Beckett was right. The moment I felt the sea air hit my face, I felt a sense of peace that I hadn't felt since learning that I had killed Grace and Jack. Watching Beckett teach his class and how he moved from one form to the next was like watching the waves crash into each other, absolutely mesmerizing.
I was a little worried about coming out with Beckett this morning. I knew he saw all demons as monsters, and I wasn't sure what it would do to our relationship, but it doesn't seem to bother him, and if it does, he hasn't commented on it yet. I know we will have to talk about his views on demons, but right now, I want to enjoy the calming sounds of the waves crashing into each other.
"I told you, you would enjoy it," Beckett remarks as he comes up behind me and wraps his arms around my waist.
I let my head fall back against his shoulder as I stare at the water on the bottom of the cliff. "I didn't picture you as an I told you so kind of guy."
"There's a lot you don't know about me, Darling," Beckett replies, his thumb running circles around the exposed skin on my waist.
"You're mysterious like the ocean, but don't worry shark boy, I'll uncover all the secrets you have hidden."
"Nope, Nope, Nope! Not. This is where I draw the line." Beckett hollers as he spins me around, forcing me to face him.
I smile up at him batting my eyelashes at him innocently, "Whatever do you mean?"
"Shark boy is a no-go; pick a different name." He replies, trying to keep a stern look on his face.
"But the name is so fitting. People believe sharks are these horrible monsters out for blood and will harm anyone on sight. They're misunderstood, just like you. You're caring and protective. Hence the reason Shark boy is sticking, and there's nothing you can do about it!" I say, sticking my tongue out at him.
Beckett's mouth comes crashing down hard against my own. His kiss is rough and fierce, like the waves during a storm. He pulls me tightly against him as if he's scared I'll try to run away, but he needs not worry. I'm not going anywhere. I can feel it in my soul that I am right where I belong. When Beckett finally pulls away, we're both breathless.
"Don't think that kiss has changed my mind; you will forever be my shark boy." I tease, smiling up at him.
Beckett gets this wild look that makes me want to bolt, but my body reacts too slow; before I can turn out of his grasp, he has me in his arms, and he's running for the cliff's edge. I scream the entire way down until we plummet into the ocean below. When I come up above the water, I am gasping for air.
I want to yell and be mad at Beckett for scaring me, but I can't. I am too distracted by how the water feels against my skin; it's like a slight vibration, almost like someone is humming against me.
"Do you feel that?" Beckett asks, whispering in my ear as he comes up behind me, pulling me into his arms.
"Yes, what is it? I've never felt like this in the water before. This sensation is completely new." I reply, hoping Beckett has an explanation for this feeling
"It's the creatures of the ocean. They're welcoming their Queen home. Once we are fully mated, you'll be able to understand what they're saying." Beckett replies, his breath hot on my skin.
"And what do they want now?" I ask, hoping he doesn't notice how husky my voice has gotten; just the thought of mating with Beckett has my core clenching. If I weren't already wet, my panties would be damp with the dirty thoughts running through my mind.
"They're beckoning you to the city of Atlantis. They want to watch as you take your seat on the throne. They want to meet the beauty who stole the heart of the dark, mysterious Sea God."
"Wait?? You're not shitting me. Atlantis is real? It's not just some kid's cartoon movie?" I ask, feeling excited; if it weren't for class starting soon, I'd be begging Beckett to take me there immediately.
"Yes, the underwater city is real. It's where I grew up." Beckett says as I turn to stare at him wide-eyed.
"Will you take me there one day?" I ask, gazing into Beckett's beautiful cerulean eyes.
"As soon as you're ready to, darling, I can't wait to take you home," Beckett replies before leaning down and placing his lips tenderly against mine; while this kiss is less passionate than the one prior, I feel more emotions from Beckett through this kiss than I have since I met him.
I smile against his lips, "you're a pretty good kisser, shark boy."
"You aren't too bad yourself, darling," He replies as he holds me in his arms and walks back to shore, "thanks for coming out with me today; it's been great to spend some alone time with you."
"It's a shame this morning passed by so quickly. I had a lot of fun."
"It's okay; we have a lifetime ahead of us to spend together," Beckett replied, bringing yet another smile to my face.
As an orphan, knowing that you'd have someone to spend the rest of your life meant was like a fairytale come true. I not only had one person but four people who've committed to spend forever with me. How had I been blessed with such a wonderful life?
"Will you spend tonight with me?" I asked Beckett nervously as he set me down on the sand.
"I'd love to; any moment I spend with you is a blessing, even if it's just spent lying in bed and holding you tight."
Beckett and I walk the rest of the way back up to campus hand in hand; the walk is silent, but it isn't awkward; it's a comfortable kind of silence. When we reach the campus, it is full of life as the other students go to the cafeteria for brunch. I turned to head back into our dormitory to change but was shocked to learn our clothes had already dried.
"It's yet another water trick, remind me, and I'll teach it to you. It's pretty nifty to have on a rainy day." Beckett states as he heads towards the cafeteria.
When we reach the cafeteria doors, we hear shouting.
"How could you mate with her, Aphelion! You're my intended. The union hasn't even officially been called off yet." Hilda shrieked.
"Hilda, calm down." Aphelion replies, "you're causing a scene."
"A scene!" Hilda yells, "you're worried about me causing a fucking scene!" Maybe you should have worried about that before you fooled me."
"Listen, Hilda," Aphelion responded calmly, "I never intended to hurt you; I've always made it clear that she'll come first if I find my mate, no matter the circumstances."
"I was supposed to be Queen!" Hilda hisses, "I've had to spend every free moment of my life learning to be a proper Queen. Everything I've been taught was to have a future with you. Now some nobody shows up, and you expect her to lead your kingdom."
"She is my mate Hilda; we were destined by the fates to rule together," Aphelion replied.
I could tell by the look on his face that he was beginning to lose his patience, but Aphelion had made this mess on his own, and I wasn't about to try and help him clean it up. I had already had more of Hilda than I could take; I already know my next interaction with her won't be pleasant. I'm done putting up with her shit and how she talks to me. She's skating on thin ice, and she's about to come crashing through into the icy cold water below.
I walk to our table and see Samael and Miles talking in hush tones. When I reach the table, they instantly go quiet. Samael stands up from the table and gives me a tight hug before placing a quick kiss on my lips.
"I was expecting you to go rescue Phel from Hilda's clutches," Samael states as he pulls out the chair beside him, gesturing for me to sit down.
"He's a big boy; he can take care of himself," I respond, taking a seat and grabbing an apple off Samael's plate.
Miles grumbles something inaudible, but he still doesn't raise his head to greet me. I'm tired of his silent treatment, and I'm getting ready to tell him as much, but I lose the opportunity when he abruptly stands up from the table, causing his chair to squeak against the linoleum floor. "I have something to do before class." He says to no one in particular before he turns and walks straight out of the cafeteria,
"What crawled up his ass and died? "I ask before I take a bite out of the apple.
"Miles has always had a hard time sharing. He's upset that you chose Aphelion first. He thought he had an advantage over all of us since you already had a connection, and it hurt him that you decided not to bond with him the first night and chose Aphelion the next." Samael states as he finishes off his pancake.
I try to hide my annoyance. Miles pretends he's okay with the four of us being mates, but as soon as I do something with one of the others, he throws a fucking hissy fit, "well, he's just going to have to get used to it." I reply, "If he thinks his attitude will make me want to bond with him next, he's sorely mistaken."
Samael chuckles at my response and doesn't say anything else on the subject.
"So, how are we getting to the underworld on Friday?" I ask, wanting to change the subject from Miles.
"We're going to take a portal. Simmons has one in his office." Samael replies as he polishes off the rest of his breakfast.
"Do you normally portal?"
"Uh no. Usually, I fly down."
"Fly?" I look at him with a confused expression.
"Yeah, did you think you're the only one with wings?" He replies, a slight grin on his face.
"You have wings! When were you planning on telling me?"
"Well, I didn't want to scare you off. But if you want to see them sometime, I'll show you. They're rather large, so we'll have to be outside when I show you."
"Why can't we just fly down?" I ask.
"I haven't taken anyone down with me before, and I want to practice partner flying more before I try to take you through hells gate." As he gets up from the table, he responds, "I'll walk with you to class, and we can talk some more."
We continue talking as we make our way to class; today seems to be going smoothly until I learn that we're learning about the demon Lilith today in class. I look over at Samael, and he's glaring daggers at the professor, but if the professor notices, he doesn't seem to care.
