She slowly took her seat which was close to the head of the table. Skye took his seat beside her and Zarin sat across the table, directly opposite her.
Now that they were all seated and all the dishes were served, they all remained unmoved until Jedrek joined them and sat at the head of the table.
He took a side glance at Raine, watching as her head lowered with each passing second. Raine felt his deep gaze on her and she gulped hard.
Oh God!! She wasn't this nervous when confronting his actions earlier on then why now? Maybe it was because she felt that she was now in his territory and she couldn't do anything wrong to offend him.
The whole table fell into a state of utter quietness until Skye broke the stillness of the atmosphere with his amused tone.
"Cute sister, have something. Brother made them prepare a feast just for your arrival."
Hearing Skye's remark, she slowly raised her head and looked at all the food prepared on the table. It really looked like a feast. Did he really prepare all these just for her arrival? She didn't expect him to be this considerate towards her.
She turned her head and peeked at Jedrek. He returned her stare with an expressionless gaze and casually picked up a shrimp and peeled it.
Raine found his actions natural yet appealing. She was about to return her gaze and pick up a pice of beef when all of a sudden he placed the peeled shrimp on her plate.
Raine gulped, staring nervously at the single shrimp on her plate and her heart started pounding like the bass of a rap song.
The whole table fell silent, even Zarin who didn't spare her a glance before paused his eating and gave her an unreadable gaze.
Feeling the flesh tearing gazes on her, with shaken hands and an ashen face, Raine slowly picked up her chopsticks.
"Why are you hesitating to eat up the shrimp? Do you think I have the intention of poisoning you?"
Hearing Jedrek's question directed at her, she slowly raise her head and gave him a slight glimpse. Jedrek raised a brow at her somewhat hesitant expression and Raine returned her head back to the shrimp.
Even though his tone was clear, she could still sense a hint of amusement in them but she shrugged off the thought and focused on the bigger problem in front of her.
She slowly picked up the shrimp from the plate and was about to place it in her mouth when all of a sudden the chopsticks was knocked off from her hand and it landed on the floor with a crack sound.
Raine opened her eyes which she didn't realize that she had closed and carefully peeked at Jedrek who now had a dark expression written all over his face.
She discarded her arousing fear and frowned in confusion. Why was he angry this time? She was about to eat the shrimp when he knocked it off then why?...
Jedrek glared at the little timid girl in front of him. His thoughts were deeply hidden in his misty grey eyes but the anger in them was eminent. He turned his head from her from fear that she would feel even more intimidated by his presence.
He let out a deep sigh which could be considered as a helpless one.
"Raine, will anyone kill you if you talk?" Anyone listening to his voice now would notice the deep restraint he had on it as if fear of snapping any moment but it didn't hide the coldness in them.
When he felt that he had finally calmed down, he turned towards her and gave her a questioning gaze.
Raine stared at him in confusion for a while before she shook her head in answer to his question.
"Then why did you agree on eating the shrimp despite being aware that you are allergic to seafood?"
Raine's eyes widened in astonishment. 'How did he know?... '
"What are you scared of Raine? Did I threaten you? Did I beat you up?..." do you take me for a monster?...
He said that last part in his mind but just the thought of it sent gloomy clouds towards his chest and his eyes dimmed.
