Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Prologue

This is an omegaverse story happening in a wolves' pack where people can shift from their human to wolf form. This fiction pairs traditional genders such as male or female with a "secondary gender" :

Alpha (α): socially (and in some interpretations, even biologically) dominant, physically built, often short-tempered and a natural leader;

Beta (β): depending on the story, they are regular human beings, or have a mix of Alpha and Omega traits, or their own unique traits;

Omega (Ω): submissive and gentle, calm and a peacemaker (usually)

One more thing English is not my first language so if you find mistakes pls be merciful with me

It was cold, I mean really cold. Nothing unusual for this time of the year, however Opal couldn't get used to it. Every year she had to face the same struggle. Shivering all over her body she fetched water from a half frozen creek nearby her hut. Two buckets were a heavy burden for the small framed Omega, thus she had no other option. Just one step after another. „Keep moving Opal '' she hissed to herself through clenched teeth. „If you want a hot bath you must bring some water," she often says to herself. Her own words motivated her for further action. She wasn't a lunatic weirdo talking to herself, she was just lonely. Hearing owns voice made her feel better. Ok, so maybe she was a weird lunatic.

Opal sighed with relief finally reaching the front door. She put the buckets down, spilling some water on the floor. She had to heat the water first to enjoy the pleasure of bathing. Some water was already boiling on the stove, the room was warm, filled with the sound of fire cracking and dimmed light coming from the only window in the room.

The whole hut actually had only one room. With an old stove, a few cupboards, one old table placed by the window along with two chairs, a simple bed opposite the table, a chest of drawers and a shelf filled with books above the chest of drawers, nothing else was to be found in here. A small curtain separated a metal tub from the rest of the room.

Opal hung her coat at a peg next to the door and took off her shoes. She had enough water. The Omega poured the two buckets into the tub and added the boiling water from two pots. The bath temperature was all right. After adding some herbs a nice fragrance spread across the room. Opal took off her clothes and slipped in. This feeling was just one of a kind. The warm water and herb's fragrance were just enough for all the tension accumulated in her body to let go. She plunged into the water and let her long silver, almost white hair get wet. The enjoyment couldn't last long, after w while water was getting colder and Opal knew it was time to get out of the tub. She dried herself with a thin worn towel. Being naked she could clearly see all those little scratches, bruises and scars. The biggest one was on her left forearm reminding her of the accident in the woods two years ago.

Opal was seventeen years old and she lived alone in an old hut only a few steps from the wood. Her parents were considered traitors of the pack and eliminated by the order of the almighty Alpha. Opal was seven then, she was left with her old grandma who was half blind and had problems with walking. Her family was stripped of all dignity and possession. However due to Alpha's generosity she could stay on the pack grounds and live in this hut, which was only about two kilometers from the city. Grandma died three years ago. Opal buried her behind the hut and planted a rose bush on granny's grave. There was no great funeral ceremony, nobody came to express condolences. Just Opal.

Life was hard, there was no running water, no electricity and the toilet was outside. On the other hand, she had a roof above her head, a place to sleep and fire to keep her warm. Opal mastered her life as best as she could. In a small garden next to the hut she planted vegetables, collected berries and mushrooms from the forest as well as went hunting. She was a good hunter, she had to be otherwise she would be starving. She knew the feeling of hunger and wasn't willing to experience it ever again.

Opal wrapped herself in a furry blanket, her day was over. Tomorrow she will have to face her absolute nightmare – school. It's not that she was stupid and unable to learn, it was all about the classmates. No, actually the whole student's pack of this school. They knew who she was. An outcast, with no rights, child of traitors, fucking freak. She could live with that. She didn't feel the need to socialize with them anymore. It's just that there were many bullies, and sometimes they beat her really badly adding some new scars to the picture. She had no back up, neither teachers nor parents or any adult to stand for her.

There was a time when she was skipping lessons, trying to avoid the school burden. Her grandma learned about this and asked her about the reason for playing truant. Opal told her everything about the bullies and stupid pranks they made." Opal, she said back then, you can't control other people, but you can control your own actions. What makes you scared? How can you face your problem? What can you do to solve it? If you answer all those questions it might not stop them but you will be prepared for whatever happens and ready to deal with your fears." So years later she was. Dressed in a school uniform, warm coat and equipped with a school bag, she left her home.
