But as he strode out, he sensed something might go wrong and knew he would regret it if anything happened to her, just like a few years back. Immediately, he ran hastily, back to the swimming alley. "Shit!" He muttered when he saw she was already drowning. With all his might, he dives into the water to save her.
Underneath, he could see her eyes closing slowly. He swam toward her, grabbed her right hand and swam back to the water's surface. He carried her out immediately and placed her on the floor, she was unconscious. He placed his ear to her mouth and nose checking if she was breathing. He checked her pulse too, no sign of breathing. So he decided to carry on the mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
He turned her head to the side, allowing water to drain from her mouth and nose. His right hand was placed on the floor, he used his left to pinch her nose tight. Then he bent his head low toward her mouth and breathed air into her. With that, he took his hands to her chest area and pressed them down slowly but hard repeating the process.
Not long, Angie coughed out the water she had drunk up. Slowly, she opened her eyes to see a figure staring down at her.
"Are you okay?" Maths asked carefully while she answered with a nod before closing her eyes. He checked her pulse again to see if she was still breathing.
Satisfied with her current condition, Maths stood up, brought out his cell and dialled the emergency number. He delivered his reasons for calling before hanging up. He carried her up in a bridal style and walked back to where the couch was. Gently and slowly, he placed her on the couch and covered her up with a cloth towel. By the time the ambulance came in, Maths was already gone. He was nowhere to be found, making them wonder who would have left an unconscious drowned girl all alone in an empty room.
Meanwhile, Maths watched from the rooftop as she was put on the stretcher into the emergency bus before she was driven out of the school compound. He felt relief and at the same time bitter for not saving his mom just like he just saved Angie. Just then, someone tapped him lightly on his back.
"What are you doing here?" Davis asked.
"Huh?" He freaked out.
"What's going on?" Davis inquired again.
"I think there is an accident, I am trying to visualize it" Maths lied and turned to leave but Davis held him back.
"I saw it all," Davis smirked.
"What are you talking about?" He asked, bemused.
"Someone said he doesn't like water," Davis teased.
Maths stared at him, Infuriated, "Did you see me?" He implored.
"I heard the cute word, Are-you-okay?"
Maths scoffed, "Rascal, I would have done the same thing to anyone. Make no mistake in concluding things man and I never said I hated water."
Davis burst into laughter. He laughed so hard that Maths felt irritated, "You even did the drowning first aid".
"Save it, man." Maths uttered outrageously and scrambled away.
Davis watched as he walked down the stairs, a strain of smile curved on his lip.
"I caught you man." He muttered to himself.
"He's got no time for you." Shed whispered behind him.
"Sheddy! Did you see that?" Davis called as turned to face Shed.
"No, no, I saw nothing."
"Dumbass." Davis cursed.
"Rascal." Shed cursed back, taking his turn to laugh.
"Rogue's." Davis cursed them both.
"Save it, man, your lies are more devilish." Shed teased.
"Get out of my way!" Davis commanded harshly and pushed past him.
"Tch, tach, sorry man!" Shed apologized and followed him behind.
She opened her eyes lazily as she could feel the heat from her body even in her sleep.
"You are awake?" A fair beautiful lady asked.
She took in the view of where she was, "It's the hospital." She thought.
"Are you cold? Do you feel pain inside your body?" The nurse patiently inquired about her.
She gazed at her and directed her eyes to her wobbled stomach, she was pregnant. "I feel feverish." She answered, trying to get up.
"Okay, hold on for some minutes, I'll get the doctor." She ensured and rushed out of her ward.
She tried recollecting what had happened but she could only view me laying down on the ground beside the swimming pool. Someone was asking if she was okay and urged me!
"Could it be that the cute boy I saw before drowning saved me?" She thought, hardly.
Just then, the door to her ward opened and the doctor rushed in, together with the pregnant nurse.
She checked her pulse and examined her body temperature.
"Are you cold?" He asked.
"No sir." She answered sheepishly.
"Alright then, you only got a fever. I'll prescribe some drugs for you to take home and make sure you don't try holding onto your breath again, it could get worse than this."
She nodded.
"Julianne, please come to my office for her papers." The doctor referred me to the nurse.
"Yes, Mr Sam." He answered while he took his leave.
"I'll remove the drip now, please be calm." she relayed to me.
She watched as she carefully removed the empty drip from her left hand.
"Ma?" She called.
"Call me Julianne." She corrected her.
"Julianne, can I know who brought me here? What time is it now?" She inquired as she remembered the competition.
"We received an emergency call and rushed down to your school. We got there and found you lying on the couch. No one else was there with you, so we called the school authorities and brought you down to the hospital", Julianne explained. "And the time has passed one, you can't make it to the competition, whereas you are still feverish, getting into the water again might be dangerous".
"Thanks for the information, when can I get discharged?" She asked woefully.
"Not until a relative comes to pick you up," Julianne replied.
"I would like to call my dad."
"You can use the phone next to your bed," She said, pointing at the phone on the table beside my bed.
"Thanks!" She muttered, gently.
She took her sterilized equipment and left the room while she dialed my dad's number which transmit immediately.
"Hello, Mr Thompson speaking?" Her dad greeted her from the other end.
"Dad, it's me, Angela."
"Heyyyy baby girl, how're you doing?"
"I'm okay dad but right now I'm at the hospital." She delivered.
"Is everything alright?"
"Yes I'm fine now, just got a slight fever, can you pick me up?"
"Sure, I'll be right there, send me the location." He told her and hung up.
After a couple of minutes, she was already seated inside her dad's car waiting for him to finish up with the doctor. She felt so nervous about the competition that she was about to miss it. Her dad entered the car, ignited the car key and started off home.
"The doctor said you can't swim for some days." Her dad relayed.
"Dad?"
"Yes, honey."
"Take me back to school." She mumbled as it came out like a command.
"What for?" Dad asked worriedly.
"I still want to compete."
"What?!" He exclaimed, alarmed.
"Right now dad, ten minutes left!" She let out hastily.
"No, you can't get into the water, for now, the doctor will make sure I don't let you into the pool".
"Dad!" She squealed, "Please!" He looked at her puzzled
"Please, dad." She pleaded again, this time giving him a puppy look. He exhaled hard, wheeled his steering and turned left back to her school. She heaved a sigh of relief.
