short rest, it was always funny as it looked like they scavenged for sleep. Craig must have been the most pitiful, part of his work was to accompany the president till he no longer needed his services for the day. It was also advantageous to him because the pay was something he considered huge, he was able to send some of it to his parents who were too old to work.
Lucas was not that mean, he had Craig moved to the mansion so that he wouldn't have to be too far, he was more than aware that his assistant was not a robot, but a hard working man, it was no wonder he received bonuses for his commendable work. Not just Craig, any worker in Walton Globals were given bonuses at least once in three months.
"You can rest now craig!", Lucas said as he got out of the car, he wasn't feeling like having late dinner so he walked to his wing of the mansion, the east wing. Craig also stayed there with the president, in case he needed anything. Unlike Lucas who was feeling rather full from the dinner his mom sent him while he was still working earlier that day, Craig moved to the kitchen to pick an apple or banana.
The men were fast to get settled, sleep finally catching up to Lucas after he talked to his younger brother, Martin who was miles away from the state since he had represented his brother in a seminar.
Lucas was up and about even before the distinct rays of the sun seeped in through the windows. It was a daily routine where Lucas woke up by 6 AM every morning to jog to and from the gym behind the mansion, he couldn't find any other time to do his work out, so to stay fit, Lucas always did his morning routine. The work out session wasn't anything too much, just a couple of weights, the treadmill and some other gadgets.
After thirty minutes of work out, Lucas jogged back to his wing and got ready for the day, he went back to the main building along with Craig already waiting on him to have lunch.
They were welcomed with the sweet smell of Mrs Walton's cooking, his grandmother set the plates, while his sister, Amber brought the dishes to the table, and his mother adding the finishing touches to the last plate.
During breakfast, Lucas felt the tension in the air, and he could guess what his mother and grandma were going to say, he was tired and frustrated just hearing them talk about some girl he didn't even know existed. " just say it mom!", Lucas said frustrated, "ohh it's nothing, right mom?", Mrs Walton said because she already read her son's facial expression, his grandmother standing up, to "pick the salt" which had been refilled.
" mom forced Craig to fix an appointment with a lady called Susan which she met at her book club, and she forced Craig not to say anything!", Amber said letting the cat out of the bag, "Amber!, " Mom!", Mrs Walton and Luca said at the same time, just then, Lucas sent Craig a sharp glare, which made Craig gulp in nervousness as he shouted in his mind, 'what the helll young miss!??, you just put me in trouble!'.
"Son, you are growing older, I want grandkids!", Mrs Walton said looking desperate, "thats why you have Amber and Martin, they can do the same, you know what… I'm not having this conversation!", Lucas said storming out of the house, Craig hot on his tail, Mrs Walton could only sigh in frustration.
