" What did you just say, you bastard? " Gavin, who was already embarrassed after falling down from the targeted pressure Ms. Loi gave to him, looks at me in extreme anger.
" Why? You think I'll just take your berating because I'm afraid of you? Why would I be scared of you, of all people? You might look and limp like a Shrieker, but you think you could fight me when you can't even beat a droid properly? " I say as I release all the pent-up anger in me.
" You think you're stronger than Winter when your ice is as puny as that. Or are you trying to impress her when a droid is literally better than you? " There's only one way to piss off someone with a huge ego like this guy: by rubbing his defeat in his face constantly.
" You dare... " Gavin clenches his fists as they shine blue and red, respectively, indicating he activated his ability.
" STOP! " Ms. Loi shouts at us as we prepare to fight each other.
" Urk..."
" If you really want to fight, I won't stop you, but if you fight right here right now, I'd fight you myself if you really want a fight." The same pressure she used earlier enveloped us, forcing us to stop our scuffle.
" Tsk. these arrogant bastards, why did I even accept this job? "
" If you guys are going to fight, do it through a duel contract." Ms. Loi activates her holic as she sends us a contract for us to fill out our terms on.
I don't really know how to write one as all that was written in the story was the middle man repeating the terms written on the contract and both sides' confirmation for the battle. I've never seen the actual paper and how it's written on it, so I'll just let him do all the work and do it that way.
" Why aren't you writing? Do you think this is a joke? After you guys fight, you know I'm coming for that rank of yours." Winter who has been quiet since long ago, started speaking. Was she also that interested in such a pointless rivalry between three people? Well, I guess it is Winter the Little Demoness, and it made less sense when she was all quiet during that confrontation.
Well, saying I don't know how to in this situation would just be extremely detrimental. But making up stupid excuses and arguing with Winter, was more detrimental. So I just closed my mouth and ignored the yap of Winter.
" Are you ignoring me? " Winter continues talking as I ignore her, even pulling up a hunting live stream to ignore the raising voice of Winter.
" You dare... " The atmosphere turned cold with Winter's face. Well, someone as talented, good-looking, and rich as her, grew up as someone who wasn't lacking any attention. People would be scurrying to talk to someone of her stature, trying to befriend her and elevate their status.
But there's a first time for everything.
" You darn *!&*$*&, you defect $@*&*%( " Winter started her usual rant as Ms. Loi stopped her from attacking me here and there.
It's quite shocking, you know. Someone as small as her could say such words, even adults would struggle to say.
" I'll hand it to you without giving a fight. I just want to make sure bugs stay below my feet. " Gavin smirks as he finishes writing the terms for the duel.
" Alright, so this here is just the regular. Don't step out of the ring. Any weapon is usable as long as it corresponds to your ability and is not illegal. This is an official duel, and the winner gets first place in the combat assessment rankings. And last is, uhh, no forfeits allowed? Fight until unconscious? " Ms. Loi reads the contract aloud for both of us to hear.
" I'm not allowing that. Any objections? " Ms. Loi says firmly. She asked us if there were no objections, but it was clear she wasn't going to accept them anyway.
" I accept, " I say quickly, not trying to get on Ms. Loi's bad side.
" Tsk. I accept. " Gavin soon followed, a little annoyed at how things didn't go according to his plan.
We head on over to the arena where we just fought the droids. The arena was half the size of the gymnasium, so it's still relatively wide. We were both close-range fighters, considering that I can't use my ability. It was actually really easy to sneak in and form an arm behind him, unseen by anyone, and shoot him that way, as my range in forming one is wider than his, so I could easily win this. The entire arena is also filled with mana particles due to Winter's attack from earlier, so this is quite possibly the easiest win there could be.
" So before you start, I'm here to remind you that this is an official duel, and failing to follow the general rules and the agreement formed here will result in severe consequences. " Ms. Loi stood at the side of the arena watching the fight unfold to make sure there wouldn't be foul play.
" Alright, it seems like we're all ready. The match will start in 3....2....1.... "
Since the arena is fairly large, moving as far as possible from Gavin would give me time and more openings to take advantage of. Then, when the moment I enter his range and he starts to attack, blinding him would give me an edge and I could probably strike as quickly as I could, ensuring a quick victory for me...
" GO! " Ms. Loi shouts, indicating the start of the duel.
...
" What are you doing? " Gavin stood in the same spot as he looked at me, not taking the first move. I was standing in the same place, which probably confused him.
" HAHAHA, did you get scared? Even if you ask for forgiveness here, you won't escape this unscathed. " Gavin laughs as a huge grin forms on his face.
" With your measly range? Do you really think you could beat me? " I say with a smile on my face.
" HAHAHA, what are you going to do, put mist in my eyes? " Gavin laughs even harder as his grin becomes wider.
" Alright, let's finish this quickly. I'm afraid Ms. Loi had a class to teach. " He said as his hands started to shine red and blue relative to his ability.
" Yeah, you're right. Let's finish this quickly... " I say, raising my hands to form a gun in his direction.
Isn't it a good time for its debut? Considering the personality of everyone here, there's no chance Kon figures it out anyways.
So with that in mind...
"Armaten! " I say as ten arms float behind me, pulsing with purple mana.
