Chapter 18 - Memories in Pictures

"So you are a spirit magician too huh." Noah replied, ignoring Erika's question.

The two of them instead stared into each other's eyes. A spark of power flashed behind their eyes, making the other smile slightly.

"Let's extract their cores quickly. We have to go to Izzy's house as well." Erika pulled away at last as the two of them got to work.

Noah extracted all of the cores one by one, all of which were A grade cores. Out of the six guys that had appeared on their door, half of them had been fire mages.

The remaining comprised of two wind mages and a single Earth mage, which was the most standard assassination unit, usually containing minor switches.

Noah looked at the cores in his hands for a few seconds before leaving the room.

He already had the cores from earlier stored in his pockets, which felt very awkward. Caring two large balls wasn't an easy task…

'I wonder what I can use them for though.' Noah mused as he couldn't use the cores to upgrade his stats or his legacy.

They were basically sitting useless in his hands.

'Well, selling them to the black market is always a good option.' He thought a second later while entering his room.

Noah placed the six cores down on his bed alongside the ones from earlier before starting his packing.

The first things he took were the pink phones and headphones, stuffing them in his school backpack alongside.

As for the books inside, he took them out at once and burned them with his flames, something that provided him with great satisfaction.

After doing the holy work of burning his school books, Noah scrounged the room for things that he needed.

He put them inside both his backpack and a black suitcase.

Noah was done in less than ten minutes as he eyed the empty room while passing a remark. "I never realized that my room barely has anything marking it as my personal space…"

The only belongings he was taking were his clothes, pillow and a few important books about the realm.

He was about to leave the room when he suddenly remembered one important thing that he had left behind.

"I almost left you here…" Noah murmured as he took out a small red album from the bottom of his closet.

He flipped to the first page to see picture of Erika holding an infant Noah in her arms, a look of happiness evident on her face.

His mother still looked the same eighteen years ago and her dressing sense hadn't changed much either.

She was wearing a white suit with golden designs on it, perhaps for the special occasion as Erika didn't like white clothes.

"I look too pure in them." She had replied when Noah had asked about her disliking towards white clothes. "They also get dirty way too quickly."

Noah chuckled after reminiscing that as he turned to the next page.

It was his first birthday and compared to most children, he looked happy during it and was pasting cake on Erika's face.

His mother in turn looked as though she wanted to throw him into the cake and barely refrained herself from it.

Fast forward a few pages, Noah found the picture taken at his elementary graduation ceremony.

'I look so weird there.' He facepalmed after seeing a younger version of himself staring at the camera with slightly wide open eyes and a bit too large of a smile.

Erika on the other hand looked as though she was proud of her son and had one of her hands on his head.

'We took one at the middle school graduation too. Sadly we couldn't take one this year.' Noah sighed as he flipped forward to the middle school graduation photo.

A smile appeared on his face when he saw that Izzy, Rebecca and her brother Alec were also present in the photo.

'I remember that mom and aunt had decided to take the photo together to prevent us from feeling the lack of a father. Their attempt was quite successful."

Noah continued to flip through the album, each photo reminding him of the things in the past.

'I guess its true that memories stored in pictures are one of the most nostalgic and wholesome things to look at.' He thought before reaching the last filled page of the album.

It was quite recent, perhaps taken a few months ago.

Noah was sitting under a cherry blossom tree with Erika right beside him. It was evident that both of them were happy despite the hard time Noah was having at his school.

"Ah…" Noah finally remembered where the photo was from.

Noah and Erika had gone out on a picnic after three years and had spent a week out of the city, exploring and traveling together.

Noah felt something inside him open up as he took the album and carefully placed it inside his backpack.

A binding of pages and pictures was now a priceless treasure for Noah. It helped him remember all the moments of happiness he had experienced over the years, making his life worth living.

"I guess I will have to extend this album in the future," Noah muttered while walking out of the room with his stuff.

Erika was waiting for him at her door and the smell of something burning was coming from her room.

"Took everything that you needed?" She inquired while stepping outside with him.

"I did." Noah replied as he saw Erika lock the door and turn away, a suitcase in each hand. "Are you ready to be telported?"

"Yeah, do th-" Erika began saying but suddenly paused. Due to the chaotic day they had had, something important had slipped out of her mind. "Noah, give me your stuff."

Noah did as asked and handed his suitcase to Erika, still keeping the bag slung over his shoulders as it contained sensitive stuff...

In front of him eyes, his suitcase as well as the pair of suitcases in Erika's hands vanished. Noah's gaze momentarily shifted over to a ring in his mother's right hand.

It was responsible for the vanishing of the luggage as it had the property of storing items inside it.

"We still need to buy you a phone. We'll go to Izzy's house after that. If they have any problem, they will have the time to call me this time." Erika spoke a moment later.

"I…" Noah was about to decline by saying that he would soon have the money to buy some himself yet stopped himself.

He remembered that he had tried to do the same thing in hid last life albeit using a different method.

Erika had agreed to his request at first but had still bought him a phone later on, one with a baby pink body and hearts drawn all over it.

She had bought it for good measure and Noah had no choice except buying it. At least he learned to accept gifts that way, whether he liked them or not.

"Let's go buy a phone." Noah sighed in the end as the two of them set out for an electronic shop.
