Chapter 14 - Broken Thread of Fate

Noah stared at the screen in front of him as though it controlled the access to everyone's browser history, including what one searched on incognito.

He knew that the legacy sounded bad from its name but who could've thought that he wouldn't have a legacy at all.

Unless…

'Infirma.' Noah hurriedly dismissed the legacy screen and opened the Infirmas screen instead.

His eyes parted slightly in shock as two simple yet horrific words awaited him on the Infirma screen.

[ Infirmas: Two ]

Upon further opening the two Infirmas, only pain awaited Noah.

[ Shackled To Time: Prevents you from accessing your stats due to breaking the law of time. You can still progress further yet you can no longer use stat points. ]

[ Broken Thread of Fate: Your fate is mysterious. No one knows what will happen to you. As a result, your meter of luck is broken and you might face unknown amounts of luck or bad luck at random times. ]

As if the situation wasn't already bad enough, the second Infirma felt like the last nail in the coffin.

'Wait, it doesn't really matter if I get to see my stats or not.' After the initial shock had passed away, Noah rationally thought about his two Infirmas.

Neither of them stopped him from using his powers to the fullest nor did they permanently handicap him.

Though Noah could no longer increase his stats in the normal way, it wasn't that big of a problem.

Using stats points to increase one's strength was fast yet one would still have to practice a lot to let their body get used to the feeling of such power.

Noah didn't have to worry about that anymore as he would be increasing his body's stats naturally from the start.

'Perhaps this is a blessing hidden in the form of a curse. As for that second Infirma…' Noah couldn't help but eye the second Infirma again.

Broken thread of fate…

The first set of description was all right for Noah yet the luck part was what he felt uneasy about. He knew that both Infirmas and legacies were never straightforward most of the time.

Perhaps his Infirma would turn out to have a hidden meaning too.

'For now, I just have to pass the exams and figure out how to take mom to the academy with me.' Noah shook his head clear once, shifting his focus back to the goals he had to accomplish.

Erika was a pretty powerful woman and he could leave her behind yet Noah knew that he would feel uneasy if she wasn't close to him.

Having lost her once, Noah knew how painful it was to see one's parent die.

'I wonder how Izzy handled her father's death.' Noah's eyes shifted to his best friend who was looking at the stage with bored eyes.

Izzy's father had died when she had been ten years old, leaving her mother with the responsibility of handling two children.

Noah's mother had helped her back then and the two families had become good friends back then. Noah still remembered…

'She isn't here.' He suddenly stood up, his eyes taking a look around the auditorium.

Izzy's mother was nowhere to be seen despite telling her daughter that she would return soon.

"Noah?" Erika, noticing her son's alert expression, stood up with a wary look.

"Mom, Izzy's mother, and her brother are not here." Noah didn't waste any time and told her the truth.

Erika's gaze swept over the entire auditorium once, realizing that her son was telling the truth.

The mother-son pair then looked at Izzy who was looking at them in confusion.

"We can't leave her here," Erika muttered before looking at Noah once. Her gaze then shifted over to Zuki and a few other principals, hatred gleaming behind her usually calm eyes.

"Then we will take her with us," Noah replied a few seconds later as Erika nodded.

"Izzy come here." She gestured for the girl to stand up and she obeyed.

"What is happening?" Izzy inquired nervously yet neither Noah nor Erika replied.

The silence was mostly due to the fact that the three of them had suddenly vanished from their spot and had appeared directly outside Isabella's house.

"Don't ask how." Noah declared after Erika and Izzy had realized where they were. "I am sure that they have a sensory mage checking the surroundings."

The question Izzy was about to ask died in her throat. Izzy wasn't dumb so it only took her a few seconds to add two and two together to figure out what was happening.

Her expression hardened immediately as the three teleported once again.

Noah had to direct them to a location he knew well, which was of course Izzy's bedroom as they had spent a huge amount of quality time there.

"Uh Noah, can you please not look back for some time?" Izzy suddenly asked awkwardly, making Noah feel curious.

"Any reason?" he inquired while walking up to the door of her room.

"It's just that my underwear is lying on the bed…" Izzy coughed a bit as Noah's lips curled up slightly.

"As you say." He replied before turning the doorknob open and peeking outside.

Erika did the same thing as the pair searched for any type of clues. Izzy on the other hand quickly scooped her clothes, threw them under her bed, and made her way to the duo.

"Bedroom," Noah whispered once before walking outside, the two women following him silently.

The trio made their way to Izzy's mother's bedroom, their pace increasing with every passing second as the house was much bigger than Noah's house.

The hallway was dimly lit and the bedroom they were going to was situated on the second floor, only accessible by a flight of stairs situated at the end of the hallway.

Noah knew that teleporting above would be much quicker and more efficient. However, his head ached a bit after the two rapid teleportations, making Noah cautious about using it again.

The symptoms were the same as what he had experienced in his previous life, just after he had learned how to teleport.

He had ended up passing out after four rapid teleportations, though his body had been much stronger back then.

'I just need to reach a closer distance and I can teleport then.' Noah noted mentally.

Though he did use wind magic on his feet so that he would be walking just a bit above the stairs and wouldn't cause any noise.

Erika and Izzy did the same thing as him simultaneously as though they had formed a plan. Though the truth was that they had already expected something like this.

Izzy was struggling a bit with that as she had never used her magic under this much pressure before.

However, with Erika's guidance, the three of them swiftly managed to reach the second floor. Noah finally got a good look of the place before staring directly at the Izzy's mother's bedroom, the door hanging open by a crack.

Muffled sounds were making their way to the edge stairs, belonging to Izzy's mother as well as her younger brother.

Erika had to cautiously place her hand on Izzy's shoulder to make sure that the girl didn't take any decision.

Contrary to her expectations, Izzy remained calm. Her eyes turned emotionless as her expressions were set into a poker face.

Noah, knowing that this was the perfect time to do something, suddenly teleported the three of them inside the room.

'So I can easily travel for a few meters without any problem.' Noah observed before taking a look inside the bedroom.

He saw Izzy's mother and brother being tied on the bed and a group of five men standing at the edge of the bed, who were looking straight at the newly arrived group.

"Who are you three?" one of them asked in a low tone.

Before any reply could come, the temperature in the room suddenly dropped by multiple degrees. It was as though someone had summoned a part of the ice age inside the house.

"Permafrost Circulus." Amidst the dropping temperature, a harsh low voice echoed around the house…
