_Angie's Pov_
The swimming cabin was empty when I got in. I quickly wear my swimsuit as the game will be starting soon. I also took my google before rushing out.
"Can you get into the water?" Nancy asked as soon as she sighted me, "Would you be fine?"
"Yes, I'll try," I replied, bobbing my head.
"I'm so sorry, I was not there to help you when the incident happened." She said, giving me a warm hug, and rubbing my back gently. She then nudged me to rush down to meet with the other participants. When I got to the swimming pool, I could see Mr Kelvin and other participants, stunned to see me.
Mr Kelvin ran to me, "Angie, why are you here?" He asked and I could see the worried expression on his countenance. "Don't tell me you still want to get into the water?"
"Yes, Mr Kelvin, I'm okay and good now, I can manage," I replied, trying to be strong. He looked at me with a queer expression. "I'm perfectly fine," I assured, beaming at him.
"Please, be careful. If you notice any inconvenience, do not hesitate to bring yourself out of the water." He cautioned.
"Noted," I mumbled and ran to meet with the other contestants.
Since the competition was only for newbies, we had to run the last meter race which was the 200m. Mr Kelvin chose the officials from the old swimmers to play the role of judges, timer and Chief starter while he did the referee and less I forget, I'm a butterfly strokes swimmer. The race began almost immediately. Ten of us positioned ourselves on the elevated starting block located at the edge of the pool. Some students began to shout the names of some contestants they knew.
Then I heard voices shouting my name too. I turned to see Nancy and wait a minute! My dad with Dennis, they were all waving and smiling at me. I was overwhelmed, at least I had three people who were cheering for me. I faced the front when I heard the whistle blow. In seconds, we were already inside the water.
It was tough inside the water.
Holding onto my breath was a lot difficult to do but I made sure I endured it in all possibilities. I was astonished when I heard I was the first lead. Nancy was all over me, cleaning and dressing me up.
"This is a thing to celebrate baby girl." She muttered, smiling sheepishly.
"It's all thanks to you," I told her and returned the smile.
"You did well, I was afraid you might be short of breath." She looked at me, worried.
"I was. I just tried to hold onto it." I conceded.
"You will become a great swimmer one day " She assured.
"A great swimmer like you." I complimented and we both burst out laughing.
"Let's celebrate!" She announced.
"Not today you know, Dad and Dennis are outside waiting for me.
"I never said that it was today. Anyway, I'll love to turn it into a beautiful gift for you."
"Really! What is it?"
She bent low to my ear level and whispered, "Meeting with my buddies."
"What?!" I exclaimed and covered my mouth with my hands, all eyes on me.
"Do you mean it?" I whispered back.
"Yes of course."
"Great! I can't wait to meet them." I beamed with joy.
"Tomorrow, I'll pick you up by 6 pm."
"I'll be waiting." I divulged happily and gave her a big hug.

Immediately she ran in, I sighted her, "Is she insane? What is she doing here?" She was supposed to be in the hospital bed or at home resting. I watched as she pleaded with her supervisor to participate in the game and how she positioned herself. But most surprising to see Nancy cheering for her. "They knew each other all along? It's rare, Nancy doesn't have friends." I thought.
She swam as if her life depended on it, taking the lead. She's a good swimmer, I must admit. Her strokes were smooth, her turns were also awesome.
"Wow!" The students wailed when the race came to an end. "23 seconds!" The chief timer announced. She took the first lead and for some reason, I felt happy for her. Did I just say happy? Holy shit!
Her breathing was hard when she came out of the water, I knew it. She could get sick for months, I don't know why she had to risk her life. I watched as Nancy covered her up with a blanket and led her to sit. I stood up almost immediately, my time there was up.
"Did you attend the competition?" My mentor asked, over the phone.
"It's no fun," I replied and scoffed
"Hmm... explain the event to me." He uttered.
"I've got no time," I said to avoid a long conversation. I was about to hang up when he delivered the annoying message I never wanted to hear.
"Your dad asked about you." He relayed.
I was devastated but my mentor continued, "He said he's been busy lately so he's unable to see you at home."
I became silent for some while. It's not like I also wanted to see him.
He proceeded, "He hopes to see you at his office today, right now."
"I'm not in the mood," I mumbled, finding my voice back. Our meetings do not usually end well.
"He's serious about it." Mr Anderson tried to defend himself.
"When was he never serious?" I inquired plainly and hung up. He's just too serious with things and I hate him for that. He only smiles when he's with that f**king Julianne and her daughter. I'm very sure he only smiled at me those days, pretending to be a good father. He is just too smug for my liking. My phone rang again, I stared at the screen and was Mr Anderson again.
"Fuck off man!" I raged before putting on the air flight mode. Silly humans!
