Chapter 44 - The Eldritch Eye (1)

Connor kept hunting and killing these Creatures one by one, some managed to get close enough to attack but with the new upgrades his movements, especially with the Sidewinder Skill, made him untouchable.

These things took too long to die and made too much noise as the chaos element struck them, drawing in more and more which ended up sharing the same fate.

Connor jumped to the side and then raised his sword, deflecting a claw swipe by one of the Alligators. There were 8 of them around him, ones from a distance charging at him non stop while the others were attacking at close range, as if these creatures had some form of intelligence.

Connor was no fool either, seeing their large number he used their own companions against them as he always kept one or two between himself and the charging ones. Some hit their own accidentally while others were waiting for an opening.

"Chill Touch!" As he was dodging he barely managed to cast a Spell, which was not easily done while standing still let alone jumping around like a cracked out rabbit. Luckily with the increase in his Spirit Stat, he was able to manage slightly, only taking him 8 Seconds per Spell which was not optimal but still better than nothing.

A Skeleton Claw struck the first Alligator before he was hit by his friend from the back and the curse activated. With one of them no longer a threat, its speed reduced, Connor had 5 minutes before the Curse was gone to breathe and redo what he did.

"Is this how Mages fight? How stressful!" He muttered before casting the second Chill Touch and striking another, but it was not activated instantly, he had something planned for the creature.

Connor thought that Mages were powerful, especially with the endless casting, but if this is how they fought all the time, dodging and swerving around enemies while casting their spells would be way too problematic and not a very good strategy.

Little did he know that Mages never go out hunting or risk their lives like this, most would rather do their research, create Magic Scrolls and Artifacts while hiring Hunters or any other available service to get their hands on Soul Crystals, and for the Mages that go out hunting themselves, wanting to either practice their own Spells or just hot blooded, never got out alone, they are always in a group with at least a couple of people to take all the monster's aggression as they spam their spells safely from the back. Even if Connor knew this though, he would still prefer hunting alone, assuming that there would be a lesser risk of being betrayed and killed or even arguing over loot and so on.

After casting 2 more Chill Touch Spells on two Alligators, he cast the Lesser Eldritch Blast and struck those two. Their positioning was perfect, right in the middle of the group as they started chaotically swinging, attacking and randomly swiping their tails about, hitting their friends in the process. Connor smiled as he continued Casting, this time uninterrupted by the now confused reptiles and started the massacre.

Connor opened Grim and looked at the Soul Energy points he had now with a creepy smile. "This is incredible!" Connor muttered, admiring the numbers.

"If I put all of the Points into Spirit I'll become an official Mage and reach the First Order right now.. Took me long enough!" Connor felt incredible. He never thought that he would find these Alligators and have the perfect counter Spells for their impenetrable defenses, gaining him such crazy amounts of Soul Energy points this fast. Although if anyone heard Connor's last comment they would kill him.. For most people it takes them years of constant struggle to reach their First Order, even the rich ones take a few months if not a year to do the same. Other than the SE needed, they would still require crazy amounts of Void Tablets to succeed since after the fifth Star, the Tablet would crack instantly and crumble if they added more than 2, sometimes they would break if they added only 1 Star which was invigorating.. Connor does not realize fully yet how lucky he was in finding the Grimoire.

"I have 5 Stars in Spirit, if I want to add another 5 that would cost me 4 000 Soul Energy… so i would still have 3 150 Soul Energy after i do that" Connor started quickly walking off the beach, onto the path and eventually into the first wooden house he found. "I'm back" He said with a smile, grabbing wood and whatever he finds to block the windows and door, making sure everything was safe. "I don't know what would happen so a bit of caution never hurt anybody!" Connor muttered before speaking out loud. "Grim, add 5 Stars into Spirit!"

Grim's pages turned and the Soul Energy points started quickly decreasing. Connor took a deep breath, ready for whatever was coming.

At first, he felt some kind of pressure from deep inside before it turned into blinding pain.. A pain that would make anybody scream in terror, and that is what Connor did. There was no holding back and gritting his teeth, this was too much for him to handle as his screams echoed through the house then the forest and beach outside, creatures heard the painful call and some of them rushed in that direction, looking for whatever injured creature they could find and grab an easy meal.

BAM!

Something struck the house's wall from the outside as the wood shook and dust fell from the ceiling. The banging and strikes continued but fell on deaph ears as Connor's senses were completely dull, muffled and useless at the moment.

He was squirming on the floor in agony as he couldn't find where to clench, the pain was moving all over his body as if something was inside of him tearing him apart. He started scratching constantly looking for it as blood started to slowly cover the ground. It took him too long to stop as now his whole body was covered in wounds and his armor no longer together. With Connor's strength a mere simple leather armor, even a reinforced one like he had on, couldn't take it and tore apart, giving him access to his own flesh.

"FUCKING STOP!! STOP!" He kept yelling as he could no longer take it, his fists smashing onto the ground, creating small holes as splinters and pieces of wood flew everywhere.

Invisible to the naked eye, a small viel was covering Connor's body as something in the air kept being pulled towards it, making it grow thicker by the second… This process continued for a few more seconds before it started to slow down, the pain lessening slowly along with it and giving Connor enough breathing room to notice something.

BOOM!

The walls of the house kept shaking as small holes and cracks were everywhere, Connor's eyes widened as he looked at the door and windows, they were close to completely braking. Unfortunately, he wasn't capable of moving yet, the pain was still there but even his body was numb all over as he lost too much blood at this point.

"Da… Damn it!" He was barely able to mutter, his eyes glaring at the cracks as he waited... A race of time... Will he be able to move first or whatever is out there will force its way inside.
