Chapter 44 - Evil

So this is what being a 2* feels like...

The amount of Ki I had literally almost doubled the moment I ascended. Not only that, but I could also feel my Ki storage expand to almost quadruple its size. So this is why they say it just gets harder and harder to raise your rank the stronger you get.

Regardless, it's still an incredible upgrade, as I could pretty much activate about 18 arms successfully before passing out. Overall, a pretty decent upgrade.

Anyway, I'm incredibly tired as of now, so I should rest before doing anything else. I'll just spend the rest of my time sleeping, as tomorrow is not going to be an easy day, with the release of this news.

As I was getting ready to go out of the arena, the door suddenly burst open and Sol stood on the opposite side of it.

Sol? Why is he here? Isn't class still ongoing?

Well, as much as I want to interact and talk about the news about the demons, I'm way too tired that I could use some rest. Besides, even if the class was suspended, I'm sure he was here to train, not to speak to others.

As I walked towards him trying to exit the building, Sol, who was quiet as he headed towards the center of the arena, suddenly spoke out.

" Why did you do that?"

" What? " What does he mean by that? Did he see me beating up Gavin or something? Was he actually a great friend of his?

" Why did you portray yourself like that?" He mutters again as he looks at me with a serious gaze.

What the hell was this guy talking about? Is it about the news?

Well, that was answered quickly as Sol pulled out the article pertaining to the defeat of Toons on his Holic as he sent it to mine.

" Why did you give me all the credit?" He looks at me seriously.

I mean, it might look like he's just trying to give credit where it's due, but Sol couldn't care less about that. He's pretty closed off and untrusting, only driven by revenge. He's probably wondering if I was using him, as he thinks he's the only one who knows my ability, and I was hiding my power from the masses, giving him credit when he didn't earn it.

" Ha. Do you think I'll willingly give you the credit I worked hard to earn? " Smugly, I say.

" I'm not like you guys, who are incredibly strong and have rich families behind you. I'm only a 2* hunter who can barely fend off themselves. Do you think I'd survive if I was put at that level? " I say bluntly while hiding the specifics. I can't really say Kon was a demon, as demons aren't yet well known by the masses, considering that the government hid their ability to use human identities. Besides, Kon had that item he got from the Demon of Avarice, which hides his demonic aura and every resemblance a demon has.

He doesn't say anything back, but the same seriousness covers his face.

" Anyways, why are you even here? Aren't you supposed to be in class? Don't tell me you were that worried about my reputation that you came here. " I say sarcastically as I look at his serious face.

" Sir Kon dismissed us early, something about an important matter."

... Tsk, it seems like it's starting.

The news probably reached the higher-ups of the demon hierarchy, and it's about time Kon heard the news. I'm afraid this might be the start of Sol's hardships.

...

...

...

Somewhere in the middle of the ruins, the sky was dark and the rain poured wildly. Lightning strikes at different intervals, lighting up the dark ruins that used to be a city filled with innocent humans.

" You were given this position since you were raised as a human from the start." You were given the task of collecting information within the Hunting Department... " A tall, slender woman, wearing a black coat and a veil covering her face, stood in front of a broken window in an unidentified building. It might be raining, but it only helped in bringing out her soft yet incredibly menacing voice.

" I... I'm sorry madam... It's that Toons... I should've paid more attention to my slaves. " Another woman who was slim, wearing round glasses had her knees on the ground as she fails to complete a full sentence begging for her life from the woman in front of her.

Grrr...

" Relax boy, that's not an enemy. You don't have to worry. " The tall woman caresses the tail of what seems to be a humongous creature as it hides in the dark ruins.

...

"Gulp!" The woman kneeling on the floor's nervousness only continues to peak, as sweat starts forming on her temples.

The slender woman seemed to have noticed her nervousness as she turned to face the woman begging for mercy.

Thud... Thud...

The echoes of her footsteps spread throughout the empty room as they become louder and louder every time she takes a step.

Thud

She arrived exactly at the kneeling woman's front.

" Do you realize what you've just done?" She whispers as she brings her face next to the woman's ears.

" Yes, Maam. Yes... I-I understand... " Tears start to form in her eyes as the tall woman continues to stay next to her ear.

" DO YOU REALIZE YOU'VE JUST RUINED THE PLANS OF THE DEMONS AND EXPOSED US TO THE PUBLIC?! " The woman, who was relatively calm and silent, suddenly bursts into tears as screams escape her mouth as anger envelopes her. Her eyes started glowing bright red, with her pupils forming a cross.

" Yes... ma'am, please give me another chance." She couldn't do anything but kneel on the ground as tears fully dripped from her eyes. Her left ear, where the tall woman was, started to bleed due to the sheer sound her scream had just made.

" Please... " She murmurs.

The tall woman walks away from the crying woman as she looks at the broken window yet again, as the drops from the rain continue to hit the ground.

" Grrr... "

The beast roars yet again.

" She's not the enemy... She's your food. "

" Please... please!"

Lightning strikes the ground yet again, covering the screams of a woman and the rumbling of a gigantic beast.
