Connor woke up in Gaya with a smile. He summoned Grim as he looked at the Soul Energy points he currently had.
[3 250 SE]
The Zombie killing was extremely profitable as each Zombie gave around 10 SE and with the numbers he took down, Connor left piles of blood and corpses.
"What should I get first?" He muttered with a smile. He opened Grim and spoke. "Grim, show me the Spells that I can learn" The smile was still plastered on his face when Grim appeared and its pages flipped, finally settling on one.
"I'll get Lesser Eldritch Blast!" He said, looking at the Soul Energy points as they were drained instantly, leaving him with a meager 250 SE.
The same feeling occurred, information dug through his brain and his body remembering the hand signs, but this time something was different. He felt as if his very soul was imprinted but a great pain and discomfort overwhelmed him.
Argh!
He groaned as he held back from screaming. This continued for a while before it slowly started to fade away.
Connor stood there breathing rapidly for a bit before he stood up and walked away. He entered the Camp again and started heading towards Rachel as he kept grabbing and eating all the food he had in his Inventory. "I'm hungry!" He muttered in confusion. He felt an insatiable hunger as his body ached all over, but when he passed by Craig he heard him call for him. "Hey Connor!" Craig said before jogging towards him. "I need to talk to you"
"Sorry Craig not now" Connor said before he wanted to continue walking when Craig quickly moved and blocked his way. "It's important"
"Got food?" Connor asked.
"Food? Y..yeah.. Why?" Craig answered, confused.
"Not important, just hand it over and we'll talk" Connor demanded.
"S.. Sure" Craig grabbed a few sandwiches he had in his Crystal and a few roasted meat pieces. "Enough?" He asked.
"Yeah, for now" Connor said as he started eating. "What do you want?" he asked.
"Let's go someplace else, without anyone around" Craig said as he led Connor behind one of the houses. "So listen, since our fight last time I've taken a small interest in Magic and paid some people to get me some information on it…" He paused for a bit, looking around before continuing. "I've learned a few things that you might want to hear!"
"What is it?" Connor said with a frown as he stopped eating. Maybe what happened to him just now could be explained.
"There are Rules in Magic that must not be Broken!" Craig continued. "First of all, a Mage.. or a Novice can only use one Element, the Element of their first Spell and nothing else.. Of course there are some Mages who wield two Elements but they are very rare.
Second.. A Weak Soul or Spirit can only carry a single Spell of that Element and nothing more, if a novice takes a risk and tries to learn another they will surely perish, their Souls broken, becoming empty husks.
Here's the details. When a Novice learns their first Spell, a form of Rune or something I'm not sure is carved into their very Souls. This thing is made out of the Spell's Element, be it Ice, Fire or Water it matters not and whenever said Novice tries to learn another, they need to have a Soul strong enough to withstand another or they die.
From what they told me, someone needs to have 10 Stars in Spirit to be able to learn another Spell which will mark them as full fledged Mages instead of Novices.. A low ranked Mage, but a Mage nonetheless" Craig stopped talking, giving Connor enough time to comprehend what he just told him.
'One Spell? Only one Element? Then what just happened to me? Why didn't my Soul break? The knowledge and mastery of the Lesser Eldritch Blast is there, I can cast it if I want… Does that mean I'm one of the rare few who can wield two Elements?' Connor had countless questions but he slowly started putting two and two together. 'Then maybe I can use more than 2 Elements!' His imagination started to run wild before he stopped himself. 'I'm stupid, the pain i felt is most likely my Soul nearly breaking.. I nearly killed myself!'
"Hey you ok?" Craig asked, looking at Connor's frown. "I heard the Ice Element is really strong so you don't need to feel bad about it" Craig falsely assumed that Connor was annoyed by the Element that he accidentally picked.
"I know, thanks" Connor said before he started to walk away.
"Hey, remember not to learn any other Spell before reaching 10 Stars in Spirit or you'll die" Craig quickly stopped him. "When you do achieve that you'll become a First Order Evolver so keep trying.. Unfortunately the Don had been hoarding most of the Tablets all to himself lately and barely anybody could upgrade themselves.. He must be planning something huge for the Monastery!"
"He's hoarding the Tablets?" Connor asked. "Can you explain the First Order Evolver thing to me Craig?"
"You don't know?" Craig frowned. "Oh yeah, I heard from Doug that your memory is fuzzy from the accident, ok, listen" Craig cleared his throat and spoke. "There are 10 Evolver Orders which are the ranking of the elites.
To achieve the First Order you'll need at least 10 Stars in any of the three Stats and to reach the Second Order you'll need 20 and so on" Craig explained. "When one reaches a new Order they receive a passive ability given by the Void.. or at least that is what the Mages think it comes from… I heard of a First Order Evolver getting a Passive Skill of Stamina Regeneration. He was a Strength Type Evolver and with that Passive he had no rival of the same Rank, of course except the elite few with the same luck" Craig sighed. "Those lucky bastards received abilities that gave them immunity to fire, some were able to heal and others became one with the Sword.. Of course there are ones who have abilities like longer breath holding and so on, poor bastards!"
"A Passive?" Connor's eyes lit up eager to reach the same rank. "Thanks Craig" He said before running off.
"Hey wait.. It.. wasn't free information" Said as he looked at Connor's leaving back before his voice slowly faded. "I just got scammed!"
