Chapter 23 - I Wonder?

I did keep my word as I gave both bandits a proper burial.

Dig a hole, put the body in, make a torch, burn, then cover in soil. Quick and simple.

I couldn't even take their gear.

They were dull, rusted in some spots, and even when I found the spear I saw that the spear head was broken.

They were bottom of the barrel bagin rack weapons. Even their armor wasn't all that salvageable.

"Good thing he told me that there wouldn't be another scouting party for about a few hours. But still they'll probably send out a quick party to see what happened. Well at least I should know the direction that they're coming from." I stretched a little as I put away my Black Wood Steel Shovel.

I left the area as I went to the direction slightly off from where the bandit pointed towards as I didn't want to run into the scouts.

'Should also try to get me some decent armor when I can. I'd rather not die because I didn't protect myself.' I said mentally as I carefully went through the forest. 'Plus I should still be vigilant since a random beast might try to make me their lunch.'

The Red Boar Bandits.

A small and notorious group that have been harassing residents near the Eastern Black Forest, hunters, newbie adventures, and even dipped their hand into human trafficking when it suits them.

Leading them was currently Big Red Boar or Big Red. A towering fierce, brutal, and from what First Brother told me, not that smart.

The only reason he leads is because he is the strongest in the group. Even his two Vice-Leaders, Little Red Boar and Little Boar couldn't compare to him in strength. Luckily they didn't have that many members because of Big Reds management as they kept to around if not below fifty members at one time.

"Still their Red Boar Riders might be more of a problem if they are in the open, but if I am able to draw them into the forest then it should cut down on mobility. But I still wouldn't be able to take all of them out." I smiled slightly as I started to laugh a little.

"I'm not some main protagonist in a novel, I'd die trying. And I highly doubt Ulrich would come and save me."

I continued to move through the forest for what seemed like a little over an hour and a half before I started to hear a low rumbling noise and even some sounds of the animals and beasts yelling.

I stopped as I looked for the nearest tree that I could climb and get as close as possible without being noticed.

"They are earlier than what I thought. Did they send a different unit or was First Brother telling the truth earlier, when he said I would regret it?" I mumbled to myself as I found a good tree to climb. "He didn't say anything about who he was or like that… so what's going on?"

The rumbling sound continued to get louder and louder as it neared. Even the yelling or screaming of the animals and beasts became louder as the rumbling started to shake the nearby trees.

"Ok, who in the Gods, were they!? Please don't tell me they were actual blood brothers to Big Red. Or were they close to one of the Vice Leaders? No, that doesn't make sense. Because if they were close then they should have at least been stronger or possibly better geared." I said aloud as I saw the trees in the distance starting to shake.

My mind started to go in the direction that whoever they were had to be someone close to the top. It even started to cement itself further when I started seeing a massive outline starting to form.

Even the tree I was in started to shake as whatever was nearing became visible.

"Damn, he, big."

I couldn't help but say when I saw a massively tall human riding atop of a one tusked battle scarred Red Boar, that fit the rider perfectly.

He was also being followed by a group decked out in Red Boar gear. Riding battle hardened looking Red Boars.

But what confused me a little was when I noticed the expressions between who I knew to be Big Red and the Red Boar Riders.

"That's odd. The Red Boar Riders seemed more worried then Big Red. If anything Big Red looks pleased." I said quietly as I tightened my grip on the branch that I was on. "I should move as quickly as I can in order to distance myself. Because I'm pretty sure whoever I buried was close to the big guy. And he won't be happy when he finds the graves."

I felt a little disappointment as my fishing trip ended a little early, as I'd rather not be in the forest when Big Red unleashes his wrath.

But just as the tree was just starting to shake less another thought popped into my head as I started to rub my chin.

"Well Ulrich's notes did say that Big Red was known for fits of rage, killing those around him. But it did say that it only happens on the worst occasions. Maybe there's a chance I could still get something from this fishing trip."

I started to smile as a very insane and crazy idea started to form in my head.

And when I continued to think about my crazy and insane idea the more and more it started to make sense as I turned to look in the direction of Big Red.

"I doubt that he would care about a few missing bodies. Shoot, I should have to take them all. I wonder what would happen if I tried to give them a proper burial?"

A confident smile formed on my face as the more I looked in the direction of the grave, and the more I thought. And the more that I thought it felt right.

The moment the tree stopped shaking I didn't get down as I noticed that a good amount of animals and beasts started to come out from the shadows of the trees as they started to head back to their own territory.

Not knowing of the possible danger of Big Reds rage when he finds out just who was in the two graves.

"No, don't get too greedy Bastion." I shook my head as I had a quick thought of trying to also take any of the beast's corpses as well. "I should be satisfied with whatever I gain from today's fishing trip. There should be at least one good trophy to show off."

I smiled as I waited for the beasts to pass.
