Chapter 27 - The Beginning of a Game.

I will say that the citizens of the Otihame Kingdom had a wide variety of expressions to make when they saw Sivath.

Some had expressions of shock, surprise, disgust, anger, fear, disbelief, panic, anxiety, and screaming. One of them even puked, which I thought was very rude.

There wasn't even one person who seemed to see Sivath the way I saw her. As a gorgeous creature who could easily take a chunk out of me with ease. But she didn't seem to mind at all. All she did was just lay on my shoulder and hiss on occasion for a periodic antennae scratch.

The driver who took us back to Ulrich's Domain was probably the most nonchalant about it. The horses on the other hand didn't think so until Sivath issued an angry low sounding hiss. Which seemed to calm them down in a way.

But when the driver asked why his horses sounded scared and I told him why, he seemed surprised.

"Huh, didn't notice. Just thought you gained a lot of weight. Well nice to meet you Sivath. I'm the Blind Driver."

"Wait… you're blind!?" I said with shock in my voice.

"Yeah, been that way since birth. But with hard work and a lot of experience I've been able to follow my passion. Being a Driver." The Blind Driver said with pride as he continued. "So is she an Ice Fox, Five Poison Snake, or an Earth Lizard?"

I smiled as I shook my head. "Well you'll hear no complaints from me, that's why I came back. Even better than the Duke's escort in my opinion. And no, Sivath is an insect. A centipede actually. Everyone else seemed upset or something, I don't know why."

The Blind Driver seemed to frown for a moment as he spoke in a confused manner. "Well I don't know why they would do that, it just seems rude." Then he spoke in a slightly happy manner. "And did I really do better than the Duke's Driver?"

"Yeah, it was very smooth and enjoyable." I answered with a smile as I had an interesting idea start to form as I asked for his fee to take me to Ulrich's Domain. I even asked if I could sit next to him to talk.

Lets just say we both had a very good talk during the trip back to Ulrich's Domain. I even got to know of some of the Blind Drivers experiences.

It was as you might have expected in the beginning. A lot of crashes, broken bones. Been robbed more times than he could count. But he never let that get him down and moved on.

Then later on he was even able to find hidden paths, defend his carriage with precision, and some of his past clients.

I even told him about my recent fishing trip.

He just nodded… I don't know what to do with man, that kinda hurts a little. Don't people like fishing? I'll just have to have a better fishing story for next time then.

Then as we neared Duke Heerwagon's outer territory. I finally asked the question that had been brewing in my mind as I asked to stop as I wanted to walk the rest of the way to Ulrich's Domain.

"Would you like to be my personal Driver? I'll even pay you five thousand gold a month or more if it is necessary?" I asked with a smile as the Blind Driver slowly moved to the side of the road and came to a stop in complete silence as he slowly turned to look at me.

"Who are you sir? Didn't you say you dig graves." The Blind Driver asked in a curious manner.

I laughed as I got off the carriage and answered.

"I'm just a lucky Grave Digger my Blind Driver."

The Blind Driver just laughed as he agreed to be my personal driver. He just asked to give him a couple of days to finalize some things. And that he would be back here after he was done.

I just agreed as I started to head in the direction of the Shack. As the Blind Drive went off in the opposite direction to finalize some things.

"Well let's see what has happened since I've been away. Not much should have happened, I've only been gone for maybe… what, two days?"

I asked Sivath who didn't reply as it looked like she had fallen asleep just as we arrived near the Duke's territory.

I just shrugged as I walked to the outer gate and joined a decent sized line that started to form. But for some reason the line didn't notice or mind Sivath. Then when I looked to notice why I saw that she had somehow camouflaged herself to blend with my robe.

I just smiled as I started to look up just as the guards of the outer gate asked for us to move as they started to slowly lower their spears.

Everyone in the front of the line didn't want to get stabbed as they started to immediately make room for the person who was leaving.

I seemed to be lucky as I was near the end. I even found a nice spot to sit as it would take a while as word came back saying that it was some noble that had been visiting for the past couple of days.

"Huh, just as I was leaving? That seems odd… why does that seem odd?" I spoke aloud as the gates opened as a decent sized escort of the noble started its leave from Duke Heerwagons territory.

When I noticed the carriage I was kinda impressed as it definitely showed that it was from a noble household. It wasn't gaudy or anything but you could tell from the craftsmanship that it was made from high-quality materials.

"Huh, that's amazing craftsmanship, I wonder what wood they used for it?" I said silently when I seemed to notice that the noble's escort was slowing down. "That's weird, if they come to a full stop the carriage will stop right in this area."

I was right as a very finely crafted, Ebony wood carriage with a thin painting of white on the edges. There was even a very simple coat of arms of a sword and shield.

But when the carriage door opened, a man wearing blue and green refined looking clothes walked out of the carriage with a smile on his face, but the look in his eyes told how he really felt as he looked angry.

He was followed by two others who wore similar clothes but of different colors, but the look on their faces seemed to be different as they looked distracted as they kept looking back in the carriage from time to time.

"You there! The one sitting! Are you the Baron, Bastion the Grave Digger?!" The one with an angry look in his eyes yelled out as he pointed at me.

I just nodded my head as I answered with slight confusion. "Yeah that's me, why? Who's asking?"

"Good, you've kept the daughter of the Arch-Duke Mittag waiting for two days. But it seems that she still wishes to meet with you. So you should be kind and I suggest you apologize for making her wait." The one with anger in his eyes spoke in a I'm better than you manner.

"Well for one I just sat down from a very long trip so if she wants I invite her to take a seat with me. And I'm kind to those that show me kindness, plus I don't think I need to apologize for something I had no knowledge of."

I smiled as I patted the empty spot next to me just as the one who spoke face started to turn red with rage before an elegant yet firm voice called out from inside the carriage.

"That's enough Walter, I don't mind."
