Chereads / Mated to Gods / Chapter 15 - Beckett

Chapter 15 - Beckett

I didn't trust Luka for one minute. He was a chaos type God and I didn't trust his intention with my mate. And no, it had nothing to do with the fact that I wanted to spend this class getting to know Katrina better. I felt like her relationship was progressing quicker with the others than it was with me. Miles had an advantage over the rest of us. He met Katrina at our club and rescued her. The there was Aphelion the natural born charmer, the pretty boy, every girl fell for him so it wasn't surprising when Katrina grew closer with him this morning. And Samael had the dark brooding thing that all women seemed to love, I'm sure he managed to make up with Katrina this morning in class. Then there was me, the shy quiet guy. Whenever Katrina was near I seemed to get tongue tied and couldn't think of what to say.

"Uhh Beckett," Adriana called disturbing my thoughts, "Could you help me, I can't seem to master shielding. Every time I try to block Ajax his power seeps through."

I swear that woman had no sense at all. There was a reason Luka had teamed us up with the opposite skill type as us. Regular shielding wouldn't work. With Ajax's earth kingdom gifts, he would be able to demolish a water shield without hesitation.

"Water shields won't work against earth types." I replied, controlling the urge to roll my eyes, reminding myself that I was the heir to the water kingdom and I needed to treat my citizens with respect.

Adriana looked at me confused. She only had a sliver of divine power, she was maybe one sixteenth God if not less than that. I wasn't sure why the academy had invited her. Her tiniest amount of power wouldn't have made a difference around the mortals. The mortals would've assumed she had a water affinity, they would chalk it up to the elements, maybe even call her a Wiccan. But the council had determined that any one showing any amount of a God given gift was to attend the academy.

"How about we show them a real match?" Piped up Penelope, daughter of Gaea, a demigod, also Miles' ex betrothed. Miles' wasn't Penelope's type and she was very much in love with her girlfriend Brynn, who happened to be one of Miles' many half siblings. Gaea and Ares were more than happy to have their two children in a relationship. If something were to happen to Miles then Penelope and Brynn had a strong chance at ruling the Earth Kingdom together.

I smirked at Penelope, she was just the distraction I needed. If my thoughts kept roaming to Katrina and Luka I would go mad."Sure, You know I am always up for the challenge."

Aella of the Sky Kingdom and Dade of the Underground kingdom merged their powers together creating an invisible shield that would block Penelope's and my powers from leaving the dueling circle we had created but allow the other students to watch our battle.

"In real life situations you won't know when or what your opponent is going to strike with but in this simulation Penelope and I are going to call out what our plan of attack is and what we plan on countering the other opponents attack with. We want this to be a teaching example. There are many reasons we train as hard as we do. One of them is to protect ourselves against the attacks of other kingdoms, another is to learn how to protect ourselves if ever the titans escape the nether, and then there is another darker situation that cannot be discussed at this time." I tell the class, enhancing my voice and putting my power of authority behind it, "You can attack first." I tell Penelope.

Penelope stance changes in the circle, I know she is going to cause an earthquake even before she tells the class her intentions. I draw on my powers to counter her earthquake with a tsunami. The magnitude of her earthquake is strong making that of my tsunami even stronger. Wave after wave crashes into Penelope, I don't let up waiting for her to either signal defeat or find a way to fend off my attack. Penelope does not let me down, she easily counters my attack by forming a mountain, effortlessly climbing to the peak, before summing a mudslide that comes crashing down into my waves. I am quickly covered in mud, that she then tries to harden into a rock, I am too quick for her capture though, causing a sudden downpour of rain that leads to a monsoon.

"Very good." Luka's voice calls interrupting my thoughts, my monsoon coming to an erupt stop allowing Penelope the chance to encapsulate me in the earth.

My eyes shoot over to my mate. Katrina seems okay, except her aura now has a silvery glow to it. I grit my teeth as anger clouds my vision. I can hear the power of the sea around me, but I don't care. The only thing I want to do right now is destroy my professor. He had linked his powers with my mate. His aura was entangled with her own now.

"Beckett," Katrina calls running to me, it is only then that I notice Aella and Dade have dropped the barrier and that I have broken through the earth Penelope used to encapsulate me. "Beckett," Katrina calls again as she walks towards me, seemingly unaffected by the amount of power radiating from me, "you need to stop this before you regret your actions."

"He took advantage of you." I growled. "He mated you without your consent."

"THAT'S NOT WHAT HAPPENED BECKETT!" She yells at me as her eyes begin to swirl with all four elements of the kingdoms. In one of her eyes the elements are melded with white, the other eye the elements are melded with black.

I can sense her power growing, the angrier she's getting at me the stronger her powers are growing, I need to stop her before she accidentally hurts someone but I cannot contain the anger I feel swirling around me. It's like another spirit, something dark and demonic has taken over my body. My water affinity continues to grow stronger, wave after wave shooting from my body, until the entire classroom is filled with sea water, thankfully students from the air kingdom have created for their fellow classmates. Katrina continues to walk to me, the sea parting for her recognizing her as it's true Queen. I feel my hand beginning to rise against my will, my palm facing outwards towards Katrina, I watch helplessly as acid rain begins to surge through my body, the power rushing towards my mate. Katrina raises her hand effectively creating a shield blocking the rain, it evaporates the instant it hits her shield. Katrina now has a heavenly aura around her, her body surrounded by a white pure light. She closes the distance between us and embraces me, her lips capturing mine. The moment we touch I can feel the darkness being thrown from my body, the sweet sound of the ocean waves once again filling my soul. I hold Katrina tightly against me, deepening our kiss, pouring every emotion I feel for her into that kiss, before I pull away from her.

Katrina has somehow managed to call all of my power into her body, the classroom once again spotless. The class looking at Katrina with amazement in their eyes. Luka is starring directly behind us, anger and confusion swirling in his eyes. I turn around to take a look at whatever Luka is watching. There is a mysterious black sludge swirling around, I can sense a life form inside the sludge but it's something I have never seen before. Katrina turns to face me, noticing my distraction.

"What the hell is that?" She asks.

"I don't know." I respond.

"It's something that shouldn't exist anymore." Luka replies, "A darkness that was thought to have been destroyed a long time ago."

"That thing. It was inside of me. It took control of my body. What has that amount of power that it can control a full blooded God?" I ask Luka, not taking my eyes of the sludge.

The sludge starts to slither like a snake away from us, heading towards our classmates. Katrina lifts her hand once again, sending a small surge of heavenly light towards the sludge disintegrating it on impact.

"Cancel your next class." I tell Luka, "We need to speak with the others, and I need you to explain what ever that was."

"My next period is my free period. However I must warn you Beckett, the closer I am to your mate, the more likely this bond will solidify." Luka says looking at Katrina. I can't help but notice the fire in his eyes when he looks at her, he wants her just as much as my cousins and I do.

"It's a risk, I'll have to take. I cannot jeopardize the safety of the kingdoms because I am jealous of sharing my mate with yet another person." I reply, taking Katrina's hand in mine looking at her hoping that she'll understand my reasoning.

"I'll try to prevent it as best as I can." Luka replies, "I would never force a bond onto someone against their will." He growls glaring at me.

"Listen man," I respond as I run my hand through my hair my cheeks tinging pink with embarrassment, "About what I said earlier."

Luka interrupts me, "Save it for later, the quicker we inform the others of what's going on the quicker we can come up with a solution.
